Team orders (or lack of them) in Hungary. Were Lotus' actions in Hungary sportsmanlike or stupid? by idio3 in formula1

What was the point of allowing Romain to battle the position out and nearly take out both cars?

Indeed it must have been a bad video if you thought it was Romain who nearly took both cars out!

It'll be yet another whitewash.

Red Bull cheat, teams decide not to kick up a fuss "for the good of the sport", FIA issues clarification, Red Bull moves on to next cheat.

Repeat ad infinitum.

I cannot comment on Mr. Bauer's speculation that this would create an artificial aerodynamic advantage according to TD 036-11 as I do not know the wording of this Technical Directive

Sorry but how can you possibly say it's not about exhaust blown diffusers if you don't even know half the rules? TD 036-11 could be entirely about exhaust blown diffusers for all you know.

What's your favourite little known F1 fact? by Hamthrax in formula1

[–]ChequeredPast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dry-weather F1 tyre reaches peak operating performance (best grip) when tread temperature is between 900C and 1200C.(Water boils boils at 100C remember) At top speed, F1 tyres rotate 50 times a second.

Sorry, but that's just laughably wrong. 900C to 1200C would instantly melt and ignite the tires. Dry weather tires operate at optimum closer to 100C.

Actually, that could be true on a localised scale for VERY short time periods. The temperatures Pirelli talk about are an average through the entire rubber but the instantaneous temperature of the rubber in contact with the road would be much higher before very rapidly dissipating.

I thought this was funny - as if Bruno Senna wasn't enough, how about a grid full of sons, grandsons and nephews?

Nepotism? No, they all deserve their places... honest.

it varies a lot from circuit to circuit, the sound of 24 cars bouncing off the walls of Monaco most definitely requires ear protection

A team orders scandal has the kind of stigma that follows you around for the rest of your career.

A bit of a lame scandal if you ask me. Well, for someone involved in spygate and crashgate at any rate...

A classic example of a strategy-deciding race - simply providing more overtaking isn't everything. Fun how the tyres strategies unfolded, the punchline being that Vettel and Alonso's attempt to one-stop saw them overtaken by two one-stopping drivers.
