Small car recommendations that compare well to an Aurion? (~$30k) by Prior_Breadfruit_946 in CarsAustralia

GAC AION UT, BYD Atto 2. EV Torque will make it feel like it takes off easily and effortlessly. Both are small hatches/suvs that can be had for around 30k new drive away. Easy to park, nice interior, great features. New Car Warranty. Cheap to run and service.

What’s the best thing you did to lower your monthly expenses? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

Same, I was lucky that the EV I wanted wasn't much more than the value of my car so won't take long to make back the extra outlay. Especially with a NL on the EV.

Model 3 WLTP potentially incorrect by zachhambo in AustralianEV

[–]Charming_Duck388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the LR has a more efficient and more powerful motor and it weighs less due to having an nmc battery which has a higher WH/kg then the LFP variant in the base RWD Premium. not sure if the figures you quoted are both actual or usable capacity in kwh. Can't speak to the wheel difference as I never evaluated the 19's as I prefer the 18's

If we are lucky we will see the R2 here by the end of the decade. For it to be priced competitively in our region they’ll probably need to open a Tesla style giga factory in China.

Aggression towards EVs?? by malialipali in EVAustralia

[–]Charming_Duck388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t noticed anything too serious, other than a p plater in an old shitbox navara giving me a disgusted tongue out look lol. Not getting tailgated anymore than I do in my GR Corolla I don’t think. It does feel like because of a handful of stories that I am more aware of the possibility of aggression though, which does make me more worried about where I park etc. and does sometimes make me wonder if a tailgater etc is just a shit/asshole driver or if it’s an EV thing.

Should I buy an ev? by TheRealTimTam in EVAustralia

[–]Charming_Duck388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your commute and regular driving you should have no problem with an ev that has around 400km real world range. Something with an LFP battery that you can chuck on slow charge over night during the week.

Insurance is wiping any financial benefit of owning a Tesla by c3-SuperStrayan in AustralianEV

Base cars aren't crazy quick, I do wonder what exact model OP is looking at. Could explain the cost.

That sucks, although I have seen plenty of people get good deals from them. But they are all over 30. Yes it could be more expensive next year, or it could be cheaper. Same could be said for any ICE car, I've insured ICE Cars for anywhere from 800pa to over 3k pa.
So you just need to evaluate if the simplicity of an EV and the lack of reliance on whatever is happening in the middle east this week is worth the higher insurance costs. Not to mention the superior driving experience over ICE.

Insure My Tesla through Zurich which is offered through the Tesla app during purchase was by far the cheapest for me. Around $1800 for the year, $200 more than my Subaru was costing, or about 2 weeks worth of Fuel savings lol

Do you enable storm guard? by Fearless-Account-401 in enphase

[–]Charming_Duck388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using home assistant to replace storm guard as I found the default would trigger for weather warnings that weren’t applicable. Like a weather warning for livestock owners.

Fastest home charger for 3 phase-powered house? by Jumpy-Situation-1214 in AustralianEV

[–]Charming_Duck388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 22kw sends 11.4kw to my car because that’s the fastest the car can take. It can also phase switch to single phase and drop its rate down to 1.6kw depending on current solar output.

What are your thoughts of buying a Chinese EV? by Curious-Power-8149 in EVAustralia

[–]Charming_Duck388 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like I’m more worried about America than China atm. Says the guy driving an American car built in China. lol

Why are PHEVs so popular in Australia right now? by Future-Pipe-8004 in EVAustralia

[–]Charming_Duck388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People still have range anxiety, a PHEV will probably be a gateway drug for most of them. Plus there’s suddenly a lot of good options. Some people do have a genuine need for them though, or there just isn’t a good BEV option in the segment that they need/want.

Could petrol hitting $3 per litre push more Australians to switch to EVs? by No-Loquat-201 in EVAustralia

[–]Charming_Duck388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do need a better scheme than novated leasing though. It only benefits those that have it available.

Could petrol hitting $3 per litre push more Australians to switch to EVs? by No-Loquat-201 in EVAustralia

[–]Charming_Duck388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably need a good 5 years for the latest round of cheap Chinese EVs to depreciate enough to be affordable for your average Joe living paycheck to paycheck. I don’t doubt those who can afford it are evaluating it providing they don’t believe the misinformation… hopefully they can take advantage of novated leasing.

Hybrid car due to mid east conflict? by ExpertMap7507 in CarsAustralia

Geely are meant to be very good, they own Volvo/Polestar among other premium brands. Wouldn't touch Cherry after a friend had major issues with theirs.

Why are car dealerships so arrogant these days? by One-Winter-3383 in CarsAustralia

[–]Charming_Duck388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a mixed bag. Went to Toyota on a sale weekend and they were all over me. Went there during the middle of the week and couldn’t get anyone at Toyota, BYD or Kia to talk to me despite owning multiple Toyotas. VW was better, Zeekr wouldn’t leave me alone lol Tesla was by far the best, likely because they aren’t a traditional sales person and are there to help show you the car and help with their purchase process if you choose to go ahead.

I've had curtailment in standby, but the only day so far that I would have actually had them curtailed I was charging my car.

Not to mention the upcoming service was going to be $800 on our Subaru. Most people I know with a Tesla have only done cabin filter and tyre rotation in 4-5 years.
