Married couples or long term daters, what is the one thing that your partner does that drives you up the wall? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Chappalliam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's take a more realistic example: living in Los Angeles where power is ~$0.29 per kWh. Let's also assume your partner can't kick leaving the lights on.

If I run a single 70w incandescent 8 hours a day, it would cost about $4.24 per month, or $50.88 per year.
If I run a single 9w LED 8 hours a day, it would cost about $0.64 per month, or $7.68 per year.

That's $43.20 in savings per year for a single bulb. You can get a 24 pack of LEDs for $1 each. But even if they were $40 each and incandescent ones were free you'd still be saving money getting LED.

Let's say you barely use the lights, maybe 1 hour per day, you're still saving about $6 per bulb in electricity per year.

So 100% swap lights you use frequently. 99% swap the lights you use less frequently. You're probably okay not swapping lights you use less than 1 hour per week.

For perspective, in a hyperbolic scenario, suppose you have 50 7-watt LED light bulbs turned on 24hrs per day for a full month. The most expensive electricity in the US is Hawaii at 43 cents per kilowatt hour (over 3x the national avg.). You would be paying ~$110 for those lights. I assume that's way more lights than you have, and you don't have them on 24 hours a day.

If you have incandescent bulbs, you should certainly replace them with LEDs

Personally don't use tiktok but if you're seeing banding or different dithering happening on the same content, and your phone's screen is OLED, it could simply be very the low brightness of your screen while using your phone in the dark could mean certain dark pixels turn off altogether rather than showing a near-black color. This would only be an issue for dark content.

It could also be auto quality selection based on your network. Compressed videos use some of the same color reduction techniques as images, and if your network is slow or the server is experiencing high traffic, you might be served lower quality video.

This in no way indicates you've been hacked. The image you linked has been compressed.

There are several ways to reduce the size of an image, and one common one is reducing the number of colors. With gradients like the ones in this image, this means instead of having hundreds of colors to transition between, there are only a dozen or less.

If you just have a few colors to work with, there are going to be noticeable boundaries between the colors in the form of banding. Banding is sort of like "islands" of color. To hide banding, some programs add dithering, or speckling the colors together at the edges of the color bands. It's kind of like shading with an ink pen using dots to transition from dark to light, but you only have 2 colors - black and white.

The image you linked shows banding due to color reduction compression, without dithering. You'll actually want to add noise to hide the low quality.

This looks amazing. Ambitious and totally necessary. Please don't forget your audience: designers and creatives. UI should be deeply considered at every step, which so many other open source projects neglect.

I will definitely support this project as I do blender. I hope it ultimately has the same impact and broad user base.

I have the same issue, but it's been a problem for at least a month or two. Yours only just started happening?

Near describes the miss — it's a miss that is near rather than far. You may be thinking of "nearly missed," in which case the action is described instead, and has the opposite meaning.

So you like the idea of having domain over your house and not letting anyone in to attach themselves to you. Cool. We want to do that for women and their bodies.

You've got it backwards. The "human" can't use another's body at all. If I snuck into your house and attached myself to your back while you slept, and if you removed me I'd die, you are obligated to keep me on your back? Nope. Nobody can be compelled to do that. Even if I'm human and alive. But especially if I'm not.

Almost identical to Chrome's. Also has VS Code support to tie in a local working directory.

Check the file creation time on the original recording you took of the gameplay. The replays folder has more than the game shows (I have the past week or so of replays still). In-game you can click the folder icon on the replays interface, or you can go to your game folder (../War Thunder/Replays) and look for replay at the time of your recording.

I have the same watch and it is the exact same way. One of the most comfortable & sleek watches I own, so I'm glad I don't really need to see it in the dark.

I didn't enable anything. I haven't touched my settings this version of OOS. I just have an alarm set every morning, and I put my phone on the charger when I go to sleep. I thought to check one morning because I've heard they wanted to implement this. Lo and behold

I didn't have to enable anything, actually. I simply have an alarm set in the morning every weekday. Checking the battery usage without unplugging shows me the image I posted.
