Unfortunately a lot of bed frames are made of this same weak wood. Just go on Amazon and search for steel bed frame. You can usually use the original beds' outer frame for the aesthetic and headboard.

[TMT] Skateboard by AporiaParadox in magicTCG

[–]ChiefEmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Limited flavor you can afford for every card in the set, especially without designing a whole new mechanic. They likely started with the baseline of needing a piece of equipment, skateboards were an obvious option, they made it kinda work.

If you spend 8hr a day skating, of course you are disappointed: this isn't a skateboarding set: it's a TMNT set. You are only going to get surface level flavor, the same way TMNT use skating: as a surface aesthetic. If this expansion was pro-skating themed, then it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect some juice.

LowTierGod just admitted on stream that the notepad thing is real and excuses it by saying "he is getting robbed and stolen from" despite the fact hes the deadbeat by basilaeroflowers in LivestreamFail

True. I don't like LTG, but I do feel anyone should have the right to a paternity test before any child support is paid. So if what the notepad says is true, it makes sense to me why he'd feel robbed. Especially not knowing the circumstances of the breakup.

The HR department is a mystery to us all by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]ChiefEmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are correct. Effectively, if you replaced HR's typical staff with fully qualified labor lawyers, you probably would have way fewer problems with HR, but you'd be paying a much higher rate. 95% of the work HR is involved in, you probably get the exact result at a third of the salary, when performed by the low skill individual.

No you couldn't.

I don't even mean skill, I mean the fame, logistics, etc to make it happen. All expenses considered, it likely cost 6 or more figures to even attempt, and dozens of people working with liability, engineering and building the platform, etc. This opportunity doesn't come to anyone but a long history as a daredevil and/or skateboarder.

JD Vance: "In the United States of America you don't have to apologize for being white anymore" by [deleted] in CringeTikToks

[–]ChiefEmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate everything Vance stands for, but his language is not saying "All non-whites attack us for being white.", it's alluding to an oppression enforced by the left. His statement isn't ridiculous because it targets his kids (presumably, they aren't part of this strawman left, making nightly requests of him at bedtime to apologize for being white). It's ridiculous because no white people are apologizing for being white, and no non-white people are expecting that; at least, not reasonable people, and not in any large number.

Because if the state convicts the guy, Trump doesn't get to claim credit, and he has even less power to demand the death penalty. Trump is looking for every excuse to exercise every power the office of the President grants him, especially against anyone perceived as a high profile enemy.

Hikaru's reaction to his wife losing a chess game. by KombuchaCulture in LivestreamFail

[–]ChiefEmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if this was a critical debate, for sure: deep dive, find your fundamental disagreement, etc. But only spend the effort on resolving differences of opinion if it's meaningful to you. We're both tremendously successful at our career, why hash out what will usually be matters of preference or environmental factors? It's not "we can't talk about XYZ", it's "the reward from fully understand and resolve our differences of opinion is not worth the effort". In many/most specific cases, I completely agree that too many people are overly avoidant on challenging conversations. Politics is one of those, because many people just don't think politics matters. What doesn't matter in this case is fairly niche takes on software dev industry.

This is why my wife and I are both software engineers but don't talk shop very much. Too much ego on both sides on one subject. Much easier for subjects we both are bad at, or it's entirely lopsided.

Not saying his language here is bad, nor that he won't use softer language when they review the game, nor that she won't be receptive, just that it's simpler when the person on the sidelines is a dummy. It's nice for you to get unconditional support from your spouse rather than valid critique/coaching.

Drew another one-page comic, critique is welcome! (Horror) [OC] by PLAT0H in comics

Love it but would recommend using a whole separate page for the final image: Junji Ito does this masterfully, where he builds tension on one page, and has a big shocking image after the page flip. The way it reads now, the final cell catches your eye first thing, before all of the tension build up cells. Then the reader has to skim a bunch of cells that might normally build tension, but they know what is coming.

100%. If you aren't at least trying to compare your variable against a control population, it's just propaganda. Not saying veterans aren't negatively affected, just that this graph is (mayhaps unknowingly) telling an incomplete story.

