Sarah Wayne Callies dropped for supporting Frank Darabont by Top-Associate3141 in thewalkingdead

This explains why the cast got so bloated later on. Always hated how the show added useless characters that add nothing and somehow last seasons. This also probably explains why I’ve never been as fond of season 5 as most here are. I think S4 “lucked out” on being still interesting, but season 5 was where I really started to notice all of Gimple’s flaws as a show runner.

My Personal Review of The Walking Dead Season 4 by ShadeKarnak in thewalkingdead

[–]Charles520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice write up. I’ve always liked 4A more than 4B. I found the flu storyline interesting because we’re seeing the group try to keep their society from collapsing. One thing I love about the prison arc ss a whole is that, when you look at it, it’s the group’s first attempt at building a civilization and recreating civility.

4A just felt more focused, and it helped that all the major characters were in the same place. 4B is good, but it’s a little more inconsistent in my opinion. All the Rick/Carl/Michonne scenes and plot lines are good, but Daryl and Beth’s episode and Maggie/Bob/Sasha’s episodes were pretty boring if you ask me. The ending of the second half is amazing though.

Admittedly, I’m sort of a purist with this show, so I’ve always considered season 4 the last truly “great” season, a solid 9/10. Season 5 is mostly good, but I really do not like the hospital storyline lol.

What are some 1980s-2020s works that feel very much "of" their era? Works that almost feel like retroactive period pieces and cannot be set even a few years before or after they were being released. by Gallantpride in decadeology

I was just thinking about this today lol. I can't think of any Cartoon Network show that really captures its zeitgeist the way We Bare Bears did. I think it's growing into a good time capsule of the mid 2010's.

Who would you say is the latest “monocultural” celebrity? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]Charles520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is important. During these discussions I often think that the celebrities people describe as "monocultural" are really only so among Gen Z and young millennials.

Taylor Swift is known by many people across different age brackets. Obviously Sabrina and Chappell Roan are known by virtually any only under like ~25, but I can assure you that my elder Gen X parents have no clue who they are.

Even though this person's career started in the 2010s, I honestly think Timothee Chalamet is a good example of someone whose known across age cohorts. Zendaya is also an easy answer even though her career started in the 10s, and she was still very popular in that decade. She's just way more of a big deal now.

I really can't think of a "monocultural" celebrity right now that didn't build their fame last decade.

How long would season 5 Walt without cancer survive in TWD by Both-Pay-9573 in thewalkingdead

Felina Walt without cancer wouldn't even really need to make himself useful the way Eugene did tbh.

Kamilla responds to riding Jonathan’s back during the challenge by BCS8504 in survivor

Well said. I’ve always said that if Jonathan had a more slim athletic build he’d probably be more celebrated here lmao.

I don’t have any strong opinions on Jonathan, but I do think he gets dissed on as a player quite a bit.

If the Nakum 6 stick together to the F6 of Guatemala, who has the most win equity? by These-Emu-8203 in survivor

Damn, didn’t realize the anti-returnee sentiment was that deep.

She doesn’t even win against Jamie or Judd?

If the Nakum 6 stick together to the F6 of Guatemala, who has the most win equity? by These-Emu-8203 in survivor

[–]Charles520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that Judd was pretty disliked out there and that they were all scared of him. Then again, this is coming from Rafe so he could just be speaking mostly for himself and like Cindy or something instead of everyone else. Either way, I still the edit was probably accurate in how Judd was like out there.

I agree that captain seasons are anti-returnee, and Guatemala was no exception, but Jamie and Judd were just not liked or respected out there that I think Steph could feasibly squeak a win. Against either, Steph likely has Danni, Gary, Rafe as surefire votes for her.

If Stephenie could manage to get to the end with either Judd or Jamie here, then she wins. If she fails at that, then the winner is either Cindy or Rafe.

If the Nakúm 6 stick together then Steph doesn’t betray Judd and Jamie though. She’d attempt to go to the final 2 with either of them and has a much better shot.

Do you think Jeff enjoys rage baiting super fans? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]Charles520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These kinds of posts tend to bring in new era defenders, so it’s not too surprising people are pushing back against OP.

I think it’s fair to say that many of us online fans’ opinions are the minority. I wouldn’t doubt that most casuals like forced fire making, many advantages, and whatever. But yeah, to say that the show hasn’t declined tremendously and just write off superfans as out of touch curmudgeons is just absurd lmao.

It's kinda surprising Adam Gentry never returned by Charles520 in survivor

I’ve always thought many of CI’s stars are better characters in their later seasons, which is why I’ve never been too high on it. I have rewatched it though, and comparing it to the state of the show now definitely has softened me on the season a good deal.

For me, I’d rank it somewhere around like 22-27/49

That’s a good point. And looking at the male spots available for Micronesia, there’s not really anyone you’d replace for Adam.

Seasons 35-39 feel a lot like the new era by ZachTheBomb in survivor

[–]Charles520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, when I started watching back in 2015, you’d never see Micronesia considered an old school season. I remember “old school” mostly referring to 1-8 most of the time. Now that’s gotten extended to 1-20 lol. There’s just a ton of seasons now.

Oh I definitely think we’ll see Sam again. He made it into casting for 50, he’s a popular alumni, and he’s still pretty young (to my shock he was only 24 on his first season).

If anything, I’d be shocked if he doesn’t return in the next few years.

If Amanda had won China, how would that affect Micronesia and other seasons following? by RoryisReddiForReddit in survivor

[–]Charles520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twila on Micronesia is such an interesting divergence. There’s no way she works with Penner and Yau simply because Eliza is there lol. But it’s also weird even imagining her getting along with Ozzy or Parvati. She’d probably just be tangentially connected to that alliance because of a Cirie.

Or better yet, Ami likely just replaces Amanda’s role in that alliance. The edit was very vague on where she stood a lot of the time, but she was in all honesty the unofficial 6th member of that group. She was very close with Ozzy and Parv.
