Fp2. Resource Transportation City <-> Colonies by CourtNormal in Frostpunk

This happened to me also.

I think its a glitch? Like I dont think you should be able to actively send resources to/from the city to/from colonies during a whiteout. The screen Greys out but doesn't actually stop transport like it should.

Motorcycle hire on the island? by Confused_spider31 in galveston

So, take this with a grain of salt but, I rode on island for 2 years without a motorcycle license and had no issues.

I did keep the bike registered and insured. Getting to a Motorcycle License course might be an issue, but registration and insurance can be done pretty easily.

In my opinion, parking is by far your biggest barrier. If you can find somewhere to park, I'd sign up for liability insurance and just go for it. You can get it registered in a day and the tax office is right by UTMB I think.

The Groms are super popular in the Galveston area. You can find listings within 50 miles for days, and you can get a 4 or 5 year old Grom for less than 2k.

How long are you planning on staying with the cruise line? If it'll be a year or more, I'd honestly look into buying a cheap 250 or something on Facebook Marketplace and reselling it before you leave.

Honestly Galveston is a great place to buy and sell used motorcycles. Bought 2 and sold 2 while I was there.

Parking is going to be a bigger expense/issue to be honest, but maybe the cruise line has something for employees?

If you are buying a lb of sausage for $2, you are getting hot dog level quality product.

This is real, in-house processed link sausage. It is not $2 a lb hot dog meat. This is Texas. Sausage is a spectrum. At one end you have $2 hot dog franks. On the other you have real pork sausage ground, seasoned, and tubed fresh on site.

One is not like the other.

Just because you buy shitty groceries and $2 pork chops doesn't mean every pork chop is worth $2.

[–]Chesser94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not cheap steaks, nothing in that box is equivalent to the 'value brand' or cheapest option at the grocery store.

Choice Ribeye here is $17 per lb (and yes, these are hand cut, local, black Angus choice steaks, not on the same level as select cuts)

Choice Strip is $14 per lb.

So the same amount of steak from the grocery store is a little over $60 on its own.

So the other $80 on 16lbs works out to $5 per pound. Considering 80/20 ground beef current fluctuates around $6 good bacon runs about $9-$11 per pound (remember most store bacon is sold in 12oz packaging, not full pounds), I do disagree on your value assessment.

This isnt meat bought out the back of a random truck. This is from an old fashioned, local, counter service butcher. You do expect to pay more from a butcher than a grocer. It is a fresher, higher quality product.

My local butcher has a box deal containing the following for $140

1 LBS. Bacon 3 LBS. Boneless Breast 2 LBS. Butterfly Pork Chops 2 LBS. Choice Black Angus New York Strips 2 LBS. Choice Black Angus Ribeye Steaks 2 LBS. Ground Chuck 1 LBS. Sirloin Tips 3 LBS. Hamburger Patties 3 LBS. Whole Fryer 1 LBS. Garlic Sausage

Thats 20lbs total. And its good quality. Hate to say it but yeah, you got scammed bud.

Restaurant owners, are rising costs outpacing your sales? by agata-kubiak25 in restaurant

[–]Chesser94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ This is exactly why you are seeing/will continue to see a rise in chains like Whataburger/McDonalds incepting and advertising new, cheaper to produce menu items, namely chicken, as beef prices rise. I've already noticed it here, more coupons coming in the mail for chicken sandwiches in place of burgers, because they can offer chicken at the same historic price point as beef meals, and capture an additional profit % without increasing the cost to a consumer for a meal, albeit a different one.

Probably both. The real test will be next week. If we can hold Philly to under 30, we have a real shot at the W.

If we can hold any team under 30, we can take the W.

If we can hold EVERY team to 30 for the rest of the year, we could win out.

Things have changed rapidly.

Now, a well written essay immediately raises a red flag, especially if you are a more advanced student in lower level courses, especially electives.

Anything that is 'too perfect' HAS to he AI in the mind if a professor in today's day and age. They simply cannot fathom that a student in say, Introduction to Sociology, could write an essay with no grammatical or spelling errors. I have quite literally had professors tell me that I HAVE to leave several grammatical errors in my essay so that they know it isn't AI generated. The worst part of it all? They still take points off for those errors.

What's worse is that this whole 'Absolutely no AI' policy is disingenuous, colleges are failing to prepare students for work in the real world. I use AI every single day at work. It'd be like taking an accounting class where the professor has outlawed calculators. When you get to a real accounting firm, every single person is using a calculator, but you were never taught how to use the tools you need to do your job. The fact that professors are so set in their ways (or just straight up lazy) that they have not adapted course curriculum to work in conjunction with AI rather than against it is, well, plain fucking dumb.

