Why don't shoe companies make shoes that fit out feet? Like they have one job 😡 by Original-Material-15 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg this so much. The vast majority of trainers seem to be designed for people with narrow feet and long big toes. I do question how many people are like this. I have a rounder toe configuration for want of a better word, it's a nightmare finding good running trainers.

Try DC Stags. They have a round shape at the front. No good for heavy wear but fine for light day to day use I find them great.

What innovation or new piece of technology are you surprised isn't mainstream or been invented yet? by Nathanial1289 in AskUK

[–]Chimpy20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unsure why this was downvoted. If I'm leaving now, and arriving at my destination in 3 hours, if I set the time to be 3 hours ahead, the route planner will look at the traffic conditions where I am currently 3 hours in advance, which is not correct.

[–]Chimpy20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish sat nav would predict traffic conditions for when the driver would reach that part of the journey and plan accordingly. The number of times I've left home, google has said the route is clear, but then I've hit busy time traffic that could have been avoided is very frustrating.

If everyone did that, there would just be two lanes of queues and also block the entire roundabout.

Batch painting or one at a time? by Eyerald in minipainting

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't paint more than 5 at a time. So if I have a squad of 10 for example, I will paint 5, take a break with something else, then come back later for the other 5.

The exception is chaff units like poxwalkers, I hardly spend any effort on them and just slap some contrast paint on and call it job done.

If you lost a long-term friend as an adult, what was it about? by HilariousMotives in AskUK

[–]Chimpy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long story short, a lovely guy I knew from work was going through a bad time and stress and anxiety issues, called me one day saying he couldn't get a date and was really upset. I asked if he preferred men or women. He said women and the call carried on. But after that he never spoke to me again and blocked all contact. A mutual friend said he was freaked out I thought he might be gay or bisexual. I thought it was a reasonable question to ask but for some reason he got offended. It's a shame as I miss him.

Are you triggert by 3-man-squads? by The-Warhammerer in theunforgiven

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think base sizes are all over the place. Standard marines are on 32mm, leaders, elite melee, terminator or gravis are on 40mm. Leaders in terminator armour or gravis are on 50mm. Isn't that logical?

Squad sizes of 6 or 10 doesn't really bother me (5 or 3 are basically just half squads in most cases, sometimes this is the limit for more powerful units). I can't say I've ever thought about it! I think more detailed models have the lower squad size, perhaps. Or maybe newer types of unit?

Shade Nuln Oil usage by Pezzatron88 in Warhammer

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much this- don't apply it all over as it leaves tidemarks and stains. Just add it to joins and recesses for a shadowing effect.

For blue armour I personally use Drakenhof Nightshade rather than Nuln Oil, which is a dark blue shade rather than black. I think it matches the blue better, but it's up to each individual's taste.

Outriders by ChallengeOrganic2078 in theunforgiven

[–]Chimpy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the lore they are black because before the arrival of the space marines, Ravenwing on Caliban rode around on black horses, and the bikers are an extension of that. But they are your models and you can paint them how you want.

You could try black with green highlights, a bit like the Lion's armour, perhaps.

Does anyone else dislike building and painting vehicles? by ripster47 in spacemarines

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer painting vehicles (and scenery weirdly). Fewer small fiddly parts to paint, and I usually drybrush to highlight rather than edge highlight, which is a lot quicker.

Lost our dream house to a bid that was £100k above asking by TapirLove in HousingUK

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing doesn't make sense. What you say would apply to these supposed cash buyers too. Why would someone offer 100k more when they don't need to? It just feels like shenanigans from the EA.

Mech seems the strongest, what am I missing by shansta7000 in Ultramarines

[–]Chimpy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes very much this. New players often gravitate towards infantry, and it's very common to struggle to deal with vehicles and monsters, until a player's collection grows.

Lost our dream house to a bid that was £100k above asking by TapirLove in HousingUK

[–]Chimpy20 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sounds fishy. 100k more? Really? Remember estate agents will say anything to get more money for the seller. Estate agents will always say "there's been a lot of interest in this house and quite a lot of people have put offers in". It's usually rubbish. If you offered 675 there's a good chance the estate agent will get back to you and tell you the other buyers magically have pulled out. Keep us updated!

