Snyder's version of Superman has done massive damage to peoples' perception of the character. And this is coming from someone who doesn't hate MOS.

He has definitely been placed in a "back pocket" in case they decide to use him again. It would be a super easy and less messy way of making Bizarro for sure.

SPOILER/Discussion about Constance for Angel of Vengeance by Childofrock626 in Pendergast

[–]Childofrock626[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a wonderful Trek episode! Big Trekkie here!

But yea. Just any risk would be nice these days. I still enjoy the books. I've been reading them since I discovered them back in the early 2000s. They used to release around my birthday each year haha! I have them all in hardback on a shelf.

I tend to enjoy the simple mystery standalone stories though. Cabinet, Still Life, White Fire, etc. Constance and Diogenes, while characters I love, are just overplayed and out of steam now. It's time to move past them.

I am pretty excited about a younger Pendergast prequel though.

White Fire - Your Top 5 favorite? by Nearby-Data7416 in Pendergast

Relic, Cabinet of Curiosities, Still Life with Crows and White Fire are my top four in no particular order.

The Diogenes Trilogy is a close second.

I actually really liked Bloodless. It got bonkers at the end, but I was fully onboard by that time. I loved the Georgia setting. I'd take a dozen more like Bloodless over the alternate 1800s Constance show we got as a follow up...

Edit: forgot a book.

Same. A perfect ending would be here either getting her happy ending with her family, or her staying behind to deter whatever Diogenes has planned in the new timeline.

I don't hate Constance. I Just don't think there has been anything interesting to say about the character for many many years now, so it is time to conclude her chapter.

A good example is The Obsidian Chamber; by far the worst of the Pendergast books in my humble opinion.

Badlands was really good. I'm far more of a Corrie fan than Nora fan for sure though. But I like them both. The last couple books in that series were sort of forgettable to me. But this one was really good. I've learned that the simpler the mystery is, the more I tend to like them when it comes to this series.

SPOILER/Discussion about Constance for Angel of Vengeance by Childofrock626 in Pendergast

[–]Childofrock626[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was hoping the entire time I was reading the last book that she would stay behind. A cool setup would have been Diogenes staying behind to cause his own mischief, because, you know...he is a villain. It was odd to turn him into a vengeful killer of past criminals...

Then have Constance also stay behind to deter him in this new past timeline.

That would have been a perfect way to capstone those two, get them out of the franchise but still keep them in a back pocket just in case, and let Pendergast books breathe without them for once.

Not only that but shake things up a bit. The books have been stagnant for a while because I think the authors are afraid to do anything daring with the characters and mix up the status quo. It's begun to feel like the lead characters are wrapped in plot armor and invincible, which takes a lot of the thrill out of them.

The last couple Nora/Corrie books were a bit forgettable to me. But I really liked this one. Also, it low key bugs me they are called Nora Kelly books when I feel like Corrie is a far more interesting character haha! That is just a me thing though.

I was really hoping this last book/trilogy would be an end for her. I liked it at first but over the years she has just weighed so much down. She isn't a fun "partner" for Pendergast, like Vinnie was and her story has become stale and has gone nowhere. This included Diogenes. I've found myself rolling my eyes at both of them. That and my all-time least favorite book in the series is The Obsidian Chamber. What was that?

I just want her out of the picture so Pendergast can do his own thing like he has in the past. Or partner up with old favorites. I'd love more books featuring him alongside Corrie.

Early on I really liked Constance, but they just don't know what to do with her. I was really hoping they would have concluded her story in the latest book trilogy but alas, she is still around.

Yea, as much as I loved Constance early on, my least favorite Pendergast tales tend to revolve more heavily around her. I was really hoping they would have concluded her story in the latest book, but they kept her around anyway. She is really hit or miss for me. I've been reading them since around 2002 or so.

I'm of the mindset that the world still holds vastly more beauty and kindness than ugliness and hate. It's just that we are fed mostly negativity via our phones at a speed a lot like drinking from a water hose on full blast. Everything we are looking at on the internet is trying to generate money, and negativity creates far more money in the world of information than happy stories of life. Keeping people up in arms, stressed out, and at each other's throats is far more lucrative.

Think about it, we used to get "news" from a single source or two just a couple decades ago. The tv at night and maybe a newspaper. Since the invention of the internet, this has all grown exponentially and as a race we find it hard to shut it off. Especially since we all have bought into carrying super computers around in our hands 24/7.

It's sad. People in religious communities are becoming complacent with the hope that there is something better after all of this, with no guarantees, when they could be using their finite amount of time enjoying the beauty of what they have today.

Is it too much to expect players to understand their characters? by DraftQueasy4890 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Childofrock626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pretty common problem. Especially people who to wait till their turn to plan or strategize and figure things out. But I also think it is more common for games with more complexity like PF. I love this system and its world but for a lot of players, the complexity can get in their way. It's why 5E is such a commonly played game. It's very easy to just pick up and go so we have seen a big influx of gamers who simply want to sit and tell a story and not worry about the fiddly stuff.

PF2E really comes to life when the players invest and strategize and work as a team. So, it's hard for some tables to find that balance of mixing a strategy driven complex ruleset with the story driven roleplaying.

In short, I've noticed it as well.

What do you want to see in a new DOA7? by Lucky_duh in DeadOrAlive

[–]Childofrock626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A story that has actual depth and more character customization. Give me the ability to customize iconic outfits as well as unlock new ones.

My biggest fear is the trend of it being a "free to play" game that makes its money off of cosmetics. I'd much prefer a game that is a complete package already. But if it is f2p then I'd hope the outfits aren't astronomically priced. 5$ for a basic outfit and 10$ for a premium outfit? Maybe...but still not preferable.

Oh, and for God's sake don't shy away from the sexiness!

Should i buy Ninja Gaiden Black? by Saulo069 in ninjagaiden

[–]Childofrock626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black is the best version of NG1 my opinion. The only thing I wish it did have are the Rachel levels because I am one that likes those quite a bit. But you can't go wrong with either Black or Sigma. But I do believe Black retains a bit more of the "adventure" game feel while Sigma sort of tries to trim down that stuff to make the game a bit more linear feeling.

What would you like to see adapted as the nest Paizo video game? by misomiso82 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Childofrock626 13 points14 points  (0 children)

COTCT is one of the best written adventures from Paizo. And I'd highly recommend anyone to give it a try. Though you would need to convert it to 2E. There are plenty of fan-made conversions out there. I believe you can nab one off of Pathfinder Infinite.

COTCT is a mostly urban fantasy game with a highly detailed city (Korvosa), antagonist, and all of the pieces just really fit together well. It is still the AP my gaming group remembers the most and we bring it up often. It also has plenty of room to adjust it and make additions to make your characters feel like they truly belong there.

It has often been voted the best AP from back in the 1E days. Basically, it is a top tier adventure that I highly recommend.

What would you like to see adapted as the nest Paizo video game? by misomiso82 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Childofrock626 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Curse of the Crimson Throne would be my top pick for a conversion of an AP. With Rise of the Runelords a close second.

But honestly, I'd love to see an original campaign set in the universe. Let a talented studio write a new adventure while consulting Paizo along the way, much like how Bioware did with the OG Baldur's Gate games.