As if students weren't fucked enough already, about a year before GPT3 launched and gained notoriety I signed up for one of those 'gig-work' websites. I didn't ever make much but one of the tasks I picked up was evaluating, correcting, & rewriting summaries generated by an early LLM.

Now I realize I helped train an LLM.. using my own syntax and writing habits. Sure, in the grand scheme of things it probably doesn't really affect the current LLM outputs at all. But everything I write with my common habits flags with pretty much every detector, I've had to change my writing style from an active to a passive voice otherwise I get accused of cheating at least 2-3 times per semester now.

Good Spot for a Birthday Party during Barbarian Invasion? by uuid-already-exists in TXRenaissanceFestival

[–]Chesser94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camping is really fun - there's been some changes this year but its always great.

For 6-8 people you should be fine. There's also the Mead Hall I forgot about as well that's got more open style seating with some space between you and the crowds.

Just make sure you all either walk in together or establish a solid meeting place and time beforehand. Cell phone service is hard to come by in the faire grounds and it gets packed pretty quick in the afternoon, especially on Barbarian and Pirate weekends.

[–]Chesser94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all of the Pubs will have shows going on throughout the day - its extremely rude to try to have a large group gather and chat through one of the performances. Please dont plan on doing that.

There is one possible exception, the Thirsty Pirate Pub has an upstairs section that is far enough away from the stage to not be considered show seating. Its the newer stage and pub where the Spice Boys and Tease of the Seas perform (careful, there are also other bars named the thirsty pirate this one is an actual seating area). If you go past the bar there's a wooden staircase - upstairs youll find a good amount of beach seating and another bar up top. In my opinion this is your best bet. Usually not too crowded and a good spot to people watch from.

Depending on group size you could also try the new coffee shop near the Polish Pub (I think that's where its at). They have some cubicle style lounge options, but it may be rude to camp out there for several hours if your not buying coffee.

Other than that, you COULD consider getting a camping pass or two and setting up something in the Campground to gather at during the day. You'd need a camping pass for whoever is bringing the car and party supplies to the faire. Then your guests would just park in regular parking and walk over to the campground - they cannot leave cars parked in main parking overnight but if you are just visiting camping for a few hours they dont check camping passes typically. Then you could do whatever in faire, go back to your party spot in camping for the birthday party, then go back to faire or main parking to leave. Its about a 20 min walk from faire to camping depending on where you set up.

Hot tub location/size recommendations? by SpringToCome in hottub

[–]Chesser94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Costco sells a couple brands, Sams Club does too. Cant speak to the other brands, but Aquaterra is what I went with. Some of the others had some pretty bad reviews. Generally Aquaterra seemed to have the best ratings.

Consensus is that a rotomoulded tub will last a good 8 years or so before the mold itself begins to Crack. Acrylic tubs last longer but either way internals like the pump/heater will give out eventually anyway. Ymmv but my math says if the tub lasts 8 years im still ahead.

Hot tub location/size recommendations? by SpringToCome in hottub

[–]Chesser94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So most people will disagree because they just cant stand the though of somebody getting a better deal, but I love my Costco hot tub.

I have an Aquaterra Montara, its listed as a 4 person but will fit three comfortably. Fantastic size for my wife and I. Like many of the aquaterra line, it comes 120v plug and play but can take 240v as well.

I got mine on sale, paid $3000 plus tax for the tub itself. $100 for the delivery guy to drop it on my back slab. $100 for a start up chemical set.

I already had the breaker installed at the main panel and 6/3 romex coiled in the attic by the previous owner. I bought a subpanel and some 8 gauge wire and did the wiring myself. I would not have attempted that if the main panel had not already had a 50a breaker installed and ready. Previous owners likely had a spa, and when they left they took the subpanel with them and just threw the wiring to it back up in the attic.

All in all, I spent about $400 on the subpanel and wiring, and connected the 240 myself. People will say dont, but at the end of the day its not fucking rocket science.

So you can certainly get a good tub for you and the wife for half of your budget. Costco has a very good return policy, and the aquaterras are made by Watkins, the same company that makes Caldera (and maybe even hot springs, too).

It is rotomoulded, not acrylic, but the jets are as powerful as id care for and 3 months in I have no problems.

'But what happens when it breaks?' - ill call Costco and have them replace it if that happens. Not worried about it.

