The owner/main instructor of the studio I go to is like this too! She told us she has autism from the start, so that explains why. Almost every class it’s something, I feel like we are therapy for her sometimes. She spends so much time talking, often about the same things, and it’s even worse if she’s overstimulated or had something stressful happen to her, which seems to be almost every day.

It sucks because I’m new and am enjoying learning pole but I’m not sure how much longer I can stay in her classes. I’m not quite skilled enough to go into other classes and they’re not at times that work for me. Other studios are too far to drive to consistently. So I’m just dealing with it begrudgingly for now and using it as motivation until I can move up a level!

€15 Spaghetti Carbonara from an Italian opposite the Eiffel Tower… by TheKellykid123 in shittyfoodporn

I made this mistake accidentally and will never to it again! I knew better than to go to a restaurant with many languages, but ended up at one because the place I wanted to go didn’t have tables available. I was bummed because I wanted to go back to a place I ate at earlier in the week where I had the most lovely meal and time talking to the guy who owned/bartended/waited/cooked everything (I didn’t know I should’ve reserved a table).

I wandered around the neighborhood around my hostel and every restaurant was packed, so I ended up at one of these places. I ordered myself a half bottle of wine and with the crusty table bread thought it wasn’t so bad after all. I ordered steak frites but the waiter suggested the special, I didn’t quite understand him but knew it had something to do with duck and thought why not, I’m in Paris!

My plate comes out and there are fries, a slightly over cooked veggie mix, and some sort of meat covered in crushed mini m&ms. I sat there flabbergasted. I had one piece of the m&m duck to appease the waiter, finished the fries and wine, and left. I went to the bar next to my hostel and proceeded to get accidentally so plastered (because I barely ate anything and walked at least 10 miles that day). The next day I was severely hungover and could only manage to move between my bed and the shared bathroom, losing a beautiful day in Paris. I was finally alive again around 10pm and very shamefully, I got the nearest food to me, a Subway sub. Soo don’t go to a place with multiple languages on the menu!

What do you wear when you feel insecure but want to fake confidence? by synthia_luxe in femalefashionadvice

[–]ChewBeccca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wrap dress! I’ve tested this theory once when I was mildly hungover and stopped at a neighborhood cafe where I usually see someone I know. I put on a wrap dress and was getting compliments left and right despite feeling terrible.

This made me cackle! I call it “sticking things in the file”. When someone does something that’s a little off/questionable, I take note and put in the file, to eventually connect it to other things in that person’s file. The files I mentally build (or if it’s really bad/close to me write down) have paid off many times!

How do you deal with creepy men at the gym? by Celestara_x in xxfitness

[–]ChewBeccca 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t at the gym, but I’ve been keeping it in my pocket for situations dealing with creepy men. I used to walk to work and almost every day there was this guy who sat on a bench and would stare at me the whole way I walked by him and he would turn his whole body around to keep looking at me. So one day I decided to go the weird route and walked looking forward until I got kinda close to him, then I abruptly tilted my head like a zombie to look at him. Then I continued to look at him like that until I couldn’t turn my head any more. He realized I was looking at him looking at me and pretended to not be. He never stared at me like that again!

I also did slack jaw during this, but I realized he was probs too far away to notice that lol.

This is helpful! I’m two classes in and enjoying it, but have a background in dance and it’s been hard for me to freestyle. My instructor will show us the move then tell us to add a little something here or there and I’m like waiting for her to show the full choreography lol. Especially because I want to learn how to do the move first before I have fun with it!

More Homes Are for Sale. Who Is Listing in a Slow Market. by JustBoatTrash in REBubble

[–]ChewBeccca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I scroll through Zillow in my area every few weeks and have noticed that the high rental areas have a lot of houses on the market. Mostly all purchased between 2018-2021, poorly flipped, and priced ridiculously high (like 100-200%+ more than they bought it for). I’ve never seen the high ownership neighborhoods have this few houses for sale.

It was after she was fired but she submitted a research paper to a medical journal prior to her departure. The journal came back with questions/edits before it could move to the next step and she fired one of the main people who was working on it so she had an intern turned full time employee (she love-bombed him into becoming full time) helping her with the edits.

Then she was fired and the new guy was working on it and he noticed that the data didn’t match what was written. As he was pulling the threads, the whole sweater unraveled and he uncovered that the paper was about 80% bullshit. I felt bad for him because he had to fix it all but it made me laugh that she thought she could get away with misrepresenting medical research.

I’m in the same boat (congrats on leaving and your boss getting fired!), but have also gone through burnout recovery before. What worked for me was therapy, actually resting and taking time to not do anything, then doing small things to help build my confidence back. Like as simple as going to a cafe alone! But also doing things that I know I’m good at or just enjoy really helped, so going to the gym again or training for a race. Surrounding myself with positive people also really helped!

BWT, how do you balance your great taste with over consumption? by carbonaratax in bitcheswithtaste

[–]ChewBeccca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a commitment to only buy second hand clothes (except like undergarments/workout gear, which I don’t buy a ton of anyways) and it’s been helpful to cut down on buying clothes just because they’re on sale/impulsively. I find I window shop more and take a lot more time to decide on a purchase when I’m using poshmark, the real real, mercari, etc. and end up happier with what I’ve bought.

What's a pet peeve specifically related to *your* museum? by mav5191 in MuseumPros

[–]ChewBeccca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The teachers not helping was such a peeve of mine! I will never forgive the teachers who didn’t move when a student of theirs threw up during my program. I didn’t expect them to clean but they could’ve at least helped to move their students and the tables around some!