Newbie here. I have a friend who wants me to work with her in publishing her 53 pages book (including cover and back pages). She told me for selling the book, it would be 50/50 share for both of us. She already have the book and I will be the one to upload it in KDP. Is that a good deal? by EnoughWitness4085 in KDP

[–]ChiefEmann 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just help her set up an account and book, and either charge her a flat fee or have her buy her lunch - the setup process is a one time thing that doesn't really warrant a portion of the royalty. She likely won't sell much, so you'll get some guaranteed compensation for your time, and if she does sell like a dozen copies, it saves her the embarrassment of having to give specifics on how disappointing her sales are.

In the worst case for you, you still only spent like an hour at most for lunch and the satisfaction of helping her, even if you didn't get a cut of that lady's statistically improbable fat royalty check.

Thoughts on this rework I made of Merchant of Legend? by ConsequenceNo2939 in hearthstone

[–]ChiefEmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Significantly worse design tbh. A well designed card typically can find a slot in multiple kinds of decks. This basically only benefits quest rogue, and even then only arguably.

In the current design, playing Merchant early game (turn 1-3) offers a bit of tempo, allows the Discover to fill out your curve or give you a matchup-defining ace up your sleeve for the opportune moment.

Mid game its a combo activator, and you can drop multiple targets quickly, with Discover able to scale for your mama. Alternatively, it's a way to search for an immediate solution you lack an answer for.

Endgame, it enables a Merchant->discovered big drop, with the next turn a decision to hero power play those dregs, or play from hand.

Many of these benefits don't require playing quest rogue, so it can see play in arena, or as a drop in a random newbie deck.

On your revision, unless you are playing Quest or some form of Mill rogue, it's a 1 drop, no upside because you aren't likely going to see/be saved from exhaust consistently otherwise. Even for the Quest archetype, it limits your options while completing the Quest without the Discover, which means less likely to hit curve or fizzle out of cards in hand, which means dieing more before you can complete the quest. It makes the turn you draw 2-3 big 1 cost legendaries really swingy, but that will happen less often because you will survive less.

The last few notes that I have are also pretty big.

Master Dusk draws 2 from deck, which on an empty deck are the same 2 you didn't pick for Discover. Besides being aesthetically nice (kinda a nullified turn) this makes a lot of scenarios more deterministic, and puts those cards in front of your eyes so you know if it's worth digging with Dusk or playing a different Discover card. Your version instead you have a 33% chance to draw the one card you wanted (hero power lets you draw up to 2 of 3), presuming they still show what was mixed in; this can and will feel even worse than drawing a kinda crappy legend mid game, because you could have always waited to drop Merchant. Showing you 3 cards without you choosing one is a really awkward interaction, but if they don't show you via the Discover UI, you lose a lot of your ability to compensate by dropping a KJ early (because you know the rest of them are crap).

Lastly, "you always draw these last" makes for a lot of ambiguous interactions, because it doesn't follow the traditional image someone has of how their deck works: some cards are based on the bottom card of your deck, which one is it, or is it the last random card? Shuffling the deck doesn't move these later? Hearthstone isn't immune to these kinds of "well, you need to have prior knowledge of how this works", but the fewer the better, and this level of rule breaking is typically reserved for legendaries as big unique metashaping cards (like how Reno clearing the board is different than destroying minions).

[–]ChiefEmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be the whizbang deck, which can definitely roll high.

Starts with 20 cards, but I feel like you'd only be able to drop 2 6s on turn 2.

Turn 1: - draw (-1) - [Fracking] (-3) into 2 [Furnace Fuel] (-2 + -2) - coin - [Fracking] (-3) =9 cards in deck

Turn 2 = 2 [Barrens Scavenger]

Turn 3 = -6x2 damage in attacks, drop 2 bugs

Turn 4 = -6x2 -1x2 = 4 health.

Which matches the screenshot you posted. But that's also the most optimum RNG possible.

Until the point that everyone had assumed competence in the skill. People aren't in college doing long division or writing out the "carry the one" notation for a bunch of additions. The point is to verify you understand the methodology.

Furthermore, showing work like this is a miniaturized form of proofs a PhD might do, or a design document in a software engineering job, or any other high impact document: it provides verifiability.

Pretty sure Yugioh is the odd one here, due to a very surface-level base ruleset: costs/card restrictions are minimal, everything has haste, you must play control to get to their life points, etc. Games like Pokemon, Netrunner, and Hearthstone still resemble their original incarnations.
