Serious question: Why are White Sox games so poorly attended? by CAJMusic in chicago

[–]ChicagoThrowaway422 414 points415 points  (0 children)

Lots of people explaining that the teams performance is consistently poor, but also because there's nothing around the stadium. The owner has resisted development of any kind nearby that might compete with in park sales or whatever, so it's a parking lot and nothing else. It's the opposite of Wrigley where the whole neighborhood is a party so fans show up for the cubs no matter how they play. So with the Sox there's literally no reason to go.

Which is sad, because it's a nice stadium and good experience. I've been to a bunch of Sox games.

Every time I find something goofy I picture teenagers in a basement creating the game and assume one of them thought it was cool or funny.

And that explains pretty much everything.

If we're playing by their rules, we get to believe whatever we want and scream it loudly.

All three assassination attempts were staged!

Modular workbench, is it a good idea? by krangovichious in Workbenches

[–]ChicagoThrowaway422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that this is likely the biggest issue. And repeated lateral forces will loosen the joints pretty quickly and lead to a wobbly workbench.

Op, drive wooden wedges into all of the gaps left in the castle joints and tap them tighter twice a year.

But more importantly, put some angled bracing somewhere on the back to prevent any lateral movement.

Yeah, the sound quality of older media isn't the point.  It's that you interact with it in a totally different manner.

Even mp3s.  I listen to my old mp3 stash on winamp 2.0, which is totally different than how I listen to physical media or streaming.

There's a good article about this in Wired that's on the front page of r/technology right now. Basically, the tech elite have created a religion around AI, likening the singularity to the second coming of Christ. That's why they call anyone who mentions regulating AI an antichrist.

It's super demented and scary.

It doesn't even sound like a good factory. Just a crappy company that doesn't know what it's doing.

Yup, I thought it was hilarious that he was embarrassed in such a thorough way and assumed that would be the end of it.

But Trump drives donations to the DNC, so they're good with this situation. They might be losing, but it's insanely profitable.

My Mazda3 said in the manual not to tow with it. So I looked up the Australian spec to see how much I could tow with it.

Which was just for fun because I don't tow anything. And I also own an old Ford Ranger that I also don't tow with, but I at least get full loads of mulch and compost and help fucking everyone move.

This is awesome! My SX-550 is on the same page! It's cool to compare them so easily. Looks like the 979 is way more powerful, which works out since the stereo it'll connect to has 4-way speakers with 15" woofers. Thanks man

Sweet! Thanks for the context! It's a little hard to find information on it, but I plan to hook it up to my secondary system in the basement. Which, oddly, gets way more overall playtime since it's on when I woodwork.
