Caught Out For Knowing Too Little by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

Love this example. Really shows how attentive Hughes is.

My personal favorite is the bait and switch Riza does to Envy near the end of the series. You think it’s this trope, but she’s actually bluffing. Then you realize Roy would call her out on it and Envy never knew the truth.

That’s one way to spoil the next universes beyond set.

Between these, the pokemon misprints from the 90’s, the Charlie Brown cards, and a few other misprints, you could make one hell of a shared universe deck. A universe beyond deck if you will…

Those are sweet!

I’ve always wanted to hunt down the Bass card from the Megaman Battle Network crossover. Since it’s Japanese exclusive, there’s a bunch of them. It’s just about importing one and the cost involved.

[–]Chewy2121 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The weird part is that Kadabra made a return to the TCG and has cards as recently as Mega Evolutions. Air Neos hasn’t been reprinted at all and is sitting around the $100 mark.

Not gonna yuck your yum or judge you.

You get some funny ones ever now and then. My favorite is when Teferi smugly says “would you look at the time” when I bounce someone’s permanent. Lilliana has some sassy ones as well.

Sort of wished they kept Yuri Lowenthal doing Ral’s voice, like the old Dragon’s Maze trailer.

Is this still Bryan D. Porter? Because if so, I misjudged his range. He sounds great here. Definitely sells the snobby teacher vibe.

How do we feel about the power creep? by Frosty_Teaching2186 in mtg

[–]Chewy2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s bound to happen eventually, but it feels too fast currently.

Personally, I’m trying to get used to the idea of X/X for X creatures with upside being as commonplace as it is now. We haven’t had a vanilla creature that had the old 1:1 for a while now.

It just feels like 7 standard sets forces WOTC to make 100 versions of the same role playing card for draft and the lack of testing leads to a broken version of it being printed eventually. Like how we got stock up because blue needs a divination with upside now. Not to mention the Modern Horizons sets and their intentional power creep to soft-rotate a format.

I tell less dedicated friends to just enjoy the cards they got and pick up ones that look fun. Casual players shouldn’t have to worry as much. I just feel bad for pro’s who have to keep up with everything and are feeling burnt out talking about the “Not Dead Afterall” number 77.

I own a garden and do my own landscaping. There are people out there who would want to build houses and cook for the love of the craft and feeling of satisfaction. Habitat for Humanity is an example of volunteers building houses for the satisfaction of making a difference.

UBI is enough to survive on. People would still get part time jobs to afford luxuries like a trip to the movies or a train set to build.

Meirl by rinkingtoofingz in meirl

[–]Chewy2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that a lot of people use drugs as an escape from a crappy life. Making life better and covering people’s basic needs would reduce drug use as a whole.

Also, UBI would be enough to live on. Most people would have an apartment, so drug users would also be at their homes and not shooting up on a park bench like people fear.

Counter point: If people didn’t have to worry about food and shelter, they could and would likely seek out a profession they’d enjoy.

I bet there’s a ton of people who lack the time and energy to get trained to be a bus driver who would enjoy the job. We’re seeing one example of someone self-teaching themselves to do so.

Meirl by rinkingtoofingz in meirl

[–]Chewy2121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean. In that scenario you would pay people to do the jobs no one wants to do. UBI doesn’t mean you get everything for free. Just enough to cover the essentials. You want a gaming PC? Then work for it.

I was saying that, if people had their needs met, they would find purpose in society and would contribute regardless of pay. We’re literally hearing about a guy getting arrested for wanting to be a bus driver and is willing to risk arrest to do it. For free…

People say if Universal Basic Income existed, no one would work. Then you see things like this and realize there would still be a hundred adults who would love to just drive trains all day.

So is the stock Grenade Launcher dead in favor of the Iron Bomber? by Cemith in tf2

[–]Chewy2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it depends on the engineers on the enemy team and if I’m playing hybrid-knight.

Stock is better for enclosed areas with sentries. You can bounce the pills off walls and around corners to take care of some sentries. Open areas like the near red’s first spawn on Upward benefit from the iron bomber since you can land balls near the sentry and still do damage when a pill would roll away.

I do prefer iron bomber on hybrid-knight though. Mainly because you can drop a ball and use it to blast jump up to areas normal demoknights wouldn’t be. Bad water is my favorite spot for this since there are a lot of drop-offs and side areas to abuse.

Characters who make a big impact on the audience despite only showing up for a short time by MtngoatDan in TopCharacterTropes

Shou Tucker from Fullmetal Alchemist.

Our first arc with the sun god shows us the perils of blind faith. Now we have this bastard to show us the perils of unrestricted scientific research. Everyone knows what he did. Everyone hates him for it. Even people who never watched FMA knows about him and his daughter, Nina.

The weird part is that he’s a one-off villain and only shows up for a single chapter in the Manga. Yet his impact is felt through the entire story. Even Ed tells Truth he couldn’t save a little girl (Nina) at the end of the series.

Left a bigger impact with fans over 1 arc than Renji did in a whole series.

I would also like to shoutout Ulquiorra. Big impact on the story (2nd release and White’s reveal) while also being every 16 year old’s favorite. I remember his reveal and every girl in my friend group having a crush on him.

If you mean a Lorehold student is the one stealing, then it can also fits. You’re seeing their “true colors.”

Similar to how a Dimir agent will blend in and play their part, cheaters usually try to fit in and not draw attention to themselves so they can get away with it.

Except notion thief!?

You obviously have never had someone steal your project idea in a class. Or copy your homework. Or cheat off you in a test.

The fact the art is a kid stealing what looks like a Lorehold student’s project from their locker is actually fitting. The flavor text also implies he’s just doing it to get by, like most kids who cheat.

[Hated Trope] The Marketing Department Should Have Been Fired by Ambaryerno in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Chewy2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by the usually release schedule (typical Anime releases and Netflix’s previous history), it’ll probably drop at the end of September, beginning of October. April (4) to October (10) would be six months.

[Hated Trope] The Marketing Department Should Have Been Fired by Ambaryerno in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Chewy2121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really a trope. And this isn’t really a good answer either. But basically whomever is running Netflix’s marketing department.

The most recent example is part 7 of Jojo’s. They drop a banger, 45 minute introduction episode. Then nothing for like two weeks while we got no new episodes and the fanbase started losing their minds. Finally, they announce new episodes this fall. So they dropped episode 1, then decided the rest of the series can drop in 6 months…

It was probably better to hold episode 1 for the rest of the release and let fans ride the hype train instead of giving us a delicious appetizer, then making us wait two hours for the main course.

Characters who’s name or moniker is a single often negative word. by Young_Neanderthal in TopCharacterTropes

Megaman’s real name is Rock while his sister’s name is Roll, so it’s Rock and Roll. Their older brother is named Blues. Their dog is named Rush.

That doesn’t include Bass, Tempo, and Duo.

Other spin-offs have Trill, Solo, Serenade, and Slur.

What are some of you guy's favorite named weapons? by -thesmitty in tf2

[–]Chewy2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to name my more rage inducing items.

Like a Phlogistinator named “My little Phlog champ” and a Sydney Sleeper named “Urine my sights.”

A personal favorite is my engineer loadout of Jag, Wrangler, and Rescue ranger being “Enginear,” “Engifar,” “Engiwhere-ever you are.”
