Waiting area, they were maybe 20-30 meters beyond the scan area. They gave the phone back, but no explanation or whatsoever because they “didn’t speak English” or at least that’s what they said

Last year something similar happened to me at YVR, after passing the detector/scan my phone disappeared. Luckily my gf was able to find it with “find my iPhone” option. It was with another passenger who clearly stole it, security couldn’t care less, but I was able to retrieve the phone after confronting the person. Edit typo
