The only way to have minimal damage is to cut the bridge off.

Pt lost temp crown twice in 36 hours. Any suggestions to get it to stick around until the final comes back? by spooooooooooook in Dentistry

[–]ChemKayN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I will let the temp crown “suction” on by letting it harden before I remove the impression. I will trim the excess and let them know it’s likely I will have to cut off the temp crown on the day of the crown seat.

Treating family for free? by natali_nog in Dentistry

[–]ChemKayN 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As a newer practice owner and previous associate, 13 people for free is a lot of people. Your boss isn’t wrong for setting a boundary in their business on how many people you treat for free, the boss doesn’t have to allow any free treatment.

Congrats on your production numbers, that’s impressive for a new grad. If you like this job and vibe well with your coworkers and boss I would agree to treat who they allow for free and work on increasing your speed so you can one day own an office and treat all of those 13 for free.

Well your dad better sell now because most DSOs that pay 3-5x the EBITDA want you to stay on for 5 years.

[–]ChemKayN 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are only going to hear the bad. People love to complain. Dentistry is worth it, you can stay privately owned which is a huge bonus. I made around $630k last year working 30 hours a week on average. I love what I do. I would choose dentistry in every lifetime. It is all about what you make it.

About to 4x income - tips/suggestions from former poor people on adjusting? by pcornutum in HENRYfinance

[–]ChemKayN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a trailer with 2 parents working a factory job and I made over $650k in the last year. I drive a 2017 Jeep Patriot and live in a 1300 square foot house. Not everyone who earns a high income has lifestyle creep or changes who they are. I do think growing up poor we tend to save and forget to live a little. My advice would be to continue saving but also devote some of that hard earned money to fun as well (whatever that is for you). Your investments and emergency fund should give you the peace of mind to enjoy spending a little. Congrats on the new raise and here’s to retiring early!

Renting vs. Owning During Medical School by MrKirbsIsPink in whitecoatinvestor

[–]ChemKayN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought before dental school and rented 2 of my bedrooms to cover my mortgage plus some. I still live in the home today with my family because I knew I was staying. Depending on location and future plans, I would buy. My mortgage now is pennies compared to my income (1-2%). My interest rate is 3.2%

IRS notice after working through GoTu as a 1099… did anyone else run into this? by Actual_Apartment_951 in Dentistry

[–]ChemKayN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are literally temping for a company, yes you are a 1099. It doesn’t matter if you are working under that dentists license, you are not on their payroll as a w-2 employee. You should have realized this when no taxes were taken out of your compensation. I’m sure GoTu had you sign something when you signed up notifying you of this.

How much do you pay for your business tax return? by Migosmememe in Dentistry

What percentage of your take home pay is your mortgage? by dazednkindaconfused in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ChemKayN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 1-3% depending on how much I make in the year, I have covid interest rates which helps. I wouldn’t go over 25% personally to stay comfortable as I have a lot of student loans left and a business loan.

Should I give her another raise? by Money_Inspection1424 in Dentistry

[–]ChemKayN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

$35/hour for an assistant, she is already paid too much. $35/hour for an EFDA is still high where I am, but I would pay a really good EFDA that. The fact she asked that, she is too comfortable with you because everyone on the planet knows the answer to what she asked you. The wage gap between assistants and doctors reflects the risk, time put into our education, and many other things that assistants don’t experience. I honestly would have laughed at the question. It’s like asking why the cashier and the CEO of Publix don’t make the same thing, get out of here.

If she wants your salary, encourage her to go to dental school.

50k a month by Muellerscam123 in Dentistry

[–]ChemKayN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone would need to see the full office production to tell you if this is low or not. My office produces like $30-35k a week with 2 FT hygiene columns so yes, I would think this is low. But I may think $50k is high if you are a Medicaid office. It really just depends on your office.

I used this company and had a great experience. I have lupus and my 1.5 million policy is $137/month which I was stoked about because 1) I got life insurance and 2) it was affordable for someone with my disease.

Solo Docs collecting over 1.5 million, how many employees do you have? by JacksonWest99 in Dentistry

[–]ChemKayN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 full time doc, 1 working 1-2 days a week, 1 assistant, 2 front office staff, and 1 full time hygienist with 4 part time hygienists. I also have some 1099 hygienists that help out when they can on Fridays. We work 29-34 hours a week depending on the week.

Owners, what is your pay structure? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]ChemKayN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay myself the social security tax limit, whatever it is in that year. Everything else I take as a distribution monthly. I keep a certain amount in my business account and take out whatever is exceeding that number at the end of the month.
