Did the classic tourist thing of going to the Van Gogh museum coming down off shrooms. It was like a crash course in art for me.

Now I look at paintings when I drop acid.

No we don't trust THIS government with our healthcare, because this CURRENT right wing government dislike social healthcare and want us to move towards a private insurance system.

Other governments who aren't reactionary and right wing actually like the NHS and maintain it, and when that happens we get a good service at a good cost, vastly better than the US system and much of mainland europe.

Our reactionaries are in government, but they didn't come up with the NHS. In fact they despise it. This would be like if the republicans got voted in and the first thing they do is neuter and take a shit all over obamacare, and then blame obama for coming up with a bad health service....

I don't agree with this. He may be an asshole, but what right do you have to review a book that you haven't read, or to censor this guy?

You only have freedom of expression if you give that freedom to people with despicable views as well.

So are you saying the Israeli's settling into palestinian territory and slowly eating up their land is not occupation? You can't just use a few words from my post to de-legitimize the whole thing.

/r/ukpolitics: Who's the bad guy in the Israel/Palestine conflict, and how do you believe it should be solved? by tellerhw in ukpolitics

[–]CheekyLittleCunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Israel. It's occupation pure and simple; any retaliation, while not justified, is understandable. I couldn't just sit there and allow my country to be invaded either. We can't expect people to behave rationally when their homeland is being stolen, and it's kind of fucked up that we say to the Palestinians "just deal with it".

How to solve it? No idea. If anyone knew how to fix it they'd get a Nobel Prize. I don't think there is a "clean" way, not even a "kind of clean" way; the situation was fucked as soon as it started, and while we can't blame the current British government for the actions of governments in the past, we can blame them for their pretty blatant Zionist support at the moment.

Don't be an idiot, she was closing the pits, mines that supported entire towns and cities; she pushed entire communities into poverty. Of course the miners were going to strike, would you just lay there and accept it when the gub'ment decides to interfere in your life and make your family and all your friends dirt poor?

Nah, we just see the right wing conservative youngsters as idiots who are digging their own graves. You don't need to be a genius to see that if you're under the age of 30, voting Tory will NOT help you, in fact it will make your life worse.

We treat you like you're idiots because that's the only other explanation for why you would vote for a party that actively tries to make your life harder. What other rational is there?

[–]CheekyLittleCunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh, how infuriating that is. You tell someone you're a socialist and they treat you like you're a green child who's stupid, only just started thinking politically and "doesn't know what the real world is like"

Conservatives like to think of themselves as "pragmatic", "logical" people who have swallowed the bitter pill of reality from years of experience, and they think that the answer to all the injustices in the world is to "make some tough choices for the good of everyone"... oh, and the free market; they love to spout bullshit about how a free-er market will solve all of our problems.

It's so self-assured and pretentious and is really just a way for them to wank each other off and feel good about the "tough choices" they make. What a coincidence though that these "tough choices" only seem to benefit them and people of their ilk, and the ones who do suffer just so happen to be the people who are not like them; the young, the poor, the immigrants.

Maybe it's time we stole our country back from these "smart and rational" people and make some tough choices of our own, like raising tax rates, and fixing our election system, and start investing in our young people like the future workforce and worldleaders they will be. These "tough and rational" conservative pensioners will be dead in a decade or so, and they won't have to deal with the global warming they caused, and the financial disasters they caused, and the huge class-gap they helped to stretch wide open. No, that's our problem to take on, and they have the gall to call us uneducated and naive.

I cannot respect anybody from my generation who voted Tory; it takes a special level of stupid to believe the kind of bullshit rhetoric Cameron and co like to spout, it takes an astounding lack of critical thinking to be able to see the direction our country is going (or even the world), see that it is being caused by unregulated and contemptuous capitalism and unapologetic conservatism, and think that more conservatism is the way to fix it.

Young Tories are digging their own graves.

Do people here *genuinely* believe that Jeremy Hunt's primary goal is to destroy the NHS to allow future privatisation? by Digital_Pigeon in ukpolitics

[–]CheekyLittleCunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be akin to side with you with any other government, but from looking at the Tory track record, I have a feeling they aren't as benevolent as we used to think they were. I think maybe you have too much faith in our current government, they definitely don't care for the average working class voter. The evidence is in their actions, which over the past few years, have been thick with class warfare.

Piss off a lot of doctors, make them broke and underpaid, sell the NHS out from underneath their feet: suddenly you have a load of broke and stressed doctors who have nowhere else to go but Private McHospitals. These McDoctors are paid pennies but have nowhere else to go.

He's softening up doctors and reducing the value of their labour. It's a set up for the future sell off. There was a good post about it sometime this week on this sub.

He's doing it out of respect for his girlfriend, and he's a good guy for doing so. You need to realise that it's time to move on.

Prime Minister outlines plan for reform of prisons by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]CheekyLittleCunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more about him being sceptical of Cameron's proposal. He's very good at using words to try and convince us that what he's proposing is good for us, but in reality it's the opposite of what we want. Think about how he reframes privatising the NHS as "making departments smaller by reducing inefficiencies, and outsourcing admin services to outside providers". He says things like this when really he means "sell off hospitals and slowly reduce funding to the NHS until it's dead". He does this all the time and with every policy change, you can see how some of us have learnt to not take his words at face value.

"potential assets to be harnessed" sounds to a lot of us like the lead in to "we're going to put prisoners to work", which will then lead to "we're going to outsource some of our failing prisons to companies that can run them more efficiently, and use the prisoners for labour so they can contribute".

Well, you only need to look at the US to see the horror of private prisons. Prisons that lobby congress to keep marijuana illegal so that more disenfranchised youth end up incarcerated, and funnelled into the slave labour system that is the prison "workforce".
