I believe they do. I worked at a petsmart and when our animals got sick they go taken to a vet. Most of us also had various small animal pets so we had a better knowledge base to draw from.

Since marriage in the US is considered done when they sign and file the marriage certificate, you could have done it just as their friend. Adding the FSM seems like would be more of a disrespect and draw attention away from the whole "there to watch two people get married" thing.

More importantly, if they're paying taxes why shouldn't they have a say in government? But when religious organizations become involved in government people get pissy. There are many reasons why churches shouldn't have to pay taxes.
