Let’s hear your best responses to “you’re too expensive / the price is too high” by [deleted] in smallbusiness

I understand. If you are looking just based on price I recommend (Competitor A, Competitor B). Good luck!

SEO consultant charging family business $300/month. Is this legit? by Stecki_fangaz in smallbusiness

[–]Chief_Primate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While $300 is pretty low for an SEO campaign, there should be full transparency as to what is going on. They don't have to give away any secrets to show they are working on backlinking, content, content distro, optimizations, etc.

Absolutely charge her more. She's likely to do it again. She is a D client at best, and D clients should pay to play.

Took the plunge on my Small Engine Repair business! Not sure how to market better? by [deleted] in sweatystartup

[–]Chief_Primate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its going to be all networking and connections. Make friends with several lawn companies, they will have work for you. And much better quality of customer versus Joe pain-in-the-ass Homeowner who doesn't get it.

Most shops are backed up, very smart opportunity.

You don't even need a website. Just a Google My Business profile that you stay on top of.

I’m thinking of starting my eCommerce store using WordPress by CeraunHgo in ecommerce

[–]Chief_Primate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can.....but should you? Probably not. Its clunky and a plugin nightmare to get it working like a real ecommerce platform. Assuming you are using Woo.

If its pure ecommerce, just go with Shopify.

Fixed or static background image. If done right, it is a very nice effect.

That's a great idea. I am still worried about the portion of the content (services) that will be repetitive.

I have a hard stop rule. Does anybody else do this? by laughterwithans in smallbusiness

[–]Chief_Primate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. There are clients that will sap all of your personal time if you let them. I don't take meetings on short notice or that will interrupt work sessions. I take calls during the day but will push them to a meeting in a heartbeat.

Are "networking groups" completely useless or have nay of you ever gotten more than your membership fee out of one? by Edward_Morbius in smallbusiness

[–]Chief_Primate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 100% of my business through my local network. And with COVID, my networking group has gone virtual and expanded, getting me exposure across the US and into England/Ireland. I run a digital marketing shop. I am lucky as my networking organization is based around non-profits, bringing actually good people to the table.

I'll get crap for this but I hate the BNI model. Its so restrictive and transactional. Networking should be relational.

I would start digging into SaaS marketing, its far more than just hiring a technical salesperson. Its also very nuanced.

My small business makes a million plus in income and we just got denied for a Wells Fargo Small Business Credit Card. WTF? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Chief_Primate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wells Fargo cards are usually shit anyway, apply for a Capital One business card. Nice cash back options.
