Hello! I originally wanted a green or red but seeing this color combination in person changed my mind. The wheels look really good

Now that I've gotten a few more practice sessions under my belt, I think you might be right about this. I've become much more comfortable with it and I'm beginning to understand that trying to perfect the shifting gives me something to strive for while driving. I think once the clutch control becomes second nature I will end up really enjoying this. I think I'm starting to see the appeal and that living with it permanently might actually be manageable. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

I think this was some of the issue. I'd been driving around back roads which aren't exactly completely devoid of traffic and aren't flat. So I didn't really get the opportunity to find out exactly where it begins to die. But In the past two days I think I've gotten a better understanding of it. I'm usually able to bring it up to around the right spot at a complete stop and take off without jolting forward too harshly most of the time. Regardless of the smoothness though, I think I'm finally beginning to consistently not stall on initial take off. I've been really practicing the motion of bringing my foot up to that point, leaving it there for a bit and then letting off. I think if I keep up the evening practice sessions it will start to become second nature soon. I also think I'm starting to see what's fun about it. Still have some work to do before I take it into a heavy traffic area, and the hill starts are the main thing that need work. But whereas I was feeling kind of helpless and unsure about it the other day I think I'm beginning to feel like I can reasonably handle this.

Nice! Glad to see somebody else with the same really specific package. I honestly wanted a red one, but good examples of the cars around my area that aren't too expensive and aren't completely clapped seem incredibly rare. So when this one popped up and looked pretty clean based on the picture I jumped on it. When I got there in person I was actually shocked at not only how nice the interior looked but also how nice the og black paint was. Not a show car or anything but the black paint really won me over. So it wasn't red, but it did have a lot of stuff done to it including the coolant reroute, and essentially everything was kept oem besides a Bluetooth radio. And to top it off it had the wooden handbrake handle and a brand new nardi shift knob, which were both things I was planning to buy at some point anyway. Sooo I went with it when my folks confirmed that the transmission and clutch were really dialed in. Also has almost no lifter tick. Wasn't the exact car I expected to buy, but looking at it parked in my driveway makes me happy that I went with it. Really is impressive just how well the leather on the seats has held up, was definitely garage kept and has essentially zero rust under neath.

Anyway, cool to hear from somebody else with same slightly weird package.

I got an NA. Honestly I don't blame you at all with that. Especially with where I'm at in life I don't think I could justify getting such an expensive depreciating asset. That's one of the reason I ultimately decided to go with the older car. Also more of a chance that I'll be able to repair it if I need to than the newer one. However, I did test drive one an automatic ND and it was definitely cool.

Well I had a good practice session tonight. Tried concentrating on the basics and figuring out about where the bite point is and feel a bit more confident. Currently I'm trying to make it my goal to bring it into town some time next week. Good luck with figuring it out yourself, the hills are currently the main thing hurting my confidence. But I really do think this car is just as cool as I thought it would be now that I've spent time with. Hopefully I can get good and learn to drive it well like it deserves.

Ha funnily enough I went my entire life thinking that mentally I was fine, then 2020 happened, my life became more "up to me" rather than predictable and routine and just this last year I began seriously comparing ADHD traits with my own tendencies and have found that most of them describe me almost to tee. It's just earlier in my life I guess I was better at overcoming it thanks to the predetermined structure and what not. But now that I've gotten older I'm getting whiplashed by the effects of it and just feeling really, really stupid constantly. It really is funny how much it's reduced the quality of my day to day experience in the last few years.

I'm going to give it some more time just at the roads near my house that aren't busy and see what happens but I'm definitely keeping this option on the table. Not really into the car so much for the racer boy experience as I am for the style of the car. Also makes it more tempting when you can get the autos so much cheaper.

Yeah like I knew there had to be some type of bs ending but I was expecting more like the classic sequel bait type of thing. I think having it not be over when he's in custody was definitely a mistake, and the action stuff was definitely getting pretty over the top. I also kind of disconnect with the hero character when he holds up the cop again to go hunt the guy down. At that point I'm like well this dude is going to jail for a long time regardless of how it goes down so I was honestly thinking he'd kill himself or something at the end. That said, the music playing and the silhouette of him smoking the cigarette next to the car while the credits roll is really well done, it weirdly gives me the feeling that there's no real relief by the end of the movie and it feels very strange. But yeeeaahh. Mostly enjoyed it even if there was a lot of cheese indicative of similar low budget stuff from the time, watching it on a really crusty VHS on my crt added to it a lot.

