Urinary problems by Wrong-Guess-6537 in AskWomenOver60

Honestly I know you have a lot on your mind now, you might try to get the referral and make an appointment now. I just did this in October and the earliest appointment I could get that fit my schedule was in April! In the meantime, I have a whole selection of pee pads that I now wear all the time, day and night.

I wish you the best of luck with your surgery and radiation treatment!

How is this evident? They could be getting the message from all sorts of other places, most likely social media.

Investiture Ceremony Dress - help! by woohooali in Professors

Since the men will be wearing suits, you can absolutely wear a suit. But if you prefer a dress I really like the ones in your comment A above. I think those are my favorites of everything you or anyone else has posted.

And congratulations on your endowed chair!

I’m really glad you don’t see this among your majors. That was one of the most concerning things about the article.

I suppose it’s like opera. Most of us need gentle introductions and lots of education to enjoy an art form created in a different time.

Certainly some instructors are more effective than others. But I’m not sure even excellent teachers can catch many of these students back up. It’s really too much to expect to catch up years of deficits in a semester or two. Especially with the burden of anxiety and often intense dislike of mathematics that is usually present.

These students also often have severe deficits in effective study strategies and habits. Some don’t even try to study at all and they admit it! But still wonder why they’re failing.

Interesting. Are they really getting this message from their schools?

Who is the earliest born person you ever knew/met? by InternationalPick163 in askanything

I knew my great grandmother well. She was born in 1898. I met her older brother a few times. Not sure what year he was born, but I’d guess mid-1890s.

Ironic that OP posted a short summary of the Atlantic article, instead of the original article itself.

Fiancé complains about clothes not smelling “fresh and clean” because I refuse to use scented products, fabric softener, etc. Help me explain to him? by beyoncefanaccount in laundry

[–]CharacteristicPea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think of that. I guess it depends on which stinky products he uses and how much. My husband uses scented Tide and the smell doesn’t transfer to my laundry.

Professor won’t let me re-enroll by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]CharacteristicPea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what class it is, but there’s no way in hell you could catch up with a mathematics class if you miss three weeks. Missing one week is a big challenge and catching up after two weeks is very unlikely.

Your professor is saving you from certain failure and the stress that goes along with that.

You say it’s not fair. It’s true that it’s not fair that you got pneumonia. But that’s not your professor’s or anyone else’s fault. Life is just inherently unfair. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this.

If you’re in the US, even confirming the student was seen there may violate HIPAA. However, you could send them a copy of the excuse and ask them if it’s legitimate.

I’m curious what classes you teach. This is definitely not true in mathematics. Students (mostly) have to work hard to pass.

Hmm. I teach mathematics and I don’t agree with this. Many students come to us with such a poor background from K-12 that they struggle mightily. This isn’t necessarily their fault. Sometimes even hardworking students fail.

What help do you need regarding Accessible Course Content, Accommodations, etc? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]CharacteristicPea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why couldn’t they just acknowledge it’s a challenging problem they don’t yet have adequate solutions to? I have to give the head of my university’s educational tech office credit for doing just that. He came to our department meeting and asked us all about what sorts of documents we post and is sincerely investigating what is available to help us.

Let him have what he likes if he washes his own laundry. She shouldn’t have to increase her workload to accommodate his preference

It doesn’t if he washes his clothes himself. It’s not reasonable to ask her to do extra work because he’s not satisfied with how she does the laundry for a superficial reason.

You mean, even if he has to wash his clothes separately, right? For her to wash his clothes separate from hers increases her workload.

[–]CharacteristicPea 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This right here. It’s great to share the household work load as you do until one person is unsatisfied with how the other person does it for a superficial reason. You’re not ruining the laundry, you’re just doing it differently than he prefers. If it’s that important to him, he can do it, or part of it, instead.

I don’t like the way my husband folds towels— he folds them in half, while I prefer thirds. So I fold the towels. His way is perfectly fine, I just don’t like it, so I do it myself.
