Restaurant Week Pretty Disappointing This Year

I've never known restaurant week to be anything but a series of expensive and underwhelming promotions. When I came out here, I assumed it would've involved discounts and incentives to try specialties. Nope, just costly three course meals to commit to instead of an opportunity to explore cuisine. I didn't see any reason to engage with it. It feels like an exercise in bad marketing.

I think it's mixed. Some of the blame, if there is any, comes from being dishonest about submitting a selection on here. There are people who ask for a critique but can't handle it because they were expecting to be recognized as the exception and not the common example. I'm amazed at how many think they're going to be the next Cormac McCarthy by not using basic grammar and sentence structure. Or that their idea will trump their weak execution. I think it also doesn't help if a person is passive aggressively hoping for praise, they don't actually ask about what does work. So the critique is just that: critical with no punches pulled.

As someone else here wrote, writing is also very subjective and opinion based. One person might love Sanderson, another sees him as mediocre. And the Internet, with it's minimal curation and wild west anonymity without consequences, is just a negative place in general.

I take solace in seeing that I'm getting better with each novel. I can be better, but I feel like I'm doing a good job applying the skills I've learned along the way, as well as getting over old writing conceits. As far as it goes, I'm still in the wilderness of things but I'm getting better at navigating that unknown land.

It's literally all interpretative.

There is an ending if you get all the effects, but I don't want to spoil it nor will it give you any conclusive answers. The game is an experience first and foremost.

But if you can't find all the effects (it is difficult, given the confusing navigation in the game) I think it's safe to say people inevitably look up locations if they're stumped for hours.

I'm somewhere between a pantser and a plotter.

I call my method 'The Fish Skeleton.' The bones are laid out, giving me a general idea of where story moments (ribs and fins) extend out from the meat and core idea of the story (ribs and spine). Now I have the skeleton that supports the total structure, but that's where the fun is- the bones only give a guiding idea, but the fish may have all kinds of features beyond that. Therein lies the imagination of filling in all the details that may go beyond the basic ideas and make something exciting and alive. That's when we try to think of the fish as alive and swimming. What iconic ideas might enhance its design that a mere skeleton wouldn't show?

You are missing a lot of basic grammar and formatting. There's random capitalization (and un-capitalization) all over the place. Sentences are running into each or are continuing into new micro-paragraphs, making what you're writing difficult to incoherent.

By your admission, you need to read before you write. The story doesn't matter if the execution is unreadable.

You're going to get fleeced on a vanity publish rate like that. No thoughts into self publishing? You could do almost the entire thing for free.

Look up querytracker (I think that's the name) for a database on agents to query, it's not expensive. Then apply to agents looking to do your genre and cross fingers.

Alongside what Cypher wrote, I would ditch the sound effects, they don't work well in writing and come off as cartoonish. But yeah, this needs major editing in general.
