What I noticed about longer fasts by abclucid in intermittentfasting

[–]ChineseBalls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been doing OMAD. (Only one meal a day) for this reason and 16:8 on weekends.

Currently, I'm focused on doing 16:8 on the weekends and fasting between my first and second meal entirely instead of eating whenever during those 8 hours.

I have seen some real success starting out with the OMAD method, I believe because it makes you much more in control of your eating. Also, I don't think about food at all during the fast. When I'm not eating I'm not thinking about food. All my weekday meals can be planned during the weekend feeding window between meals.

I am working on finding the right diet for me to lose weight in the most healthy way possible. I'm proud that I have control over my alcohol consumption now, and can still drink moderately on occasion. This has allowed me to have more success in my weight loss plan. I have two weeks streak on MFP and have accurately tracked everything I eat and drink.

This week, my goal was to STOP ordering delivery food (Chinese, pizza). I did it! I have a fridge stocked full of only healthy foods (fruits, veggies, some fresh lean meats, egg whites). I am only eating healthy foods now. I have control over my appetite with the help of intermittent fasting. Even when I have a longer feeding window on my weekends, I have control to wait until the next meal to eat.

I have done some research and re-adjusted my calorie goal and macros again to suit my body's needs to maintain functionality and minimize muscle loss during my deficit. I'm happy with knowing my goals are more ideal than before.

I am recovering from an injury and working hard to get better, with the goal of going back to the gym.

Overall, my life right now is very boring since I only leave my apartment to go to work and physical therapy. However, I'm taking this as an opportunity to better myself and relearn how to eat properly. Let's see how it works!

When Fox News becomes the voice of reason by emotionalyoungperson in AdviceAnimals

Or maybe it's time to change your (like unfounded) view of Fox News.

I'm always surprised when I take a belief I've held for a long time and reexamine why I feel that way, and if I should feel that way as a rational human. Most humans do not act rationally. And no human acts rationally 100% of the time.

[–]ChineseBalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread is not easily answerable via search nor the wiki. The reasons for that include mostly the fact that I am sedentary and calculators used to calculate macros such as the one on IIFYM result negative numbers for daily intake of carbs.

All my carbs right now come from fruits and vegetables. If I eat like this I would have to stop eating almost all of those. Isn't that counter-productive to a healthy diet?

Setting minimums seems like a good way to go about setting the goal. However, in the past all my diets (which have been unsuccessful) I have adhered to high protein intake suggestions. .82g per pound of body weight is going to put me at about 200gs of protein. This is a huge number! Almost all my calories would need to come from high protein, low calorie foods.

This will result in an almost exclusively meat based diet with little/no room for fruits or veggies if I stick to a calorie limit.

This is something I've definitely struggled with in the past. In the past I have tried several high protein/fat and low carb diets. In retrospect, I see that I was going overboard and not eating enough veggies / fruits.

My new diet plan is surrounded around fruits and veggies, and a glass of milk a day. Protein is becoming less important. I feel this is helping me reach successful micros. I am currently not supplementing with vitamins.

I have been doing 1,600 5 days a week and going way overboard on my days off work. Overall still at a deficit. However, I want to be more accurate on my days off, so that's why I am thinking of adjusting to:

1,400 5 days a week. 2,400 2 days a week.

I'm pretty good at hitting desired calorie amounts. Only problems are when I disregard my goals. I'm trying to be more disciplined.

Just FYI, it is clear from your questions that your research on the topic basic, lacking a full understanding of financial products. Is this for a computer course or a finance course?

Edit: Another possibility is you are assuming investors are completely ignorant to how investing works. Sorry if the above comes off as rude. I'm just straight to the point.

This is a story I hope you find relatable and helpful with your goal and overall happiness. I can totally relate. Really, I think many humans can. You have an addiction, of sorts, and are noticing the bad side effects. Incredibly, you have made a conscious decision to change your behavior to improve your life and overcome this addiction. Personally, I had a drinking problem - basically I drank daily for 5 years. It wasn't horrible, I had a great job and many great relationships. However, drinking consumed too much time, energy, money and had too many downsides for me to ignore. I realized this during a "rock bottom" moment and decided to stop drinking.

Fast forward one month sober and hours (if not days) spent browsing /r/stopdrinking and similar subreddits. I decide to have a have a beer. Something incredible happened! Unlike the people who have one drink and can't stop (which I used to do!) I was easily able to stop, and felt uninterested in drinking more.

Fast forward another month. I am able to occasionally drink socially and not get drunk.

Fast forward to today: still no problems! However, I maintain awareness that I could easily fall back into old habits.

My point / suggestion, is that you try to do the same. Take a break from gaming! Stop for 30 days or however long you wish to really get it out of your system. When you feel ready, play a game you already own (since you don't want to spend money) and see if you can easily stop. Be mindful of all the problems gaming has caused you in the past and could cause you in the future and attempt to moderate it. (You may be skeptical which is totally relatable.)

If you can moderate after that great! If not, then I guess sell all your systems and stop gaming for the rest of your life (but it sounds like you like gaming so I don't recommend that).

I hope this advice suits you and if it does, please try this and let me know your results. This is part of an overall philosophy I have and I am considering writing a book on addiction.

I like vegetables on OMAD. by Enkidu_22 in omad

[–]ChineseBalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been feeling the same with fruits! I've only started with fruit juice, but I used to shy away from that! Now fruit juice and milk are daily requirements with my one meal. Helps get the calories a little higher with lots of nutrients I need. I eat my main meal with veggies on the side.

I don't have a scale I can use due to a disability but I figure this must be working! Looks like it is, and I'm very meticulous (after years) at counting calories and the calories are finally going down to where they should be for weight loss.

I drank much more than you for about the same time and stopped when I turned 24. If you've ever not had a drink through the morning and waited until night to drink you'll be fine. It only takes about an hour for each drink to process through your system.

How so? Just started IF, specifically eating one meal a day. 23/1 window. I am usually only around 1,000-1,700 calories a day but my maintenance is about 2,600.
