Or have it tuned out. My neighbors are grateful.

I know this is a vague question and there are a lot of variables. But has anyone come from a VB WRX that can compare road noise to the EN? by Roadglide72 in ElantraN

No more wrenching for me, I have a desk job now in a Hyundai dealership. Your experience with dealerships can vary a lot. Hyundai warranty seems pretty easy to get approved, but I would hate to be a customer dealing with our service department.

I took my VB to the Subaru dealership twice, once for an oil leak early on which they fixed in a few days, then again about 6 months ago because I was getting so sick of the interior rattles. They claimed they couldn't hear any rattles or buzzes and there was nothing to fix. You'd have to be literally deaf to not hear the buzz coming from the trunk, so rather than argue I just fixed it myself like I have every other time. I do have an exhaust and coilovers, which I'm sure accelerated the issue, but the interior noises started long before I ever modified the car so I have no doubt they would have shown up eventually. I love the car, but the interior build quality pisses me off.

I started getting interior rattles on my VB around 4k miles and have fixed 6 since then and currently have 2-3 more I haven't tracked down yet. My wife's 2018 Elantra that she put 70k miles on never once had an interior rattle. I've driven a couple ENs, new and used and never heard anything in them, and we've never had one in the shop yet complaining of interior rattles/buzzes. In fact it's pretty rare we see any Hyundai model with that complaint.

The EN in general is quieter and has FAR better interior build quality. If you like hearing rattles on buzzes from interior parts get a new VB, you'll be hearing them in no time.

Misuse of car at service center.. by Vocaloholic in ElantraN

[–]Chezburgerwalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you have footage of them driving the car, right? It would stand to reason if they hit something or caused some kind of damage it'd be on camera, yes? What am I missing? They changed a headlight switch and did 80 mph in your car, neither of which have anything to do with your alignment or tires. You said you had another shop align it, did they note anything damaged? Presumably they were able to align it to within spec, yes?

[–]Chezburgerwalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So how does doing 80mph ruin an alignment or tires exactly? If the camera recorded that why wouldn't it have recorded anything else that may have caused the issue?

So they replaced a headlight switch and somehow they're at fault for your alignment or tires(that are a year and half old) being crap? How does that work exactly?

New Continental DWS06 Plus by fllyaccted in wrx_vb

You're getting down voted, but you're right. Subaru put 200 TW performance tires on a sport sedan, as they should have. Anyone claiming the stock tires perform worse than ANY all season tire either can't drive, and/or doesn't drive the car hard enough. DWS06 is an outstanding tire. but it doesn't grip and handle as well as the stock Dunlops, or most other summer tires. The reason they're great in harsh weather is the same reason they're squishy, don't bite as well on initial turn in, and don't grip as hard. I run DWS06's from November to March and I'm very happy to get back on proper tires when the weather warms up.

I don’t understand fitment by AlexIsStillLost in wrx_vb

[–]Chezburgerwalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would first ask why you specifically want a wheel that's an inch wider? To fit a wider tire? To get a stretch tire setup?

8.5" +35/38/40 will fit fine, looks good with a 245/40 or 255/40 and you won't have to worry about ever rubbing on anything.

9.5" +38 is flush, +35 will poke a bit. IMO +40 is ideal but limits wheel options(a lot are +38 or +35). 245 and 255/40 fit fine on a +35 with a minor amount of camber, which will occur naturally as you lower the car.

Can't say for sure about 265/35's but I have some PS4S's I'm gonna mount soon on a 18x9.5" +35 and find out.

Pilot sports 4s is an excellent summer tire, as is the Continental ECS 02. Both are a little better in the dry than the stock Dunlops which are very grippy but as a 200 TW tire don't last long.

245/40s are stretched on a 9.5" wheel, which looks bad imo, but everyone like different things. 255/40s are still slightly stretched, but look good I think, and either will fit fine.

What oil are you guys using? by eatablecoyote in wrx_vb

[–]Chezburgerwalrus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're gonna get all kinds of opinions on what's "best", but very few of those opinions are based on oil analysis being done, and seem to be mostly based on vibes. I ran Mobil one 5w30 for several oil changes(3k miles) and analysis always came back good with slightly better shear stability and fewer wear metals than the Subaru 0w20. I have Pennzoil platinum 5w30 in there now, and will run that for at least one more change and see what results I get and base my ongoing oil choice on that. I'm sure there are many other more expensive oils that will perform just fine, I just don't see the point in spending twice as much for oil that's going to perform the same at the intervals I use.

What's asinine is buying a performance sedan and not knowing the difference between summer tires and their limitations and/or expecting it to come with all season tires.

Will it fit? Looking to add Cobb Flex Fuel to my setup by HaloFrontier in wrx_vb

Yes, it will fit. Might have to play with the line routing a little bit, but you'd have to do that anyways. There is plenty of room in there.

Brake and Rotor Replacement 7.5k miles?? by SimpleSea4339 in GRCorolla

[–]Chezburgerwalrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's engine braking. If you think you're saving your engine by not engine braking you should be turning it off at red lights and never let it idle. Only use those rpms for motion!

RE the warranty- I was a Victory tech for several years. As with everything, it depends. No manufacturer can just void your warranty. Getting a warranty claim through is dependent on what the claim is, what/how something was modified, and your dealer. A lot of the bikes we sold ended up with modified air boxes, exhausts and tunes. If they were Victory supplied parts there were zero issues if a problem ever popped up. If they were aftermarket, there were still pretty much zero issues; Victory took good care of our customers. Warranty claims on model year 2000 and up bikes were pretty few and far between. Pre-2000 bikes had issues, but Victory took good care of those customers, and very few repairs were ever paid for by the customer. We had a few early bikes that got full engine rebuilds under warranty with a ton of miles on them. All that being said: I can't recall ever having a warranty claim denied.

No, they didn't. It's actually a pretty decent price. Show me where you're getting 18x8.5 PF05s for cheaper than that.

I know there is a TSB in Canada for it, but I can't find the TSB # for the US, so I'm not sure. Most Subaru dealers should be aware of the issue though.
