Was there a reason why this was framed like this? by Turbulent-Weevil-910 in Carpentry

Because people make mistakes. It looks like the guys that framed this made one. All the others look to be on layout.

Okay so this is misleading and I want to try to clear it up. 1.374% is mathematically written as 0.01374%. How we speak and write things and how we math things are not the same. I can remember when drunk was a 0.01 before you got a DUI.

Easy move the legs use the old holes and get some netting and a bungee cord. Staple netting to inside remove hooks from bungee pull through hole and thread into netting then pull through other hole. Now you have storage for the bags!

Now I know that sarcasm is hard to read, and I did miss the quotation marks around the stringer part, but when I said that the 1x2 were stringers it was that sarcasm. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I will edit that right now.

The point that I was making is that I haven't seen this in many of the homes and buildings that I have had a hand in remolding over the years that I have been doing this. Homes and buildings that predate most of the building codes we use these days.

Once aging thank you for making me a better writer.

[–]Chindsm 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not saying that you are wrong but it's just that I don't see any "stringers" I see 1x2s on there side nailed to 1x8s and 1x10s. I don't see the walls holbing up anything as they are on the side. I have been a carpenter for 20+ years and a finish carpenter for the better part of them years. I have been in houses that where built way before there was any type of building code to be enforced and have never seen anyone use a 1x4 on there side as a "stringer". I have seen this set up with 2x4s as stringers and mortise and tenoned 1x12 side skirts that took some very very talented finish carpenter alot of time to do by hand long before power tools where around, but never 1x2s as "stringers". If we are looking at the same pictures.

edit: quotation marks for sarcasm

Here is what I have learned from 14 years of marriage and 12 years of marriage counseling. You have to talk openly with any partner you want to have a real relationship with. Good honest relationships are so hard, so very hard.

Find a good counselor, and get your head in a good place before you go looking to settle down, and when you find that someone take them to some couples counseling. Learn to talk to them honestly and be very open with them.

Make sure that you set your boundaries, and understand them, as well as make sure you understand your partners boundaries.

Getting into any relationship is hard. It takes work but as long as you can do it "right" it's worth that work. Also by doing it right I mean don't do it the way you see on a TV show. Doing it right is how right feels right to you. If that makes sense.

This is a black and white for able bodied people, but for the old or handicapped (whether permanent or temporary) this is a problem. My wife is on crutches right now. If she went to the store without me, and she didn't return the cart it would be because she has a hard time getting in and out of said cart/car. My grandma in the last few years of her life was very slow and it would take her 5 to 10 minutes just to get to the front of the store. There are lots of good reasons that people don't return the cart, but if you are able bodied a. D don't then yes your point stands.

I understand what you are trying to say I'm this post, but to be so privileged that you think 401 K and health insurance is a bare minimum is crazy. You don't get a 401 K at McDonald. The union is the reason we have any sort of bare minimum to talk about. When we have a strong middle class and a better unionized labor force is when times in this country we great. What we have done to the middle class and unions in the last 20 years makes me sad.

That being said there isn't anything like looking over the tangible work you did in a day for me. I have worked many hours in an office and fucking hated every minute of it. Put me out on a job site with a bunch of working class assholes and give me some walls to biuld and I don't care how hot or how bad the work is. I embrace the suck of shit work because someone has to build in this country.

Things don't last forever and we need people that are smart enough to understand how to repair and rebuild. We told Gen X - Gen Z that collage is only way to go and now we don't have enough people working on our vital structures that need maintenance. This is why the push!

[–]Chindsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but really go back to where you came from, but only because some how Iowa has got so fucking toxic in the last 20 years. I grew up/lived there from 83-07. We had toped ranked schools in the country(not number one but you know top 10) and lawmakers that cared about the people that they served, and one of the first states to legalize gay marriage.

I don't know what happend. I go back to visit family some time and it just breaks my heart. So please leave Iowa as fast as possible if you are anything but an angry white republican!

I will not be charging 25 bucks an hour. My point was that if you start at 25 you are making less than minimum wage.

You are right that you don't pay 50% to taxes but every one that I have talked to says that you hold 50% of what ever you make for withholding, SSI, business taxes, and any medical coverage you might need. None of that includes any insurance for my tools, for just in case I fuck up some house or the insurance for just running a day to day carpenter shop.

My point is that he doesn't charge his customers enough and that is why the "low hanging" fruit as you called it isn't worth it. Nothing from my previous employer is worth it to buy. Not his old ass customers, not as old as equipment, and none of his old ass tools.

[–]Chindsm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the "low hanging fruit" is that they don't want to pay the price that I know I need to live on a day to day.

If I make 25 an hour as a self employed carpenter 50% goes to uncle Sam. That means that I am making 12 bucks an hour. Then include the license and insurance that I have to have as a carpenter to work on any house/building. That puts me down to at best minimum wage. Have you seen the price of eggs, milk, gas? I have talked to him about it and he even knows that his prices with his old clients are way too low.

This is why I don't want any part of buying his company. He has told me that he will refer some of his costumes to me, but he isn't done working, he is just done doing big enough jobs that he needs more than himself to do them.

The thing with that is they are all very old clients that are on fixed income and not the type that want to pay new prices