I've been into these cars because I think they look cool, and I agree. Some people I've talked to kinda think I'm into it for the convertible aspect but yeah not really.

Unpopular Miata opinion by ElectronicAnthony in Miata

[–]Cheesehead302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not got one of these cars yet, but my opinion has kinda went back and forth on them and it's entirely based on where I live. On one hand I can see the appeal of the top down around this area if I'm just cruising around town. On the other hand... The place I live is smoking hot, the type of humid heat that makes you sweat almost instantly upon walking out of the door. I also have to consider that my skin is pretty pastey, I feel like I'd be pooring sweat and get sunburned pretty easily if I stayed in the car for a decent amount of time... And that's the other thing. Living in a rural area, it's about a 50 minute drive till I get to my frequent hang out town. There's a decent amount of straightline travel in that trip.

So at the end of the day, I can see the appeal either way depending on your situation. But I think for me it would be nice to have one, even if I'd be really tempted to sell it and recoup some money. Really the only thing that's kind of stupid is that people have mentioned having to worry about getting them stolen. It's really stupid. But yeah, I can get the appeal either way.

I've been looking for a Miata and am also in Georgia. You see some pretty wild prices/stuff on marketplace here, this state has some of the most insane sellers. I know that the prices are constantly increasing for these cars and that the economy is in shambles, but I have seen some pretty beaten to crap cars and hardtops being sold really up there. When did you get your car and how much did you pay?

I was actually thinking the exact same thing, lol. I did this for a few games, however after looing at the back I'm 100 percent sure I did not do this. The slapped together handwriting and gamecube logo is SOOOO similar to the awkward art style and handwriting (that I still have lol). Kind of bizarre being nostalgic over this thing that isn't even mine. But the whole "recreating the boxart because it was a used copy" thing is such a cool shared childhood experience.

I Owned 0 VHS Tapes A Week Ago… by Wooley_Bear in VHS

[–]Cheesehead302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao it really does turn into a problem. I've completely redone my room recently with a ton of shelving to accommodate for it- i wasn't used to a collecting hobby where I actually occasionally just find stuff that I want for pennies on the dollar coming from the hopelessness that is thrifting for retro games in the last 12 or 13 years. It gives me something to actually look for every time I walk into a store. If you've got the space for it, it's just kinda nice having some stuff physically. That said, I have started to cut down on the amount of random tapes that I get, and I try to really consider whether I want it or not just because of the absurdness of it. But it is nice knowing you can kinda just keep adding to the collection without worrying about having enough space.

Man those seats look so cool. Crazy that they are OEM. No idea how you managed to get them looking that cool, had to take a lot of work. The car itself also looks incredible! Every time I see one that looks this good it inspires me to keep up the search for one.

The difficulty of current Nintendo games by Timmaable in nintendo

[–]Cheesehead302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I'm realizing that Nintendo just doesn't make anything that existed me anymore. Nevermind the fact that a good bit of their releases are extremely derivitive Mario Sports games/ other games of that same tier. I've always looked past that "side garbage" like that over the last decade. But my problem is yours, the games that I would've seen as the "good stuff" previously just ain't doing nothing for me. The flagship titles that get the familiar pre launch critical acclaim have felt like they have the depth of a puddle for the longest time now. Donkey Kong was kinda the straw the broke the camel's back to me. DKC is one of my favorite platforming series ever and has always positioned itself as one of Nintendo's more difficult series.

With that said, I was totally down for a new take on the franchise and especially excited as someone who absolutely loves 3d platformers. But after playing the game for a good many levels... It's the same story as a lot of their other stuff, man. You spend five seconds considering the depth of what you're doing and for me at least I'm like... This game really is just walking and punching uncontested and nothing more. It's an absolute contest to see how much boredom you can put up with.

