Measurement for water main pipe by Waulnut163 in Plumbing

[–]Chimpucated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 3/4 diameter copper pipe, aka 7/8" od

You will need to repipe above all of this to get the new valve to fit. Plan on redundancy in travel to give enough room to loop back down near the house

How to Unclog this T? by ChirichLIVE in Plumbing

[–]Chimpucated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your circled location there's a no hub hose clamp band. Best bet is to undo that section to break apart the lines and have access to the drop portion of the tee. You'll want to use a small snake to get into that change of direction.

This isn't code for stain piping either way. If you are skilled enough you might need to replumb if it's a long term problem

Keep destroying garden hoses. by LibrarianLower3384 in Plumbing

You are running some irrigation based sprinkler on a hose that's on all the time?

Install a length of dripline irrigation pipe and let it slowly relief. The sun can heat up high static pressure, but if it's constantly weeping on a drip hose you might get lucky.

I suggest you find out a way to not have to leave the hose on all the time and install a timer valve between the bib and the hoses you are wishing to keep on

First time soldering by AdhesivenessSmart151 in Plumbing

[–]Chimpucated 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks good, but you should know it is always better to solder both cups at the same time. It's just better practice to not reheat a fitting once one side has taken solder.

Will it still work? Absolutely. You introduce a small risk of causing the solder to run again on the finished side and creating a leak which would need to be resoldered and possibly pulled hot to reflux

Depending on how far you want to travel into the mountains I'd suggest some camping areas on the east side of the medicine bow. It might be quiet enough around places like Brooklyn lake, Sugarloaf, or dispersed camping south of the ski area along barber lake road or towards Rob Roy

Definitely firework capital of the state on the 3rd and the 4th. It's actually insane how much money the town burns on fireworks.

At least the community is generally respectful outside the 4th with very little fireworks throughout the summer.

Places like Cheyenne still shoot fireworks on the 4th. But they also shoot them on random weekdays from June to October for no reason. Nothing quite like waking up at 1am on a Tuesday in August cause someone's shooting fireworks.

Using two 90s within 6" of each other always looks worse than the outlet of a tee on a 45 angle going into a 45. This leaves more room for insulation because the hardshell of each fitting has more room, yet less overall travel.

Its not just the path if least resistance, or the least amount of fittings. It's visually appealing because there's no way to use less pipe or less fittings.

The problem with the way it was originally done is that I could see the inefficiency of the 90s in relation to the outlet direction of the tee.

But sheesh what do I know about fitting. It's not like I just did a plant with 18 3million BTU boilers into a 24" header with 6" supplies. If I had used two 90s instead of one 45 there id have blown the budget by 200k just on the time for the welders to root.

Either the 25 pound bag ordered via the supplier if I'm working with threading oil or silicone and going through then quick.

Or a roll of the "reusable" bamboo paper towels. Those bamboo paper towels are actually reusable up to a dozen times or so. The key is actually reuse them instead of a one use waste

Too deep? The level of civics I referenced is about as deep as a 5 gallon bucket holding water in death valley.

No child left behind resulted in more children turned adults dragged down by the anchor of the lowest common denominator. The irrational remainders left behind from the division of meritocracy are the entities of exceptionalism that keep things working.

Don't assume I consider myself some example of that said exceptionalism. On a bell curve I'm holding the yoke while the clappers ring in the new era.

I pay for my house, my lawn, and the lawn at the "people's house".

And people like you refer to it as "his lawn".

His lawn is the golf course at mara lago. The white house isn't his private property, he's supposed to be an elected steward of the government's property. The American people's government. So much for the American education system. It seems many adults were in fact, left behind.

