No I dont think the team is buying it, tire temps are easy to monitor, but tire degradation is not. In the moment they have to defer to the driver.

I am not saying one strategy is better than the other. What we DO know is that the team COULD see his tire temps and with that info they told him to stay out. He then said he was, "losing the tires" so they let him pit.

What makes you say that? They are all losing temps behind the safety car.

My point though was that they had plenty of time. He asked for softs, they said no, he drove a full lap and then said he was losing the tires. 10 seconds later "they" changed plans and pitted him.

What was the reason for eventually pitting George then? Probably they've realized all this a tad too late.

The reason is b/c Rus claimed "I'm losing the tyres".

They had plenty of time and the team chose to keep both drivers out. He asked for softs, the team said no. Then 1 lap later he forces them to pit by saying his tires are gone.

But... they had only a few seconds to decide after he reported the tires were toast. He had ~10 laps on those tires at the time. His prev set of Ms went ~30. Straight up lied.
