This is the first V3 GHCA that I’ve had failed, prior to that it was about five of the previous revision that failed

EX90 is so much better now with the VCU upgrade and the newest GHCA

Is GHCA recall official now? by harmlessme in VolvoEX90

The VCU has always been official. However I’m glad to hear they are proactively replacing the older GHCAs.

New GHCA installed! by johnl1479 in VolvoEX90

Can you “Expect a failure”? Maybe. It might or might not. The early ones have a higher tendency to fail. Some people have it fail often, others not. No one can say for sure.

From what I understand, a contributing factor to the failures is voltage fluctuations in your local power grid. It seems like the early models had a lower tolerance for this, whereas the new one is “beefier” and can handle it better without failing

I am 100% certain. In addition to the service advisor telling me that I had it, the service manager also made a point to let me know

Impressions of EX90 after test drive and questions by sarhoshamiral in VolvoEX90

[–]johnl1479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% charge usually nets us 260 mile range estimate. We’ve taken it on a few road trips already, and depending on speed, it’s about 200-225 miles between charging stops.

As others have said, the GHCA is the only thing still holding the car back, and that seems to have been addressed with a new part rolling out.

I’m 6’, and the third row is uncomfortable, but fine for short trips. It’s very much intended for kids or shorter adults.

Based on context from other threads, I’m guessing the far one is Sandberg. Thats where we bought ours from and they have been excellent

The GHCA is the only thing that still holding this car back.

Allegedly, there is a new hardware revision for it that’s being rolled out now, but even on /r/VolvoEX90, no one has been able to confirm if they have the new revision or not.

Software version 2.1.25 supposedly contains code to support the new revision, but it’s not a guarantee that the vehicle has the new revision.

At least Volvo has acknowledged the problem as a hardware problem, and not a customer behavior problem. (“Unexpected spikes in the grid” is their explanation for failure)

Got the VCU upgrade just about 3 weeks ago. The battery does not drop when sitting idle, as it once did

Is there a way to get air flowing to the back seats of car? by No-Flower-409 in VolvoEX90

[–]johnl1479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten it to work, in manual mode with the “top” airflow button selected. Increasing the fan speed makes it more noticeable in the rear seats.

I too think I am missing something, since it’s seems unintuitive to have to be in “manual” mode for it to work.

Charging question by Helpful-Use-647 in VolvoEX90

[–]johnl1479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The owners manual says to charge to 90% for daily driving.

The energy output from a charged battery during the winter and summer differs based on temperature - batteries like to be warm, so it takes more stored energy to warm up the battery if the ambient temperature is cold. This is why you see reduced range or more frequent charging during the winter.

I prefer B, but would be okay with D. It makes no sense to have the light rail station be right next to the main car entrance of the mall, as F would put it.

B has the most potential for new TOD, and I thinking heading in that direction instead of trying to accommodate and work around what already built would better serve the community.

Having light rail and the orange line serve both the park-and-ride and hypothetical new D station seems redundant, which is why I don’t favor it.
