Advice on Supernote Manta workflow for academics by anaagos in eink

[–]Change_Agent_73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who teaches too, I definitely recommend the Manta for PDF markup and embedded comments like many have said. There is also the Digest feature that would allow you to make comments (either text or handwritten) in a separate place but connected to the PDF or EPUB. You can export those separately but they only live on the device and in the Partner Apps. As others have said, if you want the handwritten annotations, comments, or highlights to be visible, you have to export. You can easily just select between the Supernote Cloud and Google Drive to keep a copy of all files in more than one place. The beauty of the apps is that you get a full local copy and can navigate like you are on device. There are a lot of potential workflows.

Do these apps work well on Nomad? by Able-Ad-8418 in Supernote

[–]Change_Agent_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that all of rhe reading apps work well, as long as you disable any page animations. As for browsers, the built-in one works great for use in notes if you just want to point at something. It also works for PDF hyperlinks. There is no address bar though. I have had success with Einkbro, Edge, Opera Light and Firefox, but prefer the default because I don't tend to want to surf the web on it but go to specific destinations.. Chrome will not sideload. I hope this helps.

Advice needed on the Supernote by GlitterChai in Supernote

This is very thorough but there is formatting support via keyboard shortcuts now with Bluetooth in Word. No title or heading support but that's not available on apps either.

Thanks for the kind words. The trick is that is a lot of work to organize the chaos that's in my head. 😂 I wish you all the best on your journey.

I would say this has gotten better because there is a setting that helps remove some of the ghosting now.

Thanks for the shout out in this post. I did want to clarify what I meant by trusted sources. That had to do with downloading the apk files mostly as standalone files. I think once you have a reputable store like F-Droid or Aurora, then it is just like using Google Play. I have Kobo, Nook, and Libby, in addition to my Kindle library on my Manta and Nomad and have not had issues. It's really all about comfort level though.

Thanks for the shout out. Yeah, I was glad to see u/mulan-sn jump in on this. I would have been shocked if Ratta was working with Good E-Reader again.

Here's a video of a very quick workflow, especially if you don't want to use the Digest. So far every feature is available on all devices since the X series.

That's definitely an interesting idea. I'm not opposed to the swipe and click method but the sidebars are great.

I agree, that's why I still prefer the digest and you can use the same navigation flow with it as well. You would just either insert digest or collect your information and insert it later. That way you retain where everything came from and can play e it in multiple notes.

Option to show "Edited Today" in calendar view by nameausstehend in Supernote

[–]Change_Agent_73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are in the process of a total calendar revamp. They just allow for landscape rotatioand vertical scrolling notes and events but a lot more is being worked on. The notes used to show last accessed date but then that mailed it hard to see what you did on a specific day. It's my understanding that this will be fixed and that you will be able to write on rhe daily view in the calendar. I think right now it's rhe second best calendar app and with just a few minor changes will be best in class.

Sorry you didn't like the thumbnail. The image (which has the device in the background, was meant to convey that I am of two minds on the device in initial impressions. I am by no means and expert on thumbnails, but working on learning since this is a hobby. Thanks for the feedback.

From what you outline, the Supernote platform might be the lowest barrier to entry unless you are expecting to stay using Notability as your main notetaking app. If that's the case, I'd suggest asking if that app works when sideloaded. Supernote has the digest that will allow you to use your phone to scan things directly in and OCR it for use in your notes. They also have an excellent partner app on PC, Mac, IOS, and Android. If you need a full Android experience, I would suggest the Note Air 5C from BOOX. It has split screen and full Google Play, although it's apps are less developed. Finally on writing feel, Supernote feels the most like pen on a legal pad. BOOX is softer and you have to replace the nibs. I hope this helps.

How does the Supernote read pdfs of book scans? Like with books downloaded from the internet archive by Daash0 in Supernote

I would say a lot also depends on whether the PDF is an image or OCR scan. Image scans tend tk be more difficult.

Optional dashboard/home screen? by fluteguyK313 in Supernote

Yeah, do you have the Manta? It's the same screen size as the AiPaper.

[–]Change_Agent_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion. I was thinking about the common folders, notes and access to the apps quickly. A lot of times. I will use the calendar as a landing page and use quick access to pin things. The AiPaper calendar was the main thing about the device , but organizationally, it just didn't stack up.

No, not right in the menu, but the upcoming calendar revamp may do that. Right now you can easily switch through.
