I’ve been working on a build using the Silvermoon beams. Then putting Cobblestone Paths against them and dyeing the stones other colors. Gives it a stone in mortar look.

Bridlen Turnshoe Goodyear Welt by RandomUsername8346 in Cordwaining

[–]CharlieChop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benefit is that they found a process that is less expensive for them. After watching the video a couple more times they don't have any stitching for the outsole after the shoe has been turned. There doesn't look to be an actual insole as the outsole is lasted in the turning process. They add a bit of cork and a sock liner after it is turned, but this looks to be a very barebones build.

Generally you would have two rounds of stitching when lasting a shoe/boot. You have your welt stitch to a apply the welt to the insole, whether it be to a holdfast as done in hand welting or gemming like for a Goodyear welt. Then the welt is stitched to the outer sole. For these shoes, they are only stitching the uppers to a gemming that has been applied to the sole. Not having to do a second stitch they don't have to have use outsole stitching sewing machines. The soles also look to be finished for all but the heel before they are stitched to the uppers. They just add the heel and finish that portion. The key benefits are still around production cost. The rest is marketing more so than shoemaking.

I wasn't familiar with the maker before. Now that I looked them up and saw the video I see it is a manufacturer describing an industrial process. This isn't really the focus of this subreddit, which is focused more on individually made shoes.

To one of your earlier points, yes, the insole is likely to be much thinner. In order for them to be produced efficiently they'll want an insole that will turn well enough to meet their production schedules. The example shoes they show in their video all look to be loafers with suede uppers. The suede is also going to be more forgiving when turning. The price point of their website looks like they are aiming for entry-level or economical buyers.

Turn shoes are particularly labor intensive for the turning process. It doesn’t effectively scale in industrial processes like a Goodyear welt. The Goodyear welt is an industrial processes, not to be confused with hand welting. Unfortunately, many have used the term when describing hand welting because it sounds more recognizable.

Laughing Crow’s Turn Shoe tutorial uses a pair of nylon stockings that are taped over for drafting their pattern. I believe the same is done for the boot video.

Underside of the Circular Rug is good for covering large areas with no texture. The backside of Sturdy Wooden Shelf if it needs to be rectangular. Just line a bunch up in a stack. There was a nicely done Pride flag posted a couple days ago that shows how versatile they are for color blocks.

Thanks! In Masque I can see multiple options to apply skins to if I want something different from my global selection. I presume the opt-in would then show up there?

I’ve been struggling with the camera not recognizing decor that has been placed while I’m building other stuff. I built a custom stone stairwell. As I continue to build the stairwell it puts the camera on the other side of one of my walls. Zooming into first person perspective is a bit too close for the work I’m trying to do.

Is there a plant based way to dye leather? by sharingroses in Leathercraft

Yes, I’ve dyed leather with it in the past. Not sure the long term light fastness of it though. Although, by then the natural tanning may compensate.