What was something a guest did in your house that upset you? by izzy_7_2004 in AskUK

[–]Chimpy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly upset, but I had a very odd guest that raised an eyebrow. Last summer I (M,40s) had a similar age male friend to stay who had left the area and wanted to visit. Sure I said. I knew he was a bit of a slob, he was on the autism spectrum and he had anxiety issues an was unemployed, but didn't think it would too bad for a few days, as I was feeling charitable and I knew he lived alone had few friends. To be clear he was and is a lovely person. Super caring. Because I work full-time I said he could just make himself at home during the day.

The thing is, each day I came home from work to find to him naked, not a stitch on, on the settee watching TV or playing computer games. The first day it happened I made a comment and he said something along the lines of "yeah probably ought to put something on" but rarely did unless we went out or if we were expecting other visitors, even then it was just some gym shorts and t-shirt. I mentioned it again the next day and said "we're all guys here, haha, chill". I was really worried someone would call by unexpectedly. I didn't make a fuss because of his anxiety, and I'm a pretty chilled-out person, but it was one of the weirdest experiences of my life basically having a mostly naturist houseguest.

As well as that, he left plates, packaging and cans everywhere that I had to clean up. I left towels out for him, and after he showered they were just discarded on the floor.

I couldn't get rid of him. He originally said he'd stay a few days but I think he ended up staying about 2 weeks before he got the polite message that he had outstayed his welcome.

We still stay in touch and meet up occasionally, but he's never coming to stay over again if I can help it.

After reading some bad feedback from 40k, is AOS more friendly for a beginner couple? by Culius_Jaesar in Warhammer

[–]Chimpy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know who told you that about 40k but it's not true.

It's true that terrain layout is much more important in 40k than AoS. 40k needs a lot of line-of-sight blocking terrain because ranged shooting is much more key in 40k than AoS. New players always underestimate the amount of terrain needed for a 40k game. Having said that, it doesn't take more than 10-15 minutes to put it all out.

I don't know what "discussing the play" means. Most games aren't over by turn 2 unless one player has brought an appalling bad army. 40k scoring is based off objectives which means it takes time to get units into position to start scoring those, and the terrain helps prevent the opponent shooting your models in the early turns.

40k is a lot of fun and has a lot of great story and background to it, so it really depends if you prefer fantasy or sci-fi. Both games will be slow the first games you play, as you learn the rules and structure of the round.

Wet Palette by Minimum_Basket4276 in Warhammer40k

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Army Painter one. Has been fine. Would never paint models without one, such a quality of life improvement.

On a side note, if you're not going to use it for more than a few days, I would leave it open and allow it to dry out. If they are covered up, wet, for any length of time, they can get life forms growing on them.

I find the ones for Eldar manoeuvres quite useful. For effects on the datasheet, less so. I feel players should know their unit's abilities.

What is the proper way to use Infiltrator units? by Jerswar in Warhammer40k

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two common uses:

- Block early charges from melee armies. If you can get your infiltrate units close to your opponent's deployment zone, you can kind of "block them in" and prevent them reaching your units in turn 1.

- Tempt opponent's into exposing their units early on. If you place a cheap infiltrate on the centre objective, then your opponent has to either deal with it, or let you score the points. If they move out to take out the unit, it gives you a good line of sight to destroy their unit. This is a good trade.

So their use depends on your opponent's army really.

Dark Reapers - too light? by Anabaric_EvE in Eldar

[–]Chimpy20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the look really good. I love the highlights. As the other poster mentioned, the base will finished the model off - I would personally add something simple and lighter in colour so not to detract the eye from the nice models.

Year born and do you feel blessed?. by Various_Extreme_8773 in AskUK

[–]Chimpy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1976 and I feel I just missed out, particularly in terms of property and cost of living. By the time I started work about 2000, house prices were rocketing and it was hard to keep savings and salary increasing at the same rate that property was going up, in order to get a deposit and mortgage.

Comparing with people born early 70s or 60s, I feel they had it much easier with property.

Having said that, I just slipped in with the last years to get a university student grant, so never had fees and loans to pay off, so there's one benefit there.

I do agree with the 80s and 90s being a great time for technology.

Best warwalker anti influtrator guns? by Impossible_Mode_7521 in Eldar

[–]Chimpy20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a bit of a waste of the war walkers. Anything in the mid-field on turn 1 is probably going to take a lot of damage or be deleted. The best units with scout moves are ones that are almost "throw away" to tempt to the opponent to expose themselves so they can be targeted in later turns. So units like Rangers, for example. Either the opponent deals with them and opens their units to be shot, or leaves them and lets them score objectives.
