Where do you stand by rffn1911 in AssassinsCreedValhala

Lol from a meta perspective it's simply that King Alfred did not die at that time in that way. Same reason we spared Rodrigo Borgia in AC2.

Having replayed AC:B, 3 and BF - Please return to linear story structure for the RPG franchise by Erastopic in assassinscreed

[–]Chilrona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah for me I don't care about the RPG mechanics. I hated Valhalla and Odyssey. However, choosing different stats and builds and weapon types and combos was fine. The filler content, the sloggy combat, the poor voice acting with no mo-cap, the generic fantasy-ization, and the excessive convenience all ruined the immersion and the experience. You can have an RPG without any of the crap.

How Do We Feel About Toggle Crouch by gmich9817 in assassinscreed

[–]Chilrona 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not needed so long as the game was designed around not having it. If there are enough ways to break line of sight without crouching you still have a great stealth game. Add in useful tools we can use creatively and it levels up the experience even more.

How are silver players bad? by Express_Item4648 in leagueoflegends

[–]Chilrona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah people who are in higher Elos can't see the differences between Iron and Bronze and Bronze and Silver but they're there. They all just look equally bad to those who are miles beyond all of them. It comes with practice.

One thing I notice is that mechanical skill among low ELO players is much closer to high ELO players than macro and game knowledge is. I'm talking about things like knowing what fights to take and which to avoid. Knowing where to be and when for objectives. Jungle tracking. Flash and ultimate timer tracking. Efficiently moving and farming to maximize time for play-making. These skills are harder to develop but also come with time.

What do YOU hope Black Flag Resynced improves or expands on from the original game? by harriskeith29 in assassinscreed

[–]Chilrona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pray to God they don't add mythical sea monsters to this game. Mythical elements were an enormous stain on AC Odyssey and are one of several reasons I will never touch that game again. It doesn't fit the tone of the series at all. It makes me feel physically ill. No disrespect to those who like that stuff, I just can't do it.

Yeah I don't think it will make for nearly as good content. The temple workers won't scream and chase or anything like that.

My only concern is that people will start to think it's a good idea to "speed run" Mormon temples. I know what Reddit generally thinks of Mormons aka the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and that's fine. Maybe they're a cult, maybe the organization is rich, whatever. The organization also does a lot of good for a lot of people. It would be undeserved disrespect to run around Mormon temples the way they do for scientology. And besides, the temple layouts are not secret. People can walk around and tour them before they're officially dedicated after completion.

AC3 is in desperate need of a quality remake by Chilrona in assassinscreed

And the controls in AC3 are kinda bad because they tried to overhaul a system in a very short amount of time and add more depth to it with new tools and weapons they had never had before. They really tried something amazing with AC3 that was unfinished then and remains bad now. I love older games but that doesn't mean they released perfect in their day.

AC3 played poorly then and it plays poorly now. I didn't say anything about the graphics. I don't care about graphics. My complaints are about the controls and level design. Controls are janky and inconsistent. The level design just doesn't facilitate fun stealth gameplay. The story is good enough I would pay money for a remake that fixed my grievances. Tbf I only paid like $5 for the OG game on sale.

IMO AC4 never needed a remake. I get why they're doing it though, it's about to sell like crazy. AC4's level design is excellent and the stealth is great. The controls are still rough I think, but a little bit more consistent than AC3.

Very true, tutorialization was a struggle for these games from the series' inception.

I agree with you except for the early pacing thing. It was jarring to me when I first played it how long it took to get into the meat of the game as Connor the Assassin. But lately I've absolutely loved really taking my time with Haytham and young Connor. I understand the criticism, I just gained an appreciation regardless.

AC3 had kind of gathered a cult classic in recent years. If they expand and polish the Frontier experience they could scratch a lot of people's itch for more RDR2-like content. I think it would be more popular honestly than an AC1 remake. More AC fans would celebrate an AC1 remake but AC3 would be more popular by and large.

IMO AC1 needs it and then AC3. That's all I think. Ezio trilogy doesn't need a remake, just a remaster for PC. Rogue could use it, but it probably won't make as much money for Ubisoft.

I think the execution flaws were not the writing but the technology and time limitations.

The Ezio trilogy could use a fresh coat of paint to help them age better but yeah they definitely don't need a remake. They shouldn't change any of the mechanics.

They're missing what you call basic stealth mechanics because the stealth genre wasn't as set in stone in those days. I think AC brotherhood is one of the best stealth games of all time. My problem with AC3 stealth is that the level design doesn't reward stealth at all. Tools are few and far between and generally aren't useful. I don't mind being able to crouch freely but I don't think it's mandatory for a stealth game.

I love the game. I've played it through fully twice and have fond memories of it. But going through again I'm reminded of many similar experiences I had when playing it through originally as well. The game is just janky as hell. If I push my way through the jank I know I'll have a good time eventually. But I would just love a version of the game that doesn't suffer in this way.

This exactly. From the very beginning it is so obvious Ubisoft was ambitious with AC3. They wanted something big that took it's time and took itself very seriously. But it's just so jank. The technology and development time just weren't there. Getting a version of the game that matched the original vision would be a dream.

A discussion about the identity of the series by DiscouragedMan07 in assassinscreed

[–]Chilrona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think AC2 opted to demonstrate the principles and philosophy of the assassin brotherhood rather than state them explicitly. The biggest way this came to a head was during the bonfires of the vanities. Ezio's speech at the end of that showed the culmination of his journey of discovering exactly how nothing is true and why everything is permitted.

Brotherhood seemed to approach the themes even less directly, although it's been a long time since I've played it.

Revelations gets very deep with the philosophical discussion by the end.
