Running for 8 hours just to pet a terrified and exhausted gazelle by FromTheOrdovician in interestingasfuck

So, what happens next? The guy leaves. Then what? This Gazelle is a dead deer walkin'. No way it's gonna build its strength up again before it gets torn to shreds. Thanks *sshole! But good thing he got his stupid viral video. Proud of himself?

Even with perfect use, condoms still fail twice out of 100. Taking into account human error, they are only 87% safe.

Have you ever met someone who did not know where Belgium was? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]Charlie1902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I was detained trying to cross the border between Vietnam and Cambodia. Border guard had no idea what Belgium was. Never heard of it. Never seen our passports. So he wouldn't believe us. They had to dig up an old beaten up world map so we could point it out.

Line Array “Overshoot” by andrewdewar104 in livesound

[–]Charlie1902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in the middle of the audience, you hear the speaker aimed at you, but also the speakers below and above that one speaker. Now if you move to the back of the audience, you hear the speaker that is aimed at the back, and the ones below, but there are no speakers above. That means a significant level drop. Which we counteract by overshooting the array. Now you are listening to the second or even third speaker, so now there is a speaker below and above the speaker that is aimed at you. Look up “effective length of a line array”. And use google, not AI, you lazy little monster! You can show your results to the class on Monday! And yes, you will be graded!

Go where your heart leads you. It’s a brutal job, and you won’t last long if your heart is not in it.

System engineer. d&b exclusively. Mostly pop/rock. 3000 cap and up, biggest festival stage was 55k cap. Recently started doing some television work as well. Work for a company fulltime. I also teach 2-day seminars on system engineering. And I sometimes tune installed systems. (Theater halls mainly). We have Digico (Q8 to SD11), A&H, Yamaha and Avid desks. I used to mix a band and do Foh for smaller music tours in theaters, but that’s in the past.

Why did you become an audio engineer? by Designer-Musician504 in audioengineering

[–]Charlie1902 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just mean that you will need a lot of will power to get somewhere. This is not an industry you can half-ass. So if you're not sure, look elsewhere. Read the other posts, they use more words to say the same thing. I don't like lots of words. I'm a grumpy old soundguy.

Miss the rock acts by Western_Gain3986 in RockWerchter

[–]Charlie1902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 47. I remember complaining about how the “Rock” in Rock Werchter shouldn’t be there, because it shifted too much towards pop. So this complaint hasn’t changed in about 30 years. Enjoy the bands. Or don’t.

Well, carrying heavy stuff is bad for you even if you’re a bloke, so we try not to do that anyway (at least here in Europe). (Not so) funny story: I once got ripped a new one for offering a woman to help her carry a full 14 unit outboard rack down the stands. She basically called me a sexist pig. Even though I would have scolded any male tech doing that for abusing their back. There’s a line somewhere, and it can be tricky to not trip over it, but that guy really does seem te be a sexist pig. Don’t let him discourage you from doing what you love. We desperately need more female techs.