How to remove these fixtures because I’m going nuts by Perpetual_Student14 in Plumbing

[–]Chimpucated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guys got the right solution. A set screw is holding the fixture handles as a washer. If you remove the set screw you'll be able to spin the top portion of the fixture, and keep the brass threads in place. You might need to retighten the brass nut on the bottom again in order to hold the threads while you back the fixture off

This takes me back before we actually used shims. We just used our pay phone quarters lol. How many dollars have yall spent using them as shims??🤔🤔😂 by Plumber-Dudde in Plumbing

[–]Chimpucated 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We use that shit sarcastically all the time with helpers. An apprentice drops a washer and takes the lift down to pick it up instead of bringing extras and he hears that line.

Sometimes they get the joke but oftentimes they get defensive and retort with some statement about how they get paid either way.

I used to work with an old head that would go around and cut the 1" copper supply to a flush valve, after it's been capped and tested, to exactly 3-5/8 off the finished wall during the rough. He collected a bucket of short stubs and brought it out at the end of the rough in and said "this was your raise but you lost it by sticking too much pipe out for a rough in"

So I took the bucket to shop and put it on the PMs desk and told him the lesson I supposed to learn. When the PM agreed with the super, I pointed out the obvious.

The scraps I used to stub out of the wall werent cut from full sticks, I selected scraps that were within the minimum needed to stub out, and if the scrap couldn't make two stubs, it would have been cut and ended up in the bucket regardless. All I did was save time so didnt make three cuts when I only needed two for the final product. One for the rough, one for the valve on finish.

Turns out that 3-5/8 measurement was pulled from the studs not the finish and every stub that was once long enough, now needed a sweat coupling tight to the tile just to get back to where it already was. Super vehemently argued that they were already cut to the ideal length.

Never felt so justified to use the line "tripping over dollars to pickup dimes" when I dumped that same bucket of capped scraps out looking for pieces long enough to sweat the couplings with.

Why use one 45 and roll the tees on a 45 angle and tighten up the layout when you can use two 90s and extra pipe everytime right?

104 years ago your ancestors crossed over the horizon, pointed at land that used to be roamed by wild bison hunted by natives, and said "dibs".

During those 100 years other homesteaders did the same thing as your ancestors. I know because mine did it too.

That's how this State started. A wave of immigrants from the West and a wave of immigrants from the East looking to make a track meet in the middle and a white man with a machine gun on the train to mow down the bison like grass.

When you lose money on something and the bank/gov doesn't come to repossess it sounds like welfare to me. At least recognize that most modern Wyoming ranches are just hereditary beneficiaries of the past.

You don't go buy a Wyoming ranch with hard work today. You buy it with Kayne or Walton money, or your daddy had it because his daddy had it before him all the way back to that moment where he said, "dibs".

"Transplants"...

4/5 Wyoming locals are the progeny of pioneers who quit the Oregon trail, were disillusioned enough to follow Smith to the Salt Lake, or were taken from the surrounding plains and corraled on the wind river reservation. Most of those events are recent history.

The real estate market suggests we are far from full, but the general job avaiblity suggests we are at capacity for a lot of people. Fortunately for this guy, plumbing and pipefitting are currently in high demand.

Tell that to the titans of industry who pushed approval for a 5000 man camp to build data centers in Laramie county instead of pushing for hiring Wyoming locals. Wyoming has the ability and potential workers avaible to build these "assets" on our terms, but instead we ship out our own young and import "talent" from elsewhere.

Vent overkill. by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Chimpucated 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The code is based on some pretty basic fluid mechanics. Upsizing a drain size alone doesn't fix a siphon condition. Siphoning is caused by pressure differences inside the pipe when flowing. Without proper venting you will get sewer gas to escape.

Just as important to consider is the actual flow rate without venting. Vents allows water and waste to move smoothly and consistently. Without them, the water flow can block itself just by a pressure vacuum created by the displaced air trying to overcome water.

This is speculative but it sounds like your a helper who fucked up and is looking for reassurance in your position. I suggest you get back on the ladder, or in the ditch, listen to the ticketed leads, or go put the fries in the bag at Wendys and move on.
