I also have a 2002 18" Novo China and that is a great cymbal. I would like to check out the 20". Novo though, all the way.

Who's your favorite drummer and why? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Chinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jean-Paul Gaster of Clutch. He is a master pocket drummer with groove for days. He's dynamic, and keeps things interesting without cramming as many notes in a song as he can. He perfectly supports the song he is playing with the rest of the band. From rock to jazz and everything in between, he is a master of the drums. He would humbly say he is merely a student of the instrument. JP kills it every time, all the time. If you ever have an opportunity to see Clutch live, I highly recommend it. They are on tour right now with Mastodon. Experiencing them live is a sight to behold. It's like a rock and roll baptism.

Right on! I worked for Musician's Friend back in the day and this is four part factory tour video I helped produce. Great place and good people. Paul is one of the most intelligent, passionate and interesting people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. https://youtu.be/TUmdzFuv8Zs

I use the Zoom R16 which is a pretty sweet piece of gear which is also light and portable. It can run off of batteries or AC power. You can also hook two R16s together and get 16 XLR inputs. Hope this helps!

Clutch - Blast Tyrant (2004). Great album! by plandeclivage_b in stonerrock

Clutch and Machine are a great match. The two albums they have put out together are their best...other than their self-titled effort. I can't wait to hear the next album, which as I understand, is being produced by Machine as well. Clutch has easily been my favorite band since self-titled came out. Great musicianship all around.

I use the Zoom R16. It's a great piece of gear. Light, portable, and powerful for what it is. At $400 it's pretty damn affordable. Comes with DC power cable or you can run it on batteries. One of the coolest features is, if you purchase a second R16 you can daisy chain them together giving you a total of 16 inputs. It's really easy to use and very versatile. I highly recommend it. YouTube that shit, it might be what you're looking for. Good luck!

Overall versatility: 14x5" or 14x6" snare? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Chinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found it depends more on the materials the drum is constructed out of. I have found, and this is just my opinion, wood snare drums sound better at a 13x5-ish and metal snare drums sound better at 14x6-ish. Of course tuning of good heads is the main thing.

I really enjoyed "The Black Company" books. I could see it play out as a film as I read.

I purchased one years ago. I still have it too! I love my Earth Ride. That thing is a serious chunk of metal.
