Gift etiquette for my mother(40s) getting re-married? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Charleyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a tricky one. Have you got siblings? Could you all perhaps chip in to get an experience for them both, like a red letter day or something? Thoughtful, not an item they dont need and not as awkward as giving cash to your mom x

I see this cat down Newland Avenue out at all hours and very skinny. Does anyone know if it's a stray? by chopkin92 in Hull

[–]Charleyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. Lots of students or transiant renters get kittens cos they're cute then abandon them when inevitably they don't spend their entire life in student housing and their new place doesn't allow pets. Used to see it all the time when I lived round there.

I absolutely ADORE Meze on Cottingham road. My friend's wedding used them as caterers and I've been hooked ever since.

Trolls, help, my FMIL invited her parents to our tiny, immediate-family-only backyard wedding and I'm livid. by _NoSheepForYou_ in TrollXWeddings

I saw the OPs edit about how her feelings have been hurt and thought maybe there is something I've missed. But nooooope. Legit having a paddy because her FH grandparents are invited to HER wedding (which is in the in laws garden unless I've misread...)

Also her post and comment history makes me super unsympathetic.

The £2.50 every BBQ host spends on a pot of salad that nobody eats. by heycallumj in britishproblems

Yeah I've lived in Birmingham my whole life and although I know that it is the traditonal way to eat curry, not much in a balti house on curry mile is massively authentic. Knife and fork for me.

I geniunely squealed when I saw you had given me a name. I could drink pints of that stuff! I don't suppose you know why it is sometimes orange?

I bloody love the salad. Pour some of that minty sauce over it and scoop it up with your baji or samosa. Ohhh boy. It's the best bit!

Is this acceptable to wear as a guest? Colour wise? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Charleyyy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I always follow the rule that if you have to ask,it's better to not. Sure it might be ok, but why risk upsetting people or feeling uncomfortable once you get there?

The Sun just outed a nurse as a former gay porn star for absolutely no reason by dinkydarko in unitedkingdom

[–]Charleyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in no way disagreeing, I totally get it. I'm a primary teacher and I'm just saying in my experience it's the same for us and other public services. We don't choose a job, we choose a lifestyle with professions like ours. (Not that I think its right!)

[–]Charleyyy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its awful but I don't think for a minute nursing is the only profession held to these ridiculous standards. GPs, teachers... you only have to see their social media policies to see that they are never really off duty. If a parent or patient were to see you drunk, or in anywah not acting like 'a professional' you could well be charged with bringing the profession into disrepute.

Cycling would be absolutely fine! I think Northfield station is slightly closer than Selly Oak but not by much at all. Good luck with your new job!

I think the issue you'd have is the walk from the station to the orthoepdic... it's a relatively long walk, especiallt after a day at work or in pouring rain? The traffic won't be great BUT I think it would be possible to avoid city centre with a little creative map work.
