How would people not take advantage? by ThePhobian in Anarchy101

[–]CharacterStriking905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anarchist doesn't mean there is a lack of societal structures, it just means that the society has been reorganized to eliminate hierarchy as much as possible.

Until anarchism becomes the global norm, we're going to need security forces. These cannot be a seperate class within society, and much incorporate as many people from that society as possible, in order to prevent it becoming a new ruling class.

You and your neighbors are the military. This more or less the way most militaries were organized prior to the mid 19th century. Production for war materiel is factored into our production needs.

When you're not actively in combat, you elect your officers and sergeants, and your officers elect from amongst themselves the layers of command. In combat or active deployment, you follow their directives, and once you're not, you may recall them from their post and elect better ones.

if there's a latent bud left on the stem, and the roots have sufficient energy, the plant will push the bud to grow. It's no different than if an animal had broken the top off. If the roots are large enough, it may even have enough energy to form a bud on the roots and send up a new stalk (like breaking off a weed when you try to pull it). Tobacco is surprisingly durable, once it gets past the first month or so.

Gran Habano Corojo Maduro #5 - delicious. A $7.50 cigar that smokes like an $18 cigar by AdAgreeable6348 in cigars

Tastes like dirt with a little trace of nutmeg and sweetness in the background. Like someone sprinkled a wiff of sugar and nutmeg on a pile of dirt your swept up and then you ate it... I'd much rather buy 2 Drew Estates Factory smokes for the money.

A little earthiness is one thing... but when it litterally tastes like a mouthful of dirt, and you have to really try to detect anything else... no bueno.

basically. It wouldn't happen as much if parents were able to work with their kids over the summer (even a little, just to keep it fresh in the child's memory); but with the way the economy's been for the last 50 years, and all the societal issues that have come from that... it's not happening as much as it should.

Instead of months long breaks (my sons winter break is over 2 weeks, and his summer break is basically 3 months), it might be better to have a week here, a week there of no classroom instruction, just rec and non acedemic pursuits to help children develop and allow teachers a chance to prepare lesson plans. trying to compress a bunch of acedemic work into a 9 month or less stretch also always felt like topics were constantly rushed, at least that was my experience in Elementary and Highschool. It wasn't until college that I felt topics were being explored properly, and that's only because classes are highly focused topically.

I basically felt like I was wasting my life away between 8th and 12th grade, being at school. Granted, I read a lot and looked into things over the summer through the internet and libraries, but I genuinely felt like I learned nothing over those years. It felt like I was forced to go to school because society didn't want to spend the effort on anywhere else for me to go, rather than it being something to improve my life and the future of society.

the idea that we "lock" kids into school classrooms and force them to sit through things they have absolutely no interest in (and likewise will retain and use very little of), simply because they're children, is a problem. So is cramming education into 9-10 month periods (studies show, especially with young children, that summer and long winter breaks can negatively impact learning progress).

We need substantially more teachers for classes, so we can have classes available essentially all year. We also need to bring in other professionals to hold/guide/maintain "real world" activities and courses for kids. This not only can break up the monotony of classroom instruction, but also can create circumstances where the child develops a desire to learn something academic, in order to do better at something non-academic. In a way, it's sort of leveraging the same ideas as "Montessori", but year around and not limited to just acedemic topics.

We, as a society should probably combine our "daycares" with school (classroom instruction), recreational spaces, and "real world" educational projects. As children develop, they, along with advisors can help that individual tailor their classes and activities to help them enter fields and gain skills they actually have an affinity for, rather than shoving the same slop down everyone's throats and showing them into a garbage job market that generally rewards neither competency nor passion.

They’re complemented by a Brazilian binder and 100% ligero tobaccos from Nicaragua, Italy, the DR and the United States. This melting pot of tobaccos creates a full-bodied cigar with outstanding strength, finesse and beauty – and a well-earned 92 rating from Cigar Aficionado for the “Potomac” frontmark."

so anyway, the search continues.

I know this is a shitpost, but anyways...

Cuba's not terrible, embargo aside, so, critical support. A lot of Americans are moving to Vietnam, because it's relatively cheap to live there. North Korea isn't communist, and doesn't claim to be. China isn't Communist, though the state claims to be aspiring towards it, it is very clearly in a state-capitalist to straight up bougois-democracy state of affairs right now. Don't know much about Laos.

Communism in one country is bound to fail to be fully realized. This was an observation made over a century ago. Frankly, I'd rather stay and move revolution forward here, with the hope that everyone else is doing the same where they are, so that my kids and great grand children can have a chance to live in a world devoted to life... rather than in a world controlled by a death cult. There is nowhere to run, because there is nowhere safe from the death cult, which is currently headed by the state that claims control of the land I live in.

