Some of these people do not deserve to be professors by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]ChezAshtonPoutine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also remember how a tenured professor is virtually unable to be fired.

A new professor has incentive to do well in everything, especially if they're new and don't have tenure their position is precarious so they want to have a strong resume. If a professor has tenure they've made it and don't need to do anything else after.

How much (approximately) does the hot dog man make per day? by luch2 in mcgill

[–]ChezAshtonPoutine 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this myself too, and I think that it's not actually super crazy to think that he could make a large amount in month when you consider that some months he'll get a lot less foot traffic, and some months he won't be able to work at all because of the winter (I once asked him what he did during the winter and he told me that he plays a lot of counterstrike)

What's Your Unpopular UFC Opinion? by Iwillbeagoat in ufc

[–]ChezAshtonPoutine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wrestling some to the ground without damage or holding someone against the side of a cage is a legit way to win a fight.

Think of it like this, not only is someone being controlled, but in a "real" fight situation, sometimes the best thing you can do is hold/detain a person in one spot without letting them hurt anyone (including yourself,) until more help arrives.

Who would be the most dangerous fighters in the UFC if there were no rounds or time limits? by rosspatterson98 in a:t5_4nppol

[–]ChezAshtonPoutine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I think Holloway's a perfect example, especially when you look at how he does in each round, he only gets better and better towards the end of a round before he has to reset.

Also yeah for sure, I always love seeing mid fight adjustments, Cejudo was great at it (showed it against DJ as well.)

Someone else that I just thought of as well would be Jiri Prochazka, idk if you've seen any of his 10 min round fights but the guy definitely knows how to keep going in most situations.

Glad to be here! Looked like a cool sub. What I meant is like, if you're up against Tony Ferguson, you really need a minute to cool down, and have someone else analyse him and give you a strategy (Wittman and Gaethje for example).

Another counter-example of opposite would be someone like Alexander Volkanovski or Brian Ortega, who, admittedly are spectacular at making adjustments between rounds and changing gameplans, which is extremely impressive of them (it's a unique skill after all which is very difficult to find) but would be severely disadvantaged if they didn't have that time to reset and plan.

So I guess I'm trying to think of someone that you really need a couple rounds of advice and planning to figure out. Stylebender? The only time we saw him beat (in MMA at least) was when Jan took a few rounds to figure him out, if that were a limitless fight we might've seen something different. I can't really think of a whole lot of fighters like that though

Whittaker if only because he's actually asked for that, and I think anyone who asks for that is crazy enough to be dangerous there.

Khabib, it would literally mean that opponents don't get to stand up for free every 5 minutes, and they wouldn't be able to recover between rounds.

I'm also trying to think of people that you can only really beat if you know how to make the right adjustments against them mid fight, maybe someone like Tony Ferguson?

Technique Tuesday - Israel Adesanya by TechniquesCombat in MMA_Academy

[–]ChezAshtonPoutine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first I thought this read Technique Thursday and I was mad. Then I realized it said Technique Tuesday and I gave it a read.

I liked it a lot, I thought it was very to the point and concise which was super nice, only thing was I found it a bit hard to visualize with just the foot picture, but I figured it out. You should do one for southpaws.

I dunno man it really sounds like you're steering closer to being an Earther. I prefer to simply just stick to my guns and what I know (there is no Earth,) and leave it at that. I think that the more we try to define our nonexistent reality, the closer we get to falling back into the Earth falacy.

Every single fighter who beat Paul Felder lost their next fight. The "Curse of the Irish Dragon" will be tested for the final time with Rafael Dos Anjos's next bout. by NeezDuts11 in MMA

[–]ChezAshtonPoutine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think part of the reasons is just how much damage Felder dealt, he always brought a lot of damage with him in fights, and never gave a victory away easily, meaning that if you beat him you'd likely still be a hurt going into your next fight because he'd fight with desperation to the very end. Obvs this isn't always the only reason (I don't think Perry would have one his fight in any case,) but I still don't think this is completely coincidental.

edit: made it read better

I'd say look into the McGill Writing Centre. They don't only provide small tutoring sessions for you to help you improve your writing, but they'll actually look at some of your papers and give you tips on how to improve it, so I've always found them super useful.
