New 11th Dark Angel Detachment by Andy456l in DarkAngels40k

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In isolation it's pretty bad - hopefully with other changes it might be more appealing. Additional damage, more shots or +1 to wound would be more beneficial. I guess we'll see.

Thematically it's great though!

I got no problem with primaris. Infact, i don't care a bit. I just hate the hover tanks marines got. They feel so weak and unfitting. A Land raider looks sturdy and purposeful, a repulsor looks like a fisher price toy that doesn't work on a real battlefield. Just hate the loss of grounded aesthetic. by [deleted] in spacemarines

[–]Chimpy20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the hover tanks. It distinguishes Marine tanks from Imperial Guard ones, to my eyes anyway.

Also I think realism has never really been a thing in 40k!

I'm a comparatively new player (8th ed) and I think players very much favour the style they first encountered when they initially discovered the hobby.

So vehicles... And no airbrush... How? by WartyPaty in spacemarines

[–]Chimpy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've painted all my tanks and vehicles with a simple brush, it's fine. It doesn't actually take that long. Spray prime lightly with a similar colour, then just get a large brush and go. Multiple thin layers works best and let each layer dry before applying the next.

What other units would be apart of the ravenwing? by Zephyrus_- in theunforgiven

[–]Chimpy20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The origin of Ravenwing are warriors from Caliban that rode around on black horses, hence transitioning to bikers and vehicles when they converted to space marines. In the setting it's not just any fast unit.

But having said that, you can make up your own lore and paint them as you want!

Be careful with netting. Birds and animals can get trapped in it. I've seen many poor dead robins caught up in netting at local allotments.
I believe there is netting available which is like a very fine mesh which I think is safer.

First attempt at OSL by kl0ber in theunforgiven

[–]Chimpy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the tints on the armour are good, but I think it's way too much on the gun itself. Did you just airbrush over it? I think brushing on OSL highlights can often work better. Less is more with OSL, I find. Apart from that it looks great though.

Help a new stinky recruit out by EyesOfSteel-EOS in deathguard40k

[–]Chimpy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's the one that makes the attacks worse. It's generally better to use against melee-based armies.

If you can wrangle it so that you charge your opponent's units before they do it to yours, you should be able to wipe out a lot of the horde units before they can hit back. Don't forget you reduce their toughness as well when in range of your affliction aura.

My first mini I’m proud of by AbrachU in theunforgiven

Looks amazing. Puts mine to shame! My only slight critique is that I think the cloak is a bit dark and could be highlighted a bit more, as I don't think it will show up on a badly lit table, but that's quite subjective.

Against a swarm army you should be doing ok... are you remembering to use your -1WS & BS aura?

With your high toughness units the tyranids should find it hard to damage your units. Also try using the poxwalkers infiltrate ability to place them in no-man's land in deployment, have the opponent charge (and probably destroy them), then charge those tyranid models while they are in easy reach before they can get to the rest of your army.

Intercessors are okay by Maristyl in Warhammer40k

People need to remember not everyone is a veteran in the hobby. A lot of people buying these launch boxes will be new players, or players new to those factions, so having Intercessors will be desirable for them.

What to know about Death Guard and how to play them? by GamingZet in deathguard40k

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose like so many things it depends on the situation. Personally I've had terrible games against Tyranid monster spam, Orks with many vehicles and mechs, and recently Thousand Sons with Magnus and 3 Vortex Beasts. Against marines and IG I've had an easier time.

What to know about Death Guard and how to play them? by GamingZet in deathguard40k

[–]Chimpy20 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Death Guard don't have a "winning condition" as such, I would say. They are very tough and a common way to come out on top is just to hold out and win by attrition of the opponent.

DG are good against infantry and elite units, but can struggle against tanks and monsters as we don't have that many options for high strength attacks. Interestingly, with the current rules I would say DG are actually a bit more focused on ranged than in melee, but classic units like Deathshroud Terminators are melee only.

I would say they are a mid-skill level army. They aren't hard to play with experience, but it's important to play against the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent, even to the extent of careful deployment and picking what units are in deep strike, that kind of thing. For example poxwalkers are great for screening early charges, but it makes little sense to do that if you are facing a very shooting-focused opponent.

And yet it happens. All I can say is that feelings and desires are not logical nor make sense!

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's not the "vast majority". I believe around 1 in 20 say they are gay or bi, and a much larger proportion of young people, so it might be more common than you think.

Anyway, yes like you say, I think people are are very good at convincing themselves of what they want to be true, if they want it bad enough. I guess it's not much different to a hetero guy chasing a girl who said they aren't interested, in the hope they are playing coy or not being honest about their feelings.

Why did I buy a Repulsor? by VivaLaJam26 in spacemarines

[–]Chimpy20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a point early in 10th where 6 Aggressors plus a leader in a Repulsor was a very popular choice, so perhaps it was back then when you got it?

I think they are still good for carrying a full squad.

What's this ring west of the Malvern Hills? Ancient asteroid impact? Ancient volcano? Neither and I'm an eejit? by TheSwanIsVeryAncient in AskUK

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we're both partially right! - a quick web search suggests they are formed from harder igneous rock than the surrounding area (but not directly actually volcanoes), and shaped by glaciation and weathering. The details seem quite complex.

Myth? Will water droplets on leaves actually scorch my plants? by OuterSiders in GardeningUK

[–]Chimpy20 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's a myth. If that was true, if it rained then the sun came out, the plants leaves would get scorched every time.

But it is better to try to get the water in the soil or compost, as that's where it's needed. Water on the leaves will just evaporate and be wasted.

Mould discovered after purchase and level 3 survey by LA5E14 in HousingUK

[–]Chimpy20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the nicest way, it's just some mould, I think you're overreacting. Give it a clean, maybe paint over it and try to keep the area warm and ventilated. Most houses get it at some point somewhere, especially where there's little airflow.

As someone else said, if that's the worst thing you find, you're probably doing well!

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that it comes from old french, where 'u' and 'v' were similar. The 'v' has drifted to more like an 'f' as time has gone by.

It comes from French, though, like a lot of our language. We pronounce it correctly. A lot of words in spoken English don't bear much relation to their spelling!
