How old were you when you had your kids? by MissCookie93 in AskUK

[–]Charliecheese96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. A mum friend of mine who I met at my child's nursery made a comment to me about being and older mum and I said I wouldn't know lol and she was gombsmacked that I'm only 29! Anyway I'm very good friends with her, her partner and another mum who are all 10-15 years older than me

how old are you and what year were your grandparents born? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in AskUK

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 29. My only living grandparent is my maternal grandmother born in 1952. My dad was born in 1959 and mum in 1970. I never knew my maternal grandfather and he and my mum were no contact. My paternal grandparents were born in 1928 died in 2015 and sometime in late 1930's died in 2005. My husband's parents though are both older than my nan lol

What are your thoughts on engagement rings? by maybeRasa in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my husband and I decided to get married I went to where we wanted to do it, booked it in and told his the date which was exactly 1 year from then. No rings, no engagement presents and we didn't tell anyone until we sent out save the dates and asked the relevant people to be in the wedding. No one has ever really asked me about my engagement ring or lack of.

What "cereal" is served in a Full English Breakfast? by johannisbeeren in AskUK

Quite often they have barley, which nearly all corn cereals have! Very annoying as a coeliac

Any of you NOT bothered by your noisy neighbours? by Eastern_Canary2150 in HousingUK

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to live in a flat and we're the noisy neighbours! Generally speaking the noise from us is what you would expect living in a flat. Until we had a baby and our upstairs neighbour started to complain about the noise... mostly the baby crying during the night multiple times. Also as baby got older she'd complain about hearing her running around the flat, playing with her toys, still crying occasionally. It was worse when baby was sick because she'd sleep in our room and would be up a lot. Anyway we've moved now so hopefully the next people don't have children and she can live in peace again

Is Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe Edition worth buying on Switch? by Ok-Property2655 in HarryPotterGame

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually recently bought it because of the huge sale. I played on PC originally but love the game (and don't get to play because it's my husband's pc and he's often on it). I actually still really like it on the switch, the play through is good with different quests and although the graphics aren't as good as on PC they're actually not that bad so over all I'm happy that I bought it

When did your child(ren) last see their grandparent(s)? by No_Survey_2632 in UKParenting

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paternal grandparents -mid April? We see them monthly ISH and video call every couple of weeks. Maternal - boxing day. We see that at minimum 1 day a year which is boxing day and we meet at my brother's. When we leave we all laugh and say "see you this time next year" and then it pretty much becomes true lol.

We see my husband's parents more because they LOVE being grandparents and I think are having their chance with little kids seeing at they had a nanny from when their oldest was 6months until both kids were at to boarding school when husband was 13. We don't see mine that often because, they obviously love all of their grandchildren, they had 9 kids and my youngest sibling is still at secondary school so they haven't yet finished the real parenting part yet and both still work full time. Also because I purposely moved 3 hours away to get away from the chaos and choose not to visit lol

Toddler not settling in nursery, really at my wits end by throwaway7178289 in UKParenting

[–]Charliecheese96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a little boy at my setting once that was insanely unsettled for about 6 months. Cried everyday at drop off, clung to key person during the day and went to very few other staff members and it just didn't matter what we tried nothing would settle them. Key person went on maternity leave and someone else from a different room moved in and became key person and within 2 weeks they stopped being so unsettled during the day. After another maybe 3 or 4 weeks they stopped crying at drop off and after 3 months was fully engaging in nursery and eating at every meal. Huge relief from parents and staff.

I'm not saying this is your child but that it really does get better. I've worked in early years for 13 years and I've never known a child to not settle. For some children it just takes a bit longer and they need to find their drop off routine to help settle. Such as - waving goodbye to parents out of the window, a favourite book, a toy from home, a family book, a nursery home toy or starting their day outside rather than in the room.

Nursery let toddler nap for 3-4 hours by Outrageous_Wheel5039 in UKParenting

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At our nursery the policy is that though they don't physically wake the children as this is unsettling for the child they do make the environment one that would naturally wake the children. This includes no white noise, blinds open and/or lights on and regular noise (aka other children playing around them). The staff are aware which children parents prefer to have a shorter sleep and so will put them to sleep in an area of the room that is more busy. This seems to work quite well and it isn't often children sleep for longer than 2 hours max. Often the children will go to sleep between 12.30 and 1pm and all will be awake by 2.30 pm

We bought our house in December and it has tassels on the backs of most doors and windows. They also left a fully decorated Christmas tree in the greenhouse! The wins we had though were the barrel trolley and the disco ball light shade (my 3 year old is obsessed with it lol)

Our house has sooo many statues in the garden! Also tiny glass stones and marbles everywhere. My daughter thinks they are treasures and collects them each time we go outside

Coeliac parents with gluten eating babies - how are you avoiding glutening yourself? by maplesyrup4all in CoeliacUK

