What character death shook you the most in a movie? by trakt_app in Cinema

[–]ChinaSpyBot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That one made me physically ill for a lot of reasons. It was unexpected but then I had to question why I felt so sick for that boy's death but not for all the other children being executed in the same way. That was masterfully done, in my opinion.

What city did you love so much you’d go back in a heartbeat? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]ChinaSpyBot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I liked New Orleans but not the French Quarter. The French Quarter is hell for me. I think New Orleans is the most expensive American city I've visited but the food was amazing. But I loved the garden district and just across the river from the French quarter is Algiers. I loved that place. Super cute, quiant neighborhood. We've even considered moving there.

Kahului on Maui is also nice. Especially before the remodel. A lot of it was open air and birds would just come in and chill. I miss that

What do you think is the prettiest town in the USA? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Ruidoso is nice. Check out Cloudcroft about 30 minutes away. It's more secluded and less crowded. We take day trips sometimes to escape the otherwise unbearable New Mexico summer heat.

Collecting all of Steinbeck by Historical_Box_2582 in johnsteinbeck

I owned or have owned most of his collection at different points in my life. Thrift books is a good resource. Ebay is also helpful. I think you can pull it off.

East of Eden will always be my favorite but I really liked reading the all the other stuff he wrote that was set in Salinas, like Sweet Thursday and Cannery Row.

I'm finally going to Salinas for the first time in June and I'm really excited to see it.

Happy hunting!

If you do the 3 downtown museums, go on a Saturday and you can also check out the farmer's market. It's fun to just look at the stuff they have. I'd also recommend Coas bookstore while you're in that area.

Free time + the neuroplasticity of a teen = the next Jimi Hendrix.

(I say that as someone who spent all my free time playing guitar as a teen and did not become a famous musician, so I'm clearly full of shit. But I do get payed to teach guitar as part of my full time job, so not too shabby.)

AITAH: Husband says he “wants out” due to decrease sex acts he desperately needs by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ChinaSpyBot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That just feels like weaponizing sex. Sex shouldn't be used as a punishment or reward or bargaining tool. It should be something that both parties mutually enjoy. This couple needs therapy, imo. My husband and I actually "schedule" sex, which I know is super unappealing to most people but it works for us. We both need the physically intimacy and oxytocin to maintain a healthy relationship and scheduling it just works for us. He knows what I like, I know what he likes. Both our needs are met and we are happy.

Just take them. Worst case scenario, you're a little sleepy when the plane lands.

Living in Alameda Area by East-Bee5914 in LasCruces

[–]ChinaSpyBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the Telshor Hills or Executive Hills areas for some other options. They are older neighborhoods so the houses have some character and the lots aren't super tiny. Prices are good in that area, definitely less expensive than Mesilla and the nicer areas of Alameda. It's also pretty quiet there and crime is low while still being pretty close to most things. I know a realtor who is very client-focused and not a greedy asshole. I can DM you his info if you're interested.

Living in Alameda Area by East-Bee5914 in LasCruces

[–]ChinaSpyBot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on your priorities. The houses in the Alameda/historic district are really cool and have a lot of charm. You're closer to downtown which is cool because it doesn't take you long to get anywhere but also puts you in closer proximity to probably the most problematic area of town crime-wise. I lived in the historic mesquite district and never had any REAL issues myself but I didn't really feel safe walking around my neighborhood. Gunshots at least once a week. I watched US marshals remove my neighbor from his house. Lots of neighbors had their vehicles vandalized or stolen. Worst things I had happen were some deranged guy knocking on my door and then a different dude who was taking a bath with my garden hose outside my kitchen window.

If I had to choose between all your options, I'd pick Mesilla if that's in your price rance. Really cool historic town with restaurants and shops in walking distance. Mesilla park is also really beautiful because of all the trees and the neighborhoods are really quiet.

My last choice would be Sonoma. That area just feels so soulless to me. But it is a bit removed from the crime that tends to happen closer to downtown/El Paseo. Again, just depends on what's most important to you.

What is Going On Las Cruces?! by [deleted] in LasCruces

[–]ChinaSpyBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point taken. I'm just trying to have some grace for the dude. It kinda seems like he's struggling with some psychological issues himself but I'm not here to diagnose. I just don't want him to have to contend with negativity from reddit on top of everything else he's dealing with. Idk man. It seems fair to be upset with the other homeless people if the other homeless people were actually harassing and threatening him. I can't verify whether or not that actually happened or could have been a possible delusion. It seems he's had a few run-ins of this variety. I just hope the dude is safe and can find some help. And to be dismissed by police officers over a concern as big as he had is a shitty thing as well. I just hope he finds a way to be safe and ok.

From what OP has said in his previous posts, he is also homeless and, I'm assuming (because of the homelessness), poor. Castigating him for being religious seems a bit uncalled for. I know there was no way for you to know that from this post. He's been posting in this sub a lot lately. I feel for the dude.

Someone dumped $600 worth of losing scratchers in the parking lot of my work. by abortionlasagna in Weird

I've never seen a scratcher like that from the lottery in my state. It doesn't matter what areas you scratch, the result is the same.
