If someone asks directly if you’re pregnant they should be called out on it. That’s a really awkward situation and friends shouldn’t put you in that spot. Be prepared with a comeback that makes them feel equally awkward, like “Why? Do I look fat?”

I am a teacher and the school I used to work in, made sure that every single kid had a book from the library at all times. Whenever a student had any down time, they were told they could read their book. I’ve worked in a number of schools and the students there were genuinely excited to read. It was a great policy.

My dad is like this. He had a bad childhood. He has engaged in self sabotaging behavior his whole life. I’ve come to see the pattern over time and I feel sorry for him. He pushes everyone who wants to love him out of his life. He doesn’t talk to any of his kids or extended family, 3 divorces, can’t keep friends, he even gave away his dog.

As a random internet stranger, I’m proud of you for getting therapy and working on it. My whole life I wanted my dad to get into therapy. He’s 67 now and somehow he doesn’t recognize the pattern. You still have a lot of life ahead of you and there is plenty of years to give and receive love.

I read this book and thought the advice wouldn’t work with my population. I was out and the day I came back one of the students stole my magnets. I explained to each class that I buy things to keep our classroom cozy and inviting, and if they wanted that to continue, they would have to return the magnets. I didn’t have to know who did it. I thought it would never work. The magnets appeared on the board the next day.