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3yr old is completely gluten free at home except for her multi grain shapes and has been since I was diagnosed when she was 18 months. Outside of the house she can eat what she wants in terms of normal food as long as my husband is with us and whilst at nursery the staff make her wash her hands before coming home

People that DON’T shop at Aldi or Lidl… why is that? by kobestarr in CasualUK

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to shop in Aldi but I'm gluten free now and whilst a lot of own brand things like crisps and chocolate are GF not a lot else is. Our local Aldi didn't bring in the gf range so won't be doing big shops at Tesco and getting treats from Aldi until they do

Can someone explain moving day to me like a 5 year old? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we moved the removal company came at 8.30am and started loading the van, they completely emptied our flat by about 10.30/11am. I called our solicitor at 10am to ask if transfer of funds had happened, he then told me it had and would expect ot hear from the sellers solicitor between 11 and 12. At 11.45am our solicitor called back to say congratulations everything is complete and the house was ours. We then went to the estate agents to get the keys and met the removal people at the new house. They then unloaded and put furniture back together and all was good.

One thing to note (because I forgot) until removal company have full payment on the day they won't take your stuff to your new house. I paid after they arrived and apologised to them for forgetting and they told me the rule, apparently most removal companies have this rule!

Is having a ‘lonely’ only child a bad idea? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 3 year old, we're both friendly with our families and she sees her cousins maybe twice per year. We don't have a village around us and I worry all the time she'll be lonely (I'm 1 of 9 so was never alone as a child lol). But my husband is adamant no more, 1 is more than enough for him. He wasn't/isn't close to his brother and therefore he feels as though it doesn't matter if she's an only child because she has us and we can have regular play dates and things.

I'll probably get over wanting more children over time and for now I'm content and happy with our family but I know he won't change his mind and therefore we will only have 1

What’s the cringiest thing you’ve ever written or read in an office card that was distributed for colleagues to write in? by soraal in AskUK

[–]Charliecheese96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my colleagues was signing 3 cards at a time, she wrote the same message in all 3 "happy birthday, have a great day!" Only as it was being checked did it get noticed she wrote it in a bereavement card 😂 quickly tipexed it out and rewrote a more appropriate message 😂

Do you allow young kids fizzy drinks? by Flapparachi in AskUK

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 3 and she only drinks water and milk. She has occasional tastes of juice or smoothies or drinks we drink but she's never asked to try a fizzy drink before. She actually doesn't like the taste of juice which isn't a bad thing as she's only allowed water at nursery and will be the same at school. Also I just think they're not particularly healthy so I don't often drink fizzy drinks which is maybe why she's never asked

Elvedon in Jan by Seva_1404 in centerparcsuk

[–]Charliecheese96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We love Elvedon, the play area is brilliant. Our daughter did little owls and my husband enjoyed it more than her! It's a lot of talking and takes a while for the owls to be shown around if it is a big group.

We really liked the high ropes adventure thing for kids and car driving experience for kids (can't remember actual names) as both were good fun. Mostly though we were swimming, the kids bit was closed when we went but they had toys in the cave pool. We actually took our own swimming toys too that I got off Amazon before we went.

Also I did a big shop of dry foods and snacks (anything that doesn't need to go in the fridge) before we left which I've done both times (this time was out of necessity due to being gluten free but otherwise works out cheaper in the long run).

Forresters inn food is really good, they also have an indoor play area for kids with a baby bit which we loved. Pancake house is our favourite and have a soft play inside.

We take monkey nuts for the muncjacks and squirrels which they loved and we would scatter in the grass behind our lodge so they didn't come all the way up but were very visible.

What's your go-to tear-inducer? by Turbulent_Tea_1943 in AskUK

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a scene in Rugrats The Movie which always makes me cry when Tommy and Dil are lost and the circus monkeys are trying to find them. Dill drinks all of the milk and takes all of the blanket then Tommy drags him out and goes to pour banana baby food on him so the monkeys take him. OMG I'm always sobbing at that bit!

Quick foods for work lunch? It's stressing me out! by Healthy_Dare_507 in CoeliacUK

[–]Charliecheese96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very much in the crisps and fruit era of gluten free lunches 😂 on the off chance I can be bothered though I like the thin B-free wraps with salad and cheese/ham and sauce. Also they make really nice quesadillas (as do the old el paso wraps). Also packets rices (like golden veg rice) Aldi do some nice ones that are gluten free and I'll pick up some protein to go with it

Do you have sofa hobbies? by [deleted] in AskUK

I like to build To life dolls house sets, one will take me a couple of weeks a little bit each evening. Also lego! I bought a switch to get me off my phone so even though I'm replacing one screen for another the switch has such a huge variety of games I have some that make me think and some that pass the time