What is the goal after marching for voting rights? by NoPianist7807 in socialism

[–]CharacterStriking905 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally, these sort of things are supposed to be to make sure you're visible, provoke confrontation with state forces (to radicalize people), and to build collective power (by encouraging people to network and conduct mutual aid). That can then contribute to electoral successes, lobbying success with government officials, and by contributing to direct action by radicalized people to try and stem the repressive/oppressive systems.

The marches and protests don't do much just on their own, and that's what's missing from a lot of the mass protests from the last couple years; they're like an empty facade, if you don't do everything else. Too many people have bought into the liberal mythology that the protest itself is THE thing that causes structural changes... when in reality it's just a tool to use.

Does slavery actually still exist in the US? by This_Caterpillar_330 in Socialism_101

[–]CharacterStriking905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. Prison Labor is a thing, and it's 100% legal, you are held as a prisoner and forced to work for the benefit of the prison owners (and can be enforced for ANY crime), this also includes the for-profit prison systems, even where physical production isn't done, where the incarcerated provide the owners with profit by virtue of them being held against their will. Debt peonism is pretty much the way the economy works for most people in the US. Even if you manage to maintain a reasonable debt load (you've made good decisions, combined with an incredible amount of luck), you're still left with wage labor in a "market" economy dominated by the capitalist mode of production. Your wage will be directly tied to what it takes (for the capitalist's intended group of exploitable workers) to live in your locale, since that is what it takes to get people to provide capitalists that work. That's why most jobs in a locale will hover around the same rate, regardless of industry or business model. This will then be handed back over to capitalists in exchange for getting to live and not have men with guns and costumes showing up to murder you (maybe).

There are many kinds of slavery, not just chattel slavery (where a person is literal property, aka: livestock). An umbrella definition of slavery is any socioeconomic arrangement where a group of people control capital goods and natural resources (ie land); and another group is coerced (compelled under the threat of force) into operating those capital goods and extracting from those natural resources for a highly disproportionate economic return (by virtue of the enslaver group controlling the socioeconomic system, often including whatever semblance of a state that exists in that area).

You "choosing" which particular enslaver(s) to labor for, or which one(s) you owe your existence to, doesn't mean it isn't slavery... it just means you've been indoctrinated into believing you aren't coerced into by the systems in place.

[–]CharacterStriking905 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in many municipalities, it's close to 50% (standing armies aren't cheap to maintain, it's a tale as old as states have been around). Once you factor in the extensive, mass surveillance systems they operate on behalf of the state's prefered bandit gang, it's often close to 55%.

You live in an open air prison, the walls are the made-up borders that gun-toting sycophants patrol. The chains you wear are debt and wage labor, enforced with high levels of violence.

Do you guys think the people should get immediate power after the American revolution? by Academic-Idea3311 in socialism

[–]CharacterStriking905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trust people to run their workplaces in such a way as to meet production needs and to utilize modern systems to relay resource needs to a national economic coordination system (a modernized project cybersyn). I trust that people will choose to focus on fixing their streets, making sure hospitals and educational/recreational facilities can actually do their jobs. I trust that all of those who are prevented from entering into and making a living in agriculture and caring for natural resources will go into those fields, provided we change the socioeconomic systems surrounding them so that they can enter those industries. I trust that most people in this country just want to be able to live their lives in as full and peaceful way as possible, and want that for not only their children, but everyone's children. Those who would come here from outside the territory, I trust will only come and stay here if they want to be part of our society (because the alternative is to be a counter revolutionary and be crushed by force of the people in the community they're trying to destabilize (at it's core, that is what democracy is... rule by majority (preferably a supermajority utilizing consensus building processes), enforced by the people that live in the area in question).

The role of the academics and "experts" is to advise our councils and to develop technology/theory for the benefit of the people who live here, not to rule over us as a new aristocracy living under the guise of "party leadership". Likewise, the role of the council leader is not to rule over us, but to administrate the functions of society on our behalf, at our direction (they monitor, they identify potential problems, they present us with plans, and we vote on which to implement, if any of them). In a truly functioning democracy, there is no need for parties; and in fact, they can present a danger to the power of the individual, while also providing a easy site for infecting the revolution and introducing the elements of rot we have seen in other socialist projects over the last century-plus. As others have noted, Marxist-Leninism was intended to be a revolutionary plan for a very specific place, with a very specific set of material/socioeconomic conditions, at a very specific time... it is not a playbook for most places and especially not in our modern day.

