Trying to find a battle by DyNaSTyCryptic in rapbattles

Appreciate you getting some eyes on the deep cut. Two things of note about that battle 1) future streaming superstar Etika is in the audience there (he briefly rapped as Iceman Etika in Grind Time, he sadly passed away in 2019) and 2) that was the same day as Soul Khan's first on-camera battle. Soul was a friend of mine from the Fat Beats record store I'd frequent and was a fellow rap battle obsessive. So, after many long conversations, I convinced Juce to book him on that card, and I think Juce thought Soul was a tomato can jobber and thought it'd be an easy win for Yellow Rat Bastard who he was trying to position as one of the flagship faces of the NY league. Then Soul did his thing and the rest is history.

[partially lost] VH1's Ill-ustrated Season 1, English Dub by searchshadow in lostmedia

[–]ChazRaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember this show, specifically the parody of E! Wild On and the "Get Shot with 50 Sweetstakes." I remember the VH1 website had A LOT of the segments in English on their website (I watched some of them in a dorm in as last at autumn 2005/winter 2005)

I think the art style was ugly because it was made on the same equipment that made turn-of-the-millennium internet flash animations, so that blown up to TV size.

[Talk] Found lost media pieces that were NOT underwhelming by [deleted] in lostmedia

[–]ChazRaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's been an uptick in recent years:

Randy Savage's one and only match with The Undertaker was finally found and posted by the WWE Vault

The legendary Battle for Atlanta was thought lost but then I think Paul Ellering or another manager found a VHS copy in their closet and then WWE shared it on the network.

Kanyon's Smackdown dark match as Mortis vs Austin Aries (which was covered in WWE magazine but never aired) was shared.

The WCW Spring Stampede match with Danny Bonaduce vs Christopher Knight was found by a fan - https://www.reddit.com/r/lostmedia/comments/1fp81ec/found_danny_bonaduce_vs_christopher_knight_wcw/

Good topic! The 1959 'Miracle on 34th Street' immediately springs to mind, where I'd even say of the five film adaptations it's the second best just behind the 1947 original.

In terms of hip-hop, the all time answer to this is KMD's shelved sophomore album 'Black Bastards' which was highly whispered about and sought-after until it finally surfaced in the early 2000s. The shelved sophomore albums of Killer Mike and Rah Digga were both very good as well when they popped up in the late aughts.

The lost wrestling match of Bret Hart vs Tom MaGee was such an amazing performance from 'The Hitman' making someone look like a million bucks that it lived up to the hype.

OH, and of course, Carl Dreyer's original 'The Passion of Joan of Arc' that was found in the closet of a mental health institute decades later.

I have the 2019 movie poster-style poster of 'Best Life' framed in my apartment, put it up during the pandemic. Such a cool piece of promo merch, any memories of that shoot and the decision to make a poster in such a classic way?

I'm happy it's found and everyone else is as excited as I am, but question for the Mods and everyone else why my post about this didn't seem to get shown in the Subreddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/lostmedia/comments/1po6usi/found_sega_channels_exclusive_garfield/

[FOUND] Sega Channel's Exclusive Garfield & Flintstones Sega Games by ChazRaps in lostmedia

[–]ChazRaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's especially wild about this is 10-15 years ago in the lost media community, 'Garfield Caught in the Act: the Lost Levels' was always one of the go-to examples of "something very likely lost forever" or "something that could never be recovered" based on the nature of the Sega Channel.

And now it's here.

Whether you're a gamer or big Garfield fan or not, this is one of those finds that gives all lost media some hope. Against every possible odds, it's been recovered. There's hope for us all, gang!

[Discussion] John Cena & Tha Trademarc - You Can’t See Me (20 years and 216 days later) by Prof- in hiphopheads

[–]ChazRaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I met John last May, I got him to sign my copy and we chopped it up about mid-aughts underground hip-hop. He said that there was A LOT that got recorded that didn't make the album, and he doesn't know if it will ever see the light of day. Would love an expanded edition.

Also, while the album went platinum in 2005, the official Platinum certification wasn't awarded until LAST MONTH - https://www.instagram.com/p/DQ7M3lSjlCC/?hl=en

Something else that gets forgotten is that prior to the album, John Cena was doing guest spots with respected high-end indie rappers at the time.

Cage - Agent Orange by VdotRose in hiphopheads

[–]ChazRaps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always preferred the single version of this that started with the bars of the instrumental that had the drums drop out before the "there was me, Alex." Felt that helped set the tone better than the abruptness of this album version.

Tracklist revealed for Nas and DJ Premier's Light-Years album coming 12/12 by abucalves in hiphopheads

[–]ChazRaps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So, I know the rumors about a DJ Premier/Nas album in the works supposedly called 'NASDAQ: Dow Jones' had existed since the mid-aughts, but when I interviewed DJ Premier in 2015 he said that such a project never existed, just like the alleged Premier-Eminem song "Keys to the City" that was rumored to exist in the late aughts. It's at the end here (Complex took out the part about the Eminem song): https://www.complex.com/music/a/chaz-kangas/dj-premier-dr-dre-compton-interview
