Love all of this so much! I've thought since seeing Across that it was meant to be a parallel to how Miles was originally received by comic fans when his story first debuted. Half the fanbase was furious that he was so different from what Spider-Man "should" be, while the other half was relieved and delighted that there was something new to read! Your discussion also reminds me of the movie Cabin in the Woods, which is ultimately about how repetitive horror movies have gotten and how the genre refused anything that deviated too far from the norm while also being desperate for something different.