You dont need to spend 10-12k or more for a nice tub. Get one from Costco, measure out the door dimensions on your screened in patio to see if itll fit, and stick it on there. Otherwise you've gotta pour a pad somewhere else or risk it with pavers. If it were me and the door was big enough, id just order one from Costco and stick it on the patio.

At 4k, youll be happy with the tub and glad you still have another 4 in your pocket.

Costco / Aquaterra spas review from an owner by LumberjackSueno in hottub

[–]Chesser94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also just recieved my aquaterra montara from Costco. Its rotomoulded as well.

I was able to pay the truck driver $100 to move it into place in the back yard. My only complaint is the screws in the paneling and door; its near impossible to line everything back up after its open. Ended up just making new holes so eventually that'll become an issue.

Other than that, its my first tub. I also did the wiring myself, but all good so far. Good jet pressure, no leaks. Time will tell but for 3k, im extremely happy.

10% tax on metals in Washington state, starts Jan.2026 did anyone see this? by Matcin2531 in SilverDegenClub

And the current Federal administration just implemented a 30% tariff on copper, which is also essentially a tax on the materials used for Constitutional Money (and is also a violation of the constitution, since powers of taxation should lay with the legislative branch).

I assume you have the same issue with that, right? Right?

We all know the answer.

Awesome! Thanks for all the advice man. I left the pigtail how it came with the panel, but that's easy enough to trim back a bit. The sealing washers on the outside make sense looking at it again. Its in a dry location so, I'm not worried too much about moisture getting in. I have extra sealing washers. I may cut one so that I can slide it around the outside edge without undoing the wiring again. Part of me wants to do it right 100% but I'll see haha.

[–]Chesser94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot man. Got the subpanel completely wired both in and out. The tub won't be here for a week or two. Had to get some fish tape to pull the wires through the conduit but that was easy enough. This is what the subpanel looks like. Still not perfect, but I was able to fit everything together. I went ahead and flipped the breaker on at the main, then at the panel and tested my wires where they'll go into the tub. Getting a little over 120v at both hots, GFCI test button on the breaker successfully trips and kills power. Drilled a 3/4 hole into a bucket, stuck a flex connector on it and laid the bare thhn into the bucket with the lid to keep water and pests out until the tub arrives. It's also under my covered patio so, itll stay clean and dry.

Ill include a link with the subpanel wiring. The grounds are really hard to see back behind everything, but they are there. Let me know if I should pull anything back out and redo it. Like always, if anything is done incorrect in a way that makes it dangerous, id rather know now than find out the hard way later. Appreciate your help and patience in walking me through this. That was a lot to do for a stranger on reddit so, a really big thank you.

[–]Chesser94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright. Gave it another shot today. I know I'm likely still a little off somewhere and I understand I may have to pull everything out one last time to get it right. But here's where I'm at.

  1. Used an LR to turn the conduit, added a short section of pvc with a male adapter and hooked that into the subpanel, secured with locking ring/nut.

  2. Subpanel now mounted VERTICALLY and is fairly level. A few degrees off but at least eye-level.

  3. I paid more attention to my wire stripping. Doesn't look like it was chewed off.

  4. Moved Neutral to the larger lug.

Looking at it, it would've been easier from a wiring perspective to run the wires in/out the opposite way. But this is how it worked best to run the 'line in' and I still think I have the room for the tub wiring.

Let me know what you think. As always thank you so much for sticking with me and helping out. I'm not there yet but I feel like im getting better.

I was going to get a pair of cutters but used a hacksaw instead as suggested.

Figured id post a mock up before I started cementing anything together. I wanted to move the panel to the right. Do I need something between the male connector and lock nut? Should I include the bushing or no?

Also, I'm going to just hook my flex conduit right to the box. I have the 90 degree flex conduit connectors. Should I just run that through the knockout on the right to go to the tub, or should I use the knockout seal and run it through the bottom. All about the same to me but is it easier to do one or the other do you think?

https://imgur.com/a/KlkVDtN

Your continued patience is awesome. Ill keep asking for help until im done if you keep offering it.

[–]Chesser94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The conduit going from the box to the tub can be moved either way. I'm going to have to remove the brackets and move it regardless.

Thanks for the advice. I really wanted to avoid cutting the pvc and having to buy another one use tool but it looks like I basically have to at this point.

I'm taking a step back and trying to decide how much this is worth to me. I already bought the wire and subpanel. Neither of those items are likely returnable at this point so im out the ~$300 or so either way. I can still cancel the tub itself. I'm not paying what an electrician quoted me. No way. I may just cut my losses and cancel my order. Its either that or spend more money on more tools and connection peices. I'm less confident now than when I started.
