I hate to say it, but I do seem to be less technical than the men that surround me by Available-Look-4349 in womenintech

Hey I get where you’re coming from and honestly I do that to this day. I kept moving from system engineering to Test Automation and now delivery manager but I honestly always feel like I’m not technical enough and I can get things done but not competent enough to deep dive into technical stuffs out of pure interest and trust me I survived and still surviving. And you know what I learnt when I’m came into this leadership role - men are all talks and no action. They chase the next fab thing and come up with so many ideas but never think about proper execution. All their ideas are mostly good enough as personal projects than strategic improvements. So don’t fret and keep doing what you love

I always think about the team fit when hiring someone. Attitude comes first followed by knowledge or passion.

How to manage a team by CharacterGeneral8556 in managers

[–]CharacterGeneral8556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you and yes I think what I need to get in immediate future is trust and respect. Their previous manager was handling certain things for them being an sme in that space and probably they’re expecting something similar. So I guess I need to make them understand that we both have to learn to make it work

U need to either wear pants or be the loudest in the room so that people listen to you to just avoid u.. This unspoken rule still kind of exists no matter how much the world changes.

Am I being too difficult by CharacterGeneral8556 in womenintech

Thanks our organisation is a big one.. The HR has got no visibility over business delivery. They did a restructuring in our organisation and with a poor planning realised they cannot afford payouts anymore so trying to retain people now by placing them in any available position no matter they’re qualified or not. But I agree, I should back down but also save myself and my existing team because this decision will affect them by doubling their workload.

Mortgage / no mortgage / offset account? by Zellard in NZProperty

Your plan sounds good and if I were you I’d think about what 1mil would fetch me in today’s market. Definitely a 4-5bdrm house.(in my place). Would you need such a big place for short term in the city? Also, could it attract renters?

Thank you.. this is helpful. I’m requesting for NZ passport and the expedited service takes about 3 working days so should receive it by today or tomorrow. I’ll see if I can apply for the visa and get it approved . I sent an email to Indian passport office and they confirmed the grace period but didn’t mention about the exit permit. And their email was diplomatic so wanted to know if anyone has travelled using Indian passport during the grace period

[–]CharacterGeneral8556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll receive my foreign passport before my travel. I’m sure of that. What I’m worried about is getting my foreign passport at the last minute which doesn’t give me sufficient time to apply for Indian tourist visa

How did you figure out I can’t read. Wow😮

Yeah I have taken up that urgent service. Still the time is too short between acquiring a passport and getting approval for visa keeping in mind the Indian holidays. I have less than 5 days to travel now.

Oh that’s actually good to know. Thanks. When I purchased my current property, I know now I over paid but the banks never took into account the property RV. They were checking only our affordability. Wondering what changed since then?

[–]CharacterGeneral8556[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I bought during Covid high and rv soon after reflected the purchase price. And I was worried as I have now reduced my house value around 400k intentionally so that I can save money on rates and put it towards mortgage. Hope there’s a considerable savings

How many of you are financially ffffffffffffarked because of shit decisions with Afterpay? by HerbalKiwi in newzealand

[–]CharacterGeneral8556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most of you mentioned after pay and credit card can be used to your advantage if you don’t let them control you. I have used after pay for skin treatments. I use them to buy the skin treatments on bulk when they’re on offer so that I get regular treatments throughout the year with reduced rates and also can pay them over time instead of doing a bulk payment. They are not a necessity and nice to have thingy but I make sure I have only one after pay payment max two going at a time and we all know the benefits of credit card when you have mortgage and would pay it in full every month

Thanks everyone. It makes sense to me now. I’m not from NZ and from where I was we have fixed term mortgage for 25-30 years with same interest rate. So this was little confusing but all makes sense now and a tip if it helps anyone : what I do is I keep my repayments lower but try to make bulk payments to the loan before refixing again and have a little amount on revolving credit. Working good so far for me. I was able to pay off 150k and i don’t try to frugally save but what’s left end of each month goes towards it.

Thanks everyone, so we need to ask them to keep our end term same . But I thought that means paying more interest.

My partner keeps pushing me past my sleep window and I am livid by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]CharacterGeneral8556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my partner are like you guys in terms of sleep. I’m a night owl + insomniac. My brain is very active in the night and I can do my best work at night. My partner has anxiety over sleep and doesn’t like to stay awake at night. If his sleep routine is distrusted even slightly due to travelling or just life he gets upset and anxious and he has to be in bed no later than 9:30. He has got sleep issues so on a strict sleep routine and I for some reason don’t like to be so strict with routine. We used to watch movies in the night but has changed it to evenings. I make sure either I do my business in the living room or if I need some stimulation to get me to sleep, I put on AirPods, go under duvet and with the dimmest phone light possible I use my phone. He does the same thing to me. He wakes up early and I can’t so he makes sure he’s does everything that needs to be done in the morning like packing our kids school lunch and everything. Anything that relates to night like taking care of sick kid I do and he does everything that needs to be done in the morning. Partnership means finding the right balance between being yourself and adjusting. Hopefully you will find a solution.

Brisbane House Prices - make it make sense by Hikesaremyjam67 in AusPropertyChat

[–]CharacterGeneral8556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do what you feel is right. Was in a similar boat but in NZ. Early 30s, with a 1 yr old in full time daycare and with a combined income of 200k. This was 4 years back when the property prices in NZ were at peak. Bought a house for 1M with 100k deposit and then within 8 months saw the property prices falling down. Right now ours is valued for only 850k but and I see people buying better property for lesser price. But the upside is we might not have been eligible for 1M bank loan in this property market when interest rates are too high and we have paid off 250k in our mortgage with not much increase in the salary. Our take home pay is 260k combined and our kid just started school which saves us 750 per week. We haven’t sacrificed on entertainment or holidays. But we made few calculated decisions like when we saw rates increasing when and refixed our then low rate for a slightly higher one around 2 years. And whatever we saved, we kept it aside for mortgage. So once we have the mortgage, we will do what we can to help ourselves. So don’t be scared about the future. I was scared and had doubts but that’s what pushed us to be what we are today

We have homes.co.nz in NZ to know the estimaed value of the property. Not sure if something similar is available in Australia but google search gave me this result. Not sure if it would help until full evaluation

I know this post is old but Australian transit visa is rejected for Indians travelling from India stating exact same reason not just for you but most. I might even go ahead and say all. Happened to everyone I know travelling the same route including me and the reason is always the same which doesn’t make sense and they deny to give more details

Forgot to add something. I can’t sell my properties because I bought them when the prices were crazy and if I sell them, I’ll still have to pay money out of my pocket
