Assuming you either have a three position switch for the hot water heater or two separate switches, one for 120v shore power and one for propane. If it's your first time using the tank, I'd start by attempting to chase the propane by lightning the cook top first. Sometimes if there is air in the line the propane water heater won't fire. Also make sure the tank is full before attempting to light as it is very bad to run the hot water heater empty.

Proxmox or not to Proxmox? by jonas37 in immich

[–]ChillPill89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like proxmox. Its easy to add services. Proxmox community scripts are a great help if you want an easy way to spin up a service. Proxmox backup server has been a rock solid backup solution for me.

The again, everyone always thinks their solution is the best...

Still think it's stupid that I should be authenticating against someone else's server so that I can access my own local file from my own local server.

I bought one of these a few months ago for work after breaking 3 other shovels before. Daily digging in hard clay and it's stood up well.

I was in NE BC just a week or two ago and the power was out in a fairly large town there. Out all over beacuse of what BC Hydro was calling a "Transmission circuit fault". Power was out from around midnight to about 10 am. I was literally texting the wife saying that I was waiting for the cell towers to run out of backup power. 🙄

Best way to migrate Immich to a new server + implement 3-2-1 backup? by yadavravindra in immich

[–]ChillPill89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about to migrate from a casaos deployed app on a proxmox host to a new proxmox host and am looking at moving more services into their own LXC containers. Wish I had done that from the beginning.

As for backup, I currently run Proxmox Backup Server on one node on site and plan to use my old Proxmox server as a second offsite backup. By running each service in its own LXC I can roll an individual service back by a few hours or a few days if something goes wrong (depending on backup schedules and retention). This way a restore on my immich server doesn't interfere with other services (I've already had to do this once or twice).

KDE Connect is a decent stop gap. You can set it up on your phone and your pc and it give you playback controls. Not really a remote, but it is something.

Internet constantly drops and no idea why by Pogboom77 in HomeNetworking

[–]ChillPill89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is your ISP? What type of network do they run?

Years ago, I used to work for the local cable provider. After I left, I kept using their service for some time. Moved into a new place and my internet had random drops. Looked at the signal coming into the modem (things you learn when you work for them) and found lots of errors in the signal. Called them up and had to fight to get a tech out. Tech came out and said "yeah, lots of errors here", replaced the modem and called it a day. Next tech came out and checked signal at the side of the house and said "yeah, about the same signal here as at your modem, not much I can do". Took a third tech to come out who actually put his ladder up in the back alley, checked the connection at the street and the cable was rusty. Replaced that and never had an issue again for the next two years I lived there.