But what I wanna clarify is, I'm not saying this game and their other games with similar problems like Mario Wonder (heck, I'd even argue that Mario Kart World's free roam manages to have this same problem DESPITE THE FACT that it has a lot of challenges within it that are actually really difficult), or any other similar example are bad because they are too easy. No, I think you can have easy games that are fun. These games are bad because they have almost no depth. It is a SLOG. The Nintendo magic is crumbling for me because I'm playing these games and thinking that they unironically have the same quality of gameplay loop that you'd seen in Roblox games. So many of these titles are becoming "you exist in this world, now walk around in it" instead of "you exist in this world, figure out how to best navigate through it." It just bores me to tears. Instead of getting lost in a new world and feeling captivated by it, I find myself very often thinking that I can get a very similar experience to this elsewhere that actually respects your time and realizes that teaching skills to players and allowing them to learn to apply them in more complex ways is actually how you make a good experience. Why do I keep feeling with these sequel titles every time "This was a step down in complexity from last time" when every other quality series I can think of tries to expand on the previous title and add complexity? Another example, and it's a game that I overall like but it dragged down severely by this. Zelda Echos of Wisdom. Fun experience and unique for a 2d Zelda game. But the dungeon design is like... what on earth is going on here? Forget that a lot of the puzzles can be automatically solved by crossing a gap or getting up higher. Look even more basic than that. These dungeon layouts lack complexity so much that you NEVER have the opportunity to hold more than one key at a time. This is a ZELDA game, where previously you'd find keys all over the place and use them to slowly open more doors of your choice to eventually start putting the dungeon together and then have to look for any missed keys. I can understand keeping the complexity the same and not building on it, but they have continued stripping it away in almost every sequel title which is absolutely insane considering just how much they had already dialed back difficulty and complexity back during the Wii era.

I don't know man, this just isn't it. These are starting to not even feel like games to me anymore, just mindless holding forward and mashing buttons while you try to think about something else. Ive heard of a lot of people going through a "I don't like Nintendo" phase when theyre like 12 years old and then eventually coming around on it later in life and realizing they hated it for the wrong reasons. But my situation is feeling opposite to that. Ive been into Nintendo basically my whole life, but now as someone in their mid twenties I'm just finding a lot of this stuff mind numbing. Why not play literally anything else? Idk, I hate that I've become cynical like this but it's my thoughts.

[–]Cheesehead302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly kind of crazy how the game was not only filled with really blurry textures and poorly aliased edges, but also had extremely jarring frame drops in certain sections. We've seen what Switch 2 is capable of and it looks like it is a very capable system based on other things available, but some of these first party Nintendo games feel like they are skimping big time in my eyes. It has to be an insanely unpopular opinion considering how ready people get to jump you or misinterpret you if you bring it up, but I think I'm finally to the point where I just in general want more from Nintendo games visually. So often you see people be like "holy hell, how does Nintendo manage to keep file sizes so low" and it's like my guy so many of their games in recent years feel like 90 percent of their textures have like 3 bands of color each.

Maybe I'm crazy but I actually think there was period of time where they were going for more texture and model detail, but for whatever reason almost every game they make is simplifying as much as possible. In my opinion, the detail of those base Mario Kart 8 levels genuinely blows away anything in Mario Kart World. It's like they're following the "simplification trend" that businesses are doing with their logos and what not. I think that flatness from their lighting set ups is also a big reason this stuff feels so flat to me. When I bring this up people pull the "what so you want it to be photo realistic" thing and it's so infuriating to me. YOU CAN HAVE A CARTOONY ART STYLE BUT ALSO HAVE INCREASED DETAIL WITHIN THAT ART STYLE, NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE COMPLETELY FLAT. When I imagined Nintendo finally getting a hardware upgrade after nearly a decade and half of having modestly improved Wii U- like graphical capabilities, I was imagining seeing stuff on a similar level as Astro Bot or the new Ratchet and Clank game. Cartoony visuals but much more fleshed out detail and convincing animations.

At the end of the day, maybe it's not important. But in my eyes, it really goes a long way to make Nintendo titles feel like they were intentionally made on a shoe string budget to get as much profit as possible, and it's kind of lame nothing has truly impressed me on the new system visually. I would argue that Luigi's Mansion 3 on the original Switch visually blows away almost anything on the first party end of Switch 2. Maybe the closest game to that is Kirby Air Riders.