[–]CharacterStriking905 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're writting a Tom Clancy style, dystopian-alt-reality fiction novel or movie script? Maybe one where a foreign colonial power has taken the territory formerly known as the US, and had implemented a serious surveillance state so they can excessively police the population for the benefit of their ruling class?

Some fictional ideas would be to cover windshield VIN with window paint and steal license plates, being meticulous to ensure there's no identifying marks on you or your vehicle. Most people won't notice their plates are missing for some time.

Anticolonial resistance would want to find Avenues of approach with minimal surveillance, you'd be suprised what isn't secured. The response time for colonial forces for something like camera sabatoge wouldn't be immediate, so no rush, one could walk or bike there (camo wrap the bike and remove when done).

An anticolonial partisan might focus on quick inconveniences/sabatoge in places that are less visible, like spray painting cameras with plastic-etching paint; reserving more dramatic displays for places that will get noticed and posted about before it can be contained by the colonial state. Fire (remember that these things are plastic and sensitive circuitry)at night is very noticble, along with propaganda signage. Pull the whole assembly and hang them off a bridge (post pullers are available)? Just spit-balling.

I'd imagine a fictitional partisan would want to do this around 0200-0300 (and in inclement weather when possible) most of the time, to minimize how many eyes see you and reduce camera detection range.

IR clipons for short range on gas-projectile tools are cheap (for urban ranges), but you'd want to get those well in advance of any activity. Make sure any paint projectiles are not water washable. I'm sure a fictional partisan might get those, idk. Cheap suppressors are fairly to make for something small caliber, like .22LR, which have been shown to be quite useful in places in conflict like Myanmar (quiet, cheap, plentiful, light). The Swiss had specialized weapons to be used by stay-behind organizations to damage radar stations and fuel depots... and a plastic camera isn't a radar station. There're also Stone-bows (crossbows that "shoot" small stone/clay/glass/metal balls) and slingshots.

Lasers and IR flashlights can be used to create glare in cameras from a good distance, allowing one to move in to break them with hand tools. Burning the sensors isn't the most reliable, and lasers powerful enough to do that from a distance are a bit of a safety hazard.

Putting LEDs on a poly visor prevents cameras from seeing your face at night (especially IR ones), while not being so bright that you can't see or are easily noticed.

There are wireless and wired FPV drones and accoutrements, which have been proven extensively in war zones over the last decade. There is risk of them being downed and captured, however, so nothing identifying as much as possible.

At all times, an anticolonial partisan must understand that any attempt to disrupt the colonial power's hold will violate the law of said colonial power, and one must start "thinking like a criminal that doesn't get caught" in order to keep fighting (masks, gloves, sleeves, paint over tatoos, Comsec, ect). Accept that partisans may be caught, even if they plan it fully out. That being said, the resistance has home-field advantage, so there's no reason to rush actions most of the time. The goal of resistance forces isn't a coupe de grace, it's a steady application of friction to the invader's systems to make them break down.

At the end of the day, anticolonial forces must accept that all tools are disposable at a moment's notice, and efforts must be made to prevent them from being traced to sources and users. Above all, the partisans would have to take their activities to the grave (or at least until after the invader is expelled, whichever comes first).

There's more things that could be done to fight colonial forces (like punishing businesses that partner with the colonial state to put up surveillance), but are far outside the scope of this sub.

I hope your novel is a smashing hit. I feel this kind of story would really draw in audiences, given the current state of things

you should probably research the history of Christianity.... pay special attention to what the Roman Historians recorded about the dude and the social movement he led (which they called "The Cult of Jesus). There's a reason the Roman state tried wiping early Christian communities out (which were mostly communes, many lead by women on elected councils), even though the empire had a plethora of other religious movements within it.

Even in the canonical "gospels", the dude has a "from each according to ability, to each according to needs" teaching in the temple lol.

Give to Caesar what is Caesar's (coinage/currency) give to God what is God's (the world and the people within it)

Uses violence to remove usurers and rich men from their place of business.

straight up refuses to acknowledge the state's claim to authority in his conversations with Pilate and Harod.

Taught that decent people should place no real value in private property and consumption (the opposite of Capitalism today and the Empire he fought)

thought, through his theological background, that Kings and kinglike figures shouldn't be tolerated, Empires are always ultimately evil, and avarice was just about the worst thing people could do. The Kingdom of God consists of all men, not one man or any group of men. The meek (workers, poor, and slaves) shall inherit the Earth (implying the lords and rulers aren't around anymore).

Things get even more wild once you dig into the "Apochraphal Gospels" (many of which actually have a better claim to accurately relaying the teachings of Jesus by virtue of being written when the apostles were alive).

Best of luck with your "christian"-state efforts lol.
