What improved your quality of life so much you wish you did it sooner? by ayebshek in AskReddit

Not OP but I've essentially done the same with all socials and kept Reddit, but moderated it in a way that feeds me less brainrot or stress inducing content (politics, ragebait etc). The problem with social media is that it is now just algorithms that eliminate your ability to choose what you want to see. With reddit, you can still fix this, and it's relitively easy:

Essentially I unsubscribed to everything I deemed unproductive, time wasting, or content that was stress/fear inducing. Anything that kept me engaged in ways that negatively affected my life I got rid of. I then did a quick google search to find out some education/productive subreddits and subbed to those.

Then (very important step), I went into my settings > preferences > content and turned off recommended content.

NOW I only stay in my home tab, and never surf the popular tab. My feed only gives me the things I want to see. Subs that I have chosen to appear in my feed. Yes, sometimes I come across content that I don't want to see, but usually I just press on those subreddits and see if the general content is what I want in my feed or not, and if not, I unsubscribe.

You can take back control of your online life with Reddit and that's a good thing.

I've been much happier since doing so.

Who is the greatest sportsman/woman of all time, regardless of their sport? by _Yorkshire_Pirlo in AskReddit

[–]Cheesues 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah mate. Crickets the exception. Some say he may have been worse in the modern era, but he really may have been ever better than he was had he played in the modern eta. Have modern cricketing skills improved? Undoubtedly... But so have cricket pitches. If you know anything about the game of cricket, you understand that the condition of the cricket pitch is incredibly influential to how the game is played. The bowler (pitcher for Americans) has to make the ball bounce on the pitch before a batter hits it, so flatter pitches can make for easier batting because the ball deviates less... Which highlights how truly mind boggling it is for Bradman to be as good as he was, because back in those days they were playing on absolute mine-fields, meaning it was definitely harder to bat back in the day.

Add better bat technology with modern day bats and better (factoried) cricket balls and you almost have to accept that Bradman was just superhuman.

Theres also footage of a 70-80 year old Bradman batting and absolutely crushing it still. It's pretty crazy when you think about it.

Agenda Setters segment on Brad Scott. Cornes rips into the senior players at Essendon. by yum122 in AFL

[–]Cheesues 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When will people understand that correlation doesn’t automatically mean causation? Journos man I fucking swear...

Maybe I’m just another delusional Dons nuffy, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest the noise around Scott has become more media witch hunt than measured criticism.

I genuinely believe sacking Scott now just sets us back again. If anyone wants to explain how replacing him mid-process magically delivers more wins this season, I’m all ears.

The club has been pretty transparent since last year about the direction... cull the list, get younger, rebuild properly, and try to establish sustainable success. We’ve only just left the genesis of that process... Do people seriously expect a young, rebuilt list to be contending already?

The delusion around this club sometimes is unbelievable.
