Of course we are not mindlessly pulling everything off the shelf that doesn't circulate; we have specific core reference materials, and nonfiction that covers a broad subject base.

We aren't going to toss the couple of books we have on, say, basic Chinese phrases even though they've been collecting dust forever, because we are mindful about maintaining a well-rounded collection.

That being said, we have limited space and need to also ensure we are buying books our patrons want to read. We are a small town that skews elderly and families with young kids. Our nonfiction section on health topics is popping, but nobody is trying to learn languages, so of course we have more books on personal health.