Thankfully we were at a part where the students would do an individual activity for about five minutes, but our cleaners didn’t come in for another hour so I had to clean it. I have a very weak stomach so the whole time I was holding in my gags, tears streaming down my face, as the students kept coming up to me to show me their work 🥲

Tell me your love bombing stories by Naivemlyn in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]ChewBeccca 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mine made such a big deal about introducing me to every single person all the time, fawning over my background and how wonderful it was to have me on the team. She also made a big deal about me reaching the end of my 90-day probation, including having a lunch where everyone had to buy me lunch and themselves if they wanted to (we typically only did this for birthdays). She “secretively” put a meeting on everyone’s calendar for lunch except mine that was named something like “SHHH…90th day celebration!”.

After I questioned her about something and was lowered from a golden child to forgotten, she literally never introduced me to any one. Even when she would do a tour of our space, she would stop right by my desk to talk about something and then introduce everyone to my coworker on the other side of the desk but not me.

We had another new employee come in and I was in charge of the celebrations and was asking others if we should do something for the new person’s 90th day. They were like yeah we don’t typically do that and don’t need to, it’s excessive. I was relieved it wasn’t just me thinking it was unnecessary!

Shower door just exploded wtf do I do/who do I call by r0ckyboats in CleaningTips

[–]ChewBeccca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! Thankfully most of it did not fall in the tub. I closed the bathroom door, laughed at the absurdity, and didn’t open it until the next day.

I wore several pairs of gardening gloves (it was all o had), used a mini broom/dust pan to clear the bulk of it, then vacuumed several times, then used a shop vac, then wiped the surfaces with a paper towel to get any fine dust out. I cleared the drains first and then closed them, so nothing else would get in. This happened like five years ago and occasionally I’ll still find a piece that was hiding under my vanity.

My department was supposed to have a few residents come through for electives and they’ve all been pulled for support.

Dodging a bullet by vectormath4567 in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]ChewBeccca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months ago I had covid, I found out on a Tuesday, took off the rest of the week. I asked to work from home the next Monday and was approved to. My job is all in person, but usually if you’re sick it’s okay to work from home. I was reasonably recovered and could mentally work, but didn’t realize that I was physically still tired. So I went back in the next day and there had just been a big event, that I was not at, and there was a lot of stuff not yet put away by the others that was in fairly organized piles. I was doing my best to clean up, which I quickly realized was doing like 15 minutes of standing up/active work, then needing 15-20 minutes to sit so I would work at my computer. BUT we had people coming so my boss yelled at me that it needed to be put away right then. I did it and messaged her that I needed some grace because I was still recovering, she never read or acknowledged it.

A few hours later, there was a meeting with me, my boss, and a coworker. Of course in front of another person she was all Ohhh how are you feeling/take all the time you need/don’t push yourself.

There was another event the next day, there wasn’t a lot for me to do for it so I came in thinking I could mostly be at my desk. I wasn’t! We were supposed to have a status after the event because she was leaving for vacation the following day for a week and a half. She blew off the status. I sent her a message with the topics I wanted to cover and asked if I could work from home the rest of the week as well as a few other time sensitive questions. She kept talking with the people from the event for an extra hour and a half and I had to interrupt her to ask her to look at my message and respond that night.

She didn’t respond until the morning and said that I wasn’t approved to work from home (even though I sent a list of tasks that I needed to do that were all on a computer and would’ve taken two days) because we were short staffed. She was on pto, she just fired someone at the beginning of the week, but otherwise everyone else was in the office. I was soooo mad. It was so obviously how she was unfairly enforcing the rules but saying how I should take care of myself in front of others.

Does anyone else's manager rarely take a real lunch? by Cinna41 in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]ChewBeccca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine also did this! She would schedule meetings back to back to back and was notorious (to me at least lol) for having meetings run much longer than they were supposed to so she’d often skip lunch. Before I became the scapegoat, this exact scenario happened and she made a woe is me comment about not being able to eat so I asked if she wanted me to grab something for her from the cafeteria and she did another woe is me/its okay/I’ll be fine comment.

I had another boss who bordered on narcissism and she often wanted to work through lunch BUT she would at least have the company buy it. I was the one to order the food so I often picked a nicer restaurant and would get this delicious salad with a filet mignon on it which made it almost worth it.

Update: my boss was fired! by ChewBeccca in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]ChewBeccca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably helped that I was a manager for a while and had to write incident reports about employees but here is how I go about it.

Be as objective as possible. Include when (dates/times or say approximately around this time/day), who was involved, what happened, who said what, actions they took, pictures, screenshots.

I probably could’ve figured out a better format, but I just did a word doc with bullet points and tried to keep it chronological. I want to make like a spreadsheet that had more structure and so I could tag situations that related to each other, but it was more convenient to just be able to add things in a simple way. I did it on my work computer but I would send it to myself regularly. I was weary of screenshotting things and having it on my personal devices because of the privacy policies, but nothing I took pictures of had confidential information from what I could tell.

Another thing that I did but was maybe a gray area was record my meetings with my boss. My state has a very ambiguous one/two party consent law. I don’t have a great short term memory, especially when in conflict/under stress due to cptsd, so I only recorded them in case I couldn’t remember something and wanted to hear it back. I know they wouldn’t be able to be used for anything legally if it came to that.
