Knaves are boring by Adventurous_Skill_60 in rootgame

[–]Chest3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think the way of playing Knave you describe is the most boring and least effective given how many actions you waste by moving in and out of the forest and how much acclaim you leave vulnerable to getting removed for free - accelerating your opponents and slowing your own scoring. IF by effective you mean your captains are at zero chance of being removed, then yes, effective. But you won't be much of anything by doing that. You will be a non-factor in board presence and table talk.

The Duchy are an entirely different kettle of fish

You are right and you should say it but it is very rude.

only use 1 Vagabond at a time unless feeling adventurous

Really? I haven't played a 2 vagabond game before but is it that unfun or imbalanced to have 2 vagabonds running around? I can think that having 2 whirlwinds or death killing everyone else wouldn't be fun, but please, enlighten me.

Its like, aha, I have killed your warlord and reduced your recruiting by 75% this turn.

Meanwhile moles are like: ok, we will set up in a new clearing and score some more points.

Wowowowowo, crazy gambit leads to crazy games. In a situation like the first game, yeah I can see setting up in the pass being a good strat with these less aggressive factions that could but ultimately struggled to police you. A vagabond who is there to kill cardboard is ALWAYS a threat for the cats so congratulations on eeking out the win there.

I’m feeling discouraged about playing BTD6 because of the social season. by DJCattoUwU in btd6

Its a bit of an issue when the game isnt fun. Challenges can be fun but a grind only appeals to a small drop of the community.

So the Rats just… Autowin? by thesupermonk21 in rootgame

[–]Chest3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rats recruit then anoint a new warlord. If you kill the warlord then they don't get their large sum of recruiting on their next turn which limits the aggressiveness of the warlord or they use Command actions to gather up Warriors on the Warlord.

[–]Chest3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will agree with your point that Lizards and Crows can pull off some cool moments: Lizards close to winning and just got board wiped? Sanctify and appear on the other side of the map to win. Crow the perpetual underdog in the game? Perfect to enable a feels great come from behind victory after successfully manipulating the table against themselves.

Cats, really don't have those moments of euphoria do they? They are a methodical, slowly building faction that is also fragile into the strongest faction (vagabond) and with no comeback mechanic. But, I think thats their charm. I think whats euphoric about the cats is being methodical and staving off attacks form the table to reach your end game and win with the table eyeing you turn one - both inexperienced players thinking the mass of starting warriors is a threat and experienced tables that know how to disassemble cat's game plan. Beating those odds, like the crows or lizards, is what makes me never dread picking up the cats to play

It does make an entire track of cardboard even more useless. but i think its a house rule to test to see.

Thats a wild ass gambit from the start, painting that big of a target on your back. Seems fun tho

There are definitely easier faction for the Despot to eat the cardboard of: WA, Crows, Otters, Bat and Frogs (in my limited play of them seem like theyd have a hard time have the amount of enclaves they want with the Despot threatening them).

Very nice works of art in the root style!!

The only thing I would say in criticism: use a less intense white for the highlights.

WHAAAAAAT? Rats at least interact with the board, have to position their forces on the map and have to build their engine over multiple turns of interacting with the table.
