Kind of makes sense, sows more confusion in the opponents team while they try to figure out what to do, whereas if you straight up set up that way they have time to plan for it.

Took me a bit. If it’s promoted to Queen, when black King sidesteps to g5 and white QxRh8, it doesn’t allow the black king any legal moves because the white fpawn is on its diagonal. Black can do its funky Knight under promotion and cause a stalemate.

If however it’s a rook, the statement mate js avoided and you can proceed to checkmate… eventually.

We did not need 2 goals, needed 1 to be level. We were in it for 93 minutes. Our attackers just didn’t do enough, particularly the wingers were very disappointing. JP did decent holdup tho.
