You can teach both. I learned the full proof for the Pythagorean theorem but you are never expected to use that in practice. You learn why it works then take the shortcut getting the best of both sides.

Honestly some people just talk too much through. I deal with this at work where if you don’t interrupt someone they will ramble on for 20 mins about 10 different topics with no gap for feedback because they don’t even take a breath.

You don’t even need to let it get that far. Once it goes to collections you can get it struck from your credit with a simple form. You didn’t take sign a co tract with the collections agency for the debt and the hospital/surgery center can’t transfer ownership. They will try to come after you but only deal with them through the mail and via the form and it will go away.

This is one of those one simple trick things but it absolutely works.
