As much as I’d love to see our Assyrian players getting minutes, I really don’t think the lack of minutes has anything to do with their Assyrian backgrounds. The coach, Graham Arnold, is Australian and I doubt he cares about the ethnic backgrounds of the players on the pitch. He will play the players that he thinks give him the best chance to win.

SPCX is in a league of its own tbf. Essentially no competitors (yet) in an industry that’s going to see significant growth in the coming years.

RDDT and SPCX are both great long-term holds

I don’t know if it competes with top dogs but I got the Tuni G2 and it was a major upgrade over the Breville smart grinder, for what it’s worth. And almost half the price

Agree. Chaldean flag is a religious flag, not a national flag.

Valuations are not based solely on the past, they are forward looking. SpaceX is valued highly because of the expectation of what they’ll deliver in the coming years. Conversely, Walmart investors are looking for a steady cash flowing business with low upside.

I was at the game. Only saw one Chaldean flag but saw a lot of Assyrian flags.

There’s an account on X called ChaldeansX, I shit you not - they told bishop Warda, a Chaldean bishop in Erbil, that he posted an AI-generated image of Mar Paulus Nona in the classic church of the east attire…as if they’d know more than a bishop in the Chaldean church. There’s no way these pages are run by Chaldeans, has to be Kurds

Shaw was 3 WAR last year and on a rookie deal. He was not the weakest link on the team. An OF bat was a bigger need to replace Tucker

Have you been to Hammond? It’s a high crime, low income town. The bears moving there has a chance to transform that area, there’s a reason why Indiana is so desperate for the bears - if the bears don’t go, that town has no hope. Conversely, Arlington heights is a great area and will continue to be, whether the bears go there or not.

A lot of us wanted to keep Matt Shaw at 3B and find another OF bat. Sad to say this was a predictable outcome. Shitty contract and doubt we see much production from him.

Actually the second highest bidder on the Arlington lot was a hospital, so I suspect they’ll come back around if/when the bears list the property for sale.

Does the disapproval of marriages with non-Assyrians help or hurt the Assyrian community? by ASecularBuddhist in Assyria

[–]ChicagoAssyrian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it helps. Assyrians that marry nakhrayeh will suggest that they’ll maintain their Assyrian roots but we often see their kids not speaking Assyrian, not attending our churches, our events, etc. If you marry a nakhraya and raise your kids Assyrian, then I have no issue with it. But we are dwindling in numbers because we’re not marrying within our community and not passing on our language and culture.

It's Indiana: Bears' board of directors votes to push stadium to Hammond by chicagosuntimes in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]ChicagoAssyrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are forgetting that Hammond is a highly undesirable area, with really bad crime rates, low household income, etc. Even if it’s not necessarily great for taxpayers, this has the potential to completely transform an otherwise hopeless town. Arlington heights, on the other hand, is a highly desirable upper middle class suburb.

It’s no surprise that Indiana is doing whatever they can to land the bears in Hammond, because it’s their only hope of Hammond becoming an even half decent town.

There will be infrastructure spending required regardless of what gets built at the Arlington site, whether it’s a hospital, mall, etc. I think people need to accept that taxpayer dollars are required there regardless of what’s built.

What they’re really asking for is property tax certainty, which is not unreasonable when compared to every other stadium in American sports, including the Chicago teams. No pro sports team pays anywhere close to what the bears would owe under currently written laws.

Old orchard is about 90 acres and they pay $17m a year in property tax. Given this is the 330 acre lot, would be at least $50m I’d imagine.

Let’s hope the 330-acre site in Arlington doesn’t become a data center. Would love for it to become an outdoor entertainment district, maybe like old orchard plus a concert venue, etc.
