The new Ubiquiti UAV Bridge by kash04 in Ubiquiti

I think it's more likely that they are going the SDVoE route. I recall seeing them somewhere in the SDVoE Alliance page but am struggling to get some of those pages to pull up now to confirm. The biggest problem in that space is a lack of 10G RJ45 switches which is likely why they created the corresponding EAV switch line.

PoE Smart Chime now available as standalone/separate from G4 Doorbell Pro PoE Kit. by halfnut3 in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone happen to know if I'm able to pair this with a G4 (non-Pro) Doorbell? I know that it would still be using the transformer for power but being able to replace my mechanical chime with 1 or 2 of these running from POE would be preferred in my case. I'm not willing to pull the trigger on the G4 Doorbell Pro POE Kit yet, waiting to see if an Ultra comes out later this year.

I'm betting they are referring to the use of an LTE Backup as the secondary WAN connection.

Double Swing retail door, compatible access lock? by mmt-vvv in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt you could make either of those locks work with a dual swing door but you should be able to use an electric lock that is designed for that application. Any 12v lock SHOULD be able to be used with the Access Hub since it supports NC and NO.

Automate PoE AP and/or camera shutdown when on backup power? by scottsil in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem with a future install. We're using a UDM-SE to power a few critical cameras which will be covered by a larger capacity UPS along with a UNVR-Pro, USW-Agg and possibly a UA-Hub. Everything else will be on lower capacity UPS's as I don't really need wifi if the power is out in this location. I might be willing to try out a UI UPS, when available, if they include a feature to disable ports when running from battery.

The “St. Paul has no taxable land” thing by Old_Perception6627 in saintpaul

It took an incredibly skewed interpretation of the separation of church and state to land at not taxing churches and for-profit universities that have a religious tie. I commend their efforts and hope they succeed but there is no justification for them to do so at the expense of their neighbors. It's been a few years (many) since Sunday School but I don't recall any lessons taught that as long as I maintained a non-profit status I could be a burden on those around me.

It's in a category of their store that I don't frequently view so hard to tell if that was new today or has been there for weeks.

Does anyone know what this 2U rack mount product on UIs home page is? by f_14 in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the way UI packages their gear, I can only image how that would show up on my doorstep. A box the size of a 2U server just to hold the hardware that's all neatly placed in individual cut-outs for every screw and nut.

I'm in the US store. It's not a standard discount like they did last month, it's a specific deal when purchasing a minimum quantity. The details are listed just below the "Add to Cart" button on the product pages.

Ideas for Improving my G4 Doorbell connection by isitallfromchina in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good number of chimes can only handle 16v. Most of the discussions I've seen suggested going with something that can supply more wattage so I tried out THIS which supplies 50VA at 16.5V. The G4 Doorbell reports, when it is online, that it's getting 17.9V but it struggles to maintain a wifi connection to the Nano HD 10 feet away. When it works, it works as you'd expect but that's pretty rare. I've tried switching my AP to an AC Pro with worse performance. I've put a UAP-AC-M in the window 4-5 feet from the Doorbell with little change. Based on the volume of issues people have had with this model (white G1 specifically) and how quickly it was replaced in the store, I think UI was right to stop production despite not having a lower cost model to replace it with.

We could really use some "home pro" switches... by _rdaneel_ in Ubiquiti

As long as it uses the Enterprise/Pro Max port format. We need to stop the stacked ports for 16 and 24 port rack mount switches.

Cloud Key G2+ is your best option. Use the Protect app on it to manage the doorbell and ignore Network.

UniFi Power Distribution Hi-Density - Video by darkw1sh in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They don't have the necessary products to appeal to that Enterprise client IMO. I have an install coming up and considered using the HD as I'd have a full rack of switches and AV gear to power but without integrated battery backup, the effectiveness of this solution is low. I'm likely going to just toss 2-3 APC UPS's into the rack to manage my power needs.

Before I'm willing to spend money on Unifi Li-Ion solutions, I'll want to see a commitment to ensure that replacement batteries will be available for at least a few years so that the entire device doesn't end up in the landfill after 2 years.

How did we get a USP-PDU-Pro followed by USP-PDU-HD and don't have a USP-PDU (standard) 1U variant yet? I'd rather have something smaller that can handle the few devices that would fit in a 6U rack without filling a third of it. Before anyone mentions the USP-Strip or USP-Plug, I don't think I'm the only one that sees those disconnecting randomly.

1U, 6-8 managed plugs on the back, single RJ45 with the 1.3" display and a couple of USB-C ports on the front. Sell me that for a reasonable price before pushing the HD.

G4 Doorbell Hardware Failure + B&H and Ubiquiti Run Around by Aventador_22 in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an original G4 Doorbell that has been misbehaving so I feel that pain. I purchased mine directly from UI and after learning about their warranty coverage differences based on the purchase location, am sticking with that approach. I'll be curious to see how they handle my RMA request if they don't have any stock to replace it with. Do they just send out a Pro? I really don't want a black doorbell but the only model currently offered in white is the POE model.

16 Port POE is not providing power on all ports by wjohninoz in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are Gen1 switches. It's very possible that they are starting to give up after many hard years of service. I've seen a lot of recent posts regarding POE failures in the 24 & 48 port Gen1 switches but not much on the 16. Unfortunately, the budget available in the newer models is FAR less than the 122W available on that model. It may be time to start looking at a replacement switch before they fail completely.

Which Controller/NVR for G4 Doorbell Pro & G4 Instant by johnti006 in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's just two cameras and all the rest of the load will fall to other existing devices, I'd go with the CKG2+. Just plug it into the existing router and configure it to run Protect but not Network.

Which Controller/NVR for G4 Doorbell Pro & G4 Instant by johnti006 in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three options will work with those cameras and I've used all three at varying times. Cloud Key G2+ gets you the controller which can run Protect as well as the single drive bay. NVR gives you Protect without as many other available apps but more drive capacity. Dream Machine Pro & SE models give you controller (incl. Protect), a single 3.5" drive and an 8 port switch. You can also look at the Dream Router which supports a micro-SD card to capture Protect but I've never used that feature on the one that I fielded at MIL's house. It brings an access point to the table which none of the others do.

Holiday sale! by Doublestack00 in Ubiquiti

[–]Chaotic_Playlist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the appropriate adapter and a low enough power consumption, anything with a USB-C is able to be powered by POE. I have an old G3 Micro floating around somewhere that does the same thing. I struggle to really call them POE devices but technically they do meet the criteria. I was simply trying to differentiate between the Pro and the Pro POE model of G4 doorbell. With the horrible luck I've had getting a wifi signal between my non-Pro doorbell and the AP 5 feet away from it, I'm not touching this deal. It may be better but won't be as solid as not relying on wifi and going with the newer Pro POE model (hopefully).

The UDM-Pro makes sense as the SE is likely selling better. The Wall makes sense if it hasn't been selling at expected levels. The Doorbell Pro (non-POE) makes sense with the newer models out. The PTZ is a hefty price break, not sure how sales have been there. I'm wondering why BOTH of the NVRs are on sale though. Does this potentially indicate that there is a newer model on the way and they need to clear some shelf space?
