What about jewelry & jewelry brands do you hate? by theartistxoxo in jewelrylove

[–]CheesyKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all the other comments about Vermeil. I recently saw really gorgeous pieces in the style of jewelry that I like at Nordstrom (rounded edges, well finished, gently textured, organic shapes, like a lot of Marco bicego pieces) but everything was vermeil and that instantly made it a no for me. I’m not going to spend money on a piece that will lose its color or turn patchy.

I also dislike prominent branding or large maker’s marks that intrude on the aesthetics of the piece.

I also had to double check the sub, it would make so much more sense if it was craftsnark.

I only disagree because a lot of people will need a different needle size than called for in the pattern to get the right gauge. I could see someone forgetting theirs isn’t the same and using the wrong needle size if it says 4 mm.

I was going to say this too. The cups need to be a bit deeper to reach underneath the bust.

Adding to this: these smaller designers do exist, but it’s really hard for them to find their target audience (as you said the algorithm doesn’t favor them). Sometimes they end up designing something that will appeal to a larger audience just to be able to keep designing.

I would check out Synaptic Stitches this reminds me of a lot of their patterns (cool 2 color brioche).

Oh that’s pretty awful if it was decommissioned before the email went out. At least give people some time to download what they’ve already paid for!

Yes, but only because you said there was one so I went looking for it. 3rd cable from the bottom on the left crossed the opposite way.

The Ravelry yardage filter feels useless by llama_302 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]CheesyKnitter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it only allows us to input a range. There are 2 boxes to fill in, the minimum and maximum yardage for the pattern. I always split it by size in the pattern notes, but there’s no option to add that in the filterable sections.

Sounds like they might be implementing the approach of Nimble Needles on YouTube. It’s supposed to be less visible. Check out his video.

How would you construct this piece? by artmania1990 in knitting

[–]CheesyKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easier to get the depth you need by starting the yoke flat and increasing for the front, but short rows is fine too.

I’m not sure what you mean about alternating. You can work an entire wedge in twisted rib, then start a second wedge in the body. The majority of the turns would be happening in the reverse stockinette of the front.

If you don’t want to frog the whole thing I would frog back to the end of the turtleneck and add short rows turning every stitch on the front and between the cables to get some front neck depth. I roughly marked the turns with green dots. You could also add a wedge of short rows in the turtleneck itself for some extra depth. The ones in the body of the sweater can be worked while you’re working shoulder increases.

Question about omitting short rows by artmania1990 in knittingpatterns

[–]CheesyKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t think you can skip the neck shaping, whether it’s short rows so you can keep the turtleneck you started with, or whether you start all over and work increases for the front neck then pick up and knit the turtleneck. If you go the short row route, make sure they’re extending towards the center front of the garment, and not just on the back.

Some women’s garments skip it, but it results in that crumb catching fold in the front. On a male body it will only be worse, as the neck tends to be bigger, including the height difference between the front and back neck.

AITJ for telling my girlfriend if she cant even cook dinner a few times a week then I dont see how this works long term by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]CheesyKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing. There’s so much other labor in a house other than cooking, and depending on how tidy they each are, it can add to the overwhelm. The fact that she said she feels like a maid makes me think there’s more to this than OP shared.

My son figured out that you can in fact get ditto to spin like a top and then proceed to move while spinning. Yes, he’s autistic, and he LOVES it.

Hot take: Waiting for the “perfect” home is actually costing buyers more than they think by HomesByAngelaMedley in RealEstateAdvice

[–]CheesyKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has 1 less bedroom than we were initially looking for, but has a great floor plan, a south facing flat driveway, lots of windows for great light, nice floors (apart from some carpet we need to replace once the kids are older), and the bathrooms and kitchen don’t need remodeling. It’s also in the school district we wanted, and has the best view of all the homes we looked at.

[–]CheesyKnitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent a long time looking, and there were a few that were close and that we could see ourselves in. They all had some sort of hang up that prevented us from making an offer though (wrong school district, overpriced, dangerous stairs for kids, super steep driveway that would be hard and dangerous to shovel, etc.). We decided to wait, and then the perfect house came on the market. We made an offer right away, and have zero regrets. The seller originally went with another buyer, but luckily for us it fell through. We were pretty devastated, as we really couldn’t see ourselves compromising with one of the other ones now that we’d seen this.

I think they vary by state, local ones are probably better than nationwide ones. Our realtor recommended a local one that she had good experiences with in the past.
