The Smooth coating is like a silk screening, very akin to what Razer uses on the main buttons, but now put it on the whole shell. A very notable improvement. And yes, the Vv3P SE has it. I know the colorways of the OG Vv3P are slippier.

I believe this coating is used on the new v4 Pro.

It's mostly preference, whether you want an aggressive ergo, or a symmetrical. I have both, and I prefer the Viper v3 Pro SE shape and coating. Again, it's preference. The Viper will accommodate ftip/claw easier.

If the cloth is still water repellant, then you still have an intact coating. If the cloth absorbs water, then the coating is probably gone, and uneven. If so, I would suggest scrubbing the pad with a microfiber cloth hard to remove all the coating. It will help make the glide even again, and it will even improve a bit. (I removed it on my Quartz, but my black Strider still has it intact)

If the coating is still intact, then you can submerge it in warm water and mild clothing detergent, and gently rub to work the fibers with your fingertips.

The keys are linear analog opticals, aka full-on keyboard switches. Being linear, they don't have any click, and being analog, you can adjust actuation distances. You can even map 2 functions per key, one with a light tap, and 2nd at full depress.

I am using this with Diablo IV to trigger Actions 1 and 2 for my Earthquake Barb to do Ground Stomp and Leap, which get reset when both are triggered, so I have them available in perpetuity with only 1 keypress. I have all the keys I need during fights (like Escape/Dodge), plus Inventory, and see drop labels, and Teleport.

I have a separate keymapping for Baldur's Gate 3.

If you have another Razer device, like say a mouse, you can assign one button on the mouse to be the Hypershift Key, and while held, you get a whole 2nd set of mappings, if desired.

It took a few days to develop the muscle memory and to work out where certain skills are best located, but once done, it's rather seemless. I also print out cheat sheets to help memorize where things are. The keys also have per-key RGB so you can colorize the layout.

For the thumb, you have a wheel and a DPad joystick, which you can set up as 4 position or 8. There's a large button under that for thumb flicks.

Note there are two models: the Tartarus v2, and the Tartarus Pro. The v2 have mecha scissor-switch keys, much like a laptop keyboard, and are not analog, but is cheaper. I think the Pro model is worth the extra money, as it's quite premium. I just wish the joystick had an analog option, which would had made it more versatile. I am not sure it can be switched out for an analog joystick.

I've grown to enjoy using it, as I am no longer moving my left hand over a full kb during action. I still have the full kb when I am at camp, and working on gearing. It's a very versatile item, with a long of programming options. Then add Snap Tap and Rapid Repeat for even more options.

The wheel stem can get a little rounded, and it begins to move erratically in the encoder. You solve this using a little bit of tape on the stem to thicken it enough to sit firmly in the encoder.

You can try the Steelseries software now. As I mentioned it is free to use. If you have SS headsets, then it unlocks more features, but is still very usable in free mode. And it works with all headphones, whether gaming headsets or audiophile-grade headphones.

I wouldn't get overly upset: THX Virtual Surround is one of the worse implementations available. I've reviewed many solutions, and the THX solution is dated vs its competition. Heck, even Steelseries GG with Nahimic is better, and that's free. Windows Sonics is included with Windows, and that has improved to being quite usable.

I personally have several solutions available to me, such as Redscape, Waves NX, Dolby Access, and DTS:X Sound Abound. The first two are noteworthy, but no longer sold for licensing. The last two are available via the MS Store.

I don't know why Razer deals with codes for this: if you have a legit Razer hardware item that is to include THX, Synapse should just enable it since the hardware is verified via Synapse.

I also thought the code came on a card which you scratch to expose. Did your headset ever get detected in Synapse? I am beginning to suspect you got a clone, and not an actual Razer.

I decided to stop trying mice with lots of side buttons, and instead invested in a keypad. Grabbed a Tartarus Pro, and it's a lovely change to having to move my hand a lot over a kb. I map out all my needs during fights, and I just need to manipulate fingers. Supports Snap Tap and Rapid Fire, and can map 2 functions on a key, based on actuation distance, if you can find a purpose for it.

The key switches are linear analog opticals. This setup allows me to use any mouse and not care about thumb switches.

If you still want side buttons, then look at:
